Sage entered the doctor's ward quietly, quite frankly terrified of going back into the room with Mari. But he had to...and he wasn't going to just abandon her. But, he wasn't sure how she'd respond, and he wasn't sure she liked him very much right now. He sighed slightly, pushing the curtain to the side and slipping into the room, almost hoping she was asleep. He noted the baby resting happily in her arms and relaxed slightly, though he heasitated at the side of the bed before turning to slide down into the chair, just looking rather defeated by everything that was going on.

Mari eventually drifted off, the child still resting on her chest. Her stomach was throbbing from when she'd crawled after him, and she was pretty sure that she was bleeding, but she was at a point where she really just didn't care. There was no point wasting the doctor's time if she was just going to hurt herself again. She woke up for a moment when Sage came in, and she glanced to him before rolling onto her side, holding the child a bit tighter as he slept, closing her eyes a tiny bit. She didn't want to look at him... her heart was racing, and she was almost shaking. She was just... scared. She wasn't sure what of... not Sage, right?

Sage noticed the girl glance in his direction and turn away, which admittedly made his chest feel like it was constricting. He felt like he couldn't breathe....his heart was racing and his head was suddenly spinning, and he practically collapsed backwards into the chair. Maybe he'd made a mistake with all this...falling I'm love again. Giving someone his...well, he'd given her everything. He'd poured himself out for the girl, laid himself bare for her, whatever you wanted to call it. And now...what? Nothing before had ever lasted this long, and she'd always made sure to tell him what was wrong. But not now. Now, she'd turned her back to him the moment he entered the room, and he couldn't even pick up Silas to console himself, because she'd taken him too. Could he loose them both? Oh, how he hoped not. But right now, that seemed likely.

Mari sat quietly, gently stroking the childs hair as he slept, really just using him to keep herself stable. Her heart was pounding so fast, and all she wanted to was break down and fall into Sage's arms... but she didn't think he would let her. She was quiet for a while, hoping and praying he'd say something to her. He wasn't going to make her say something first, not after he left like that, was he? He couldn't say something so... so... well, it was awful, and expect her to feel brave enough to talk to him first. He made her happy. She hated that even for a moment she made him feel otherwise. But she was, frankly terrified to talk to him. What if she said something wrong, and upset him more? She hated it. She was scared to look at him for fear she'd just break down. She didn't want to feel like that.

Sage just stared at the girl's back for a moment, absentmindedly playing with the frayed edges of the bandages on his arms and wrists. He eventually just sunk down into the chair, closing his eyes painfully. She was right there...easily within his grasp, and he couldn't go to her. He'd tried to, three different times, and each time she'd turned away. He looked asleep, but he was far from it, and it admittedly was taking quite a bit of self control not to rip the bandages off of himself and open everything up again. He hated this....he hated feeling like this, yes, but he also hated that Mari was obviously uninterested in him. He heard a slight noise, and looked down to see Amber looking up at him. He scooped the cat up, tears running down his face. At least the cat was here. He didn't know how, or why, but she was here. And really, she was the only reason he hadn't scratched everything, worse than before probably. He just buried his face in her fur and curled up around her, wanting to sleep but just unable to.

Mari sat silently for... a while. She was terrified to talk, but it was becoming obvious that he wasn't going to talk first. God, that was annoying. She was terrified. She didn't want him to leave her. He said he wouldn't leave as soon as things got difficult, but things were a bit... harder now, and how come that was the first thing that came to mind? She just needed a bit of time to herself. Did she not make him happy anymore? Is that why he said that? To make her the one to leave instead of him? She didn't want to leave him. She wanted to get married, and have a life with him. Did he not want that anymore? Just a couple of days before they were out buying things for their wedding. Had this really changed things so much? "Please, I don't want you to leave me," she whispered to him, wrapping herself tighter around the baby. "You make me so happy... I just... why would even say that?" She asked with furrowed brows, her voice hitching a little bit.

Sage jerked his head up at Mari's comment, really just quite surprised at the comment. Did she really think he was giving up on her now? On them? Was that what she wanted? No...her next comment confirmed she didn't want to leave. But he just couldn't understand why. "I...no, Mari, I don't want to leave you," he murmured. "But I'm not good at this," he whispered, lowering his eyes to stroke Amber's soft fur, trying to choke down his tears as he wiped his face. "I can't do anything right....I can't protect you, I can't help you when you get hurt, and I don't.... every time I've seen you cry, it's been because of me," he trailed off with a whisper, voice breaking. "And I don't want that for you. I don't want you to always have to worry about me, be unhappy because of me." He shook his head slightly, closing his eyes painfully as tears escaped them. He wiped them away quickly, taking a moment to get himself gathered as much as possible. "I'm not worth it," he whispered. "If you'll be happier without me, I want you to take that chance before you get stuck with a husband who can't do anything right." He desperately wanted to hold on to her...and his face told her that, if only she'd turn to him.

Mari listened to him quietly, her heart just breaking the more he went in. "I don't need you to protect me," she whispered to him. "I'm not delicate, Sage. I don't need to to protect me or look after me or help me. I just need... you. You make me so happy. I'm not in a very good place because I can't do any of those things for you right now," she whispered to him. "I want to be able to protect you," she then added quietly, still not wanting to face him. She could see hear tears, the slight wobble of his breath every time he spoke. It was... horrible. She didn't want him to be so upset. She didn't want him to feel like he had to do anything. He did so much by just being there with her... more than he could ever really know. "I'm in love with you. I'll always worry... but we handle things so differently, Sage. Just because I'm not wanting you with me every single second when I'm ill doesn't mean I don't need you, or that you don't make me happy. Please don't ever think that," she told him, her voice wobbling. Baby Silas had started to shift now, wriggling to hold onto Mari and her blood stained dress. She moved him a tiny bit so that he was on the pillow, where he wouldn't covered in the slowly seeping blood. She'd pulled a few stitches when she was scrambling towards Sage earlier, and the blood just hadn't really stopped. She just sighed. "And please never say anything like that to me again. I love you and you know that... I don't know where that came from," she whispered to him after a few moments.

Sage dropped his gaze when the girl started talking, shifting slightly as he hugged Amber to his chest a bit tighter. "But I'm supposed to help you..." He started, though trailed off again as she kept going. He listened to her, eyes tearing up again the more she went on. Really, the more she talked, the heavier the tears flowed. But, he thought it was just because he was relieved she still loves him. The she still though he was enough for her. "Ok," he whispered once she was done. "I know," he added. "Sorry." He wasn't really sure what else to say to that....he wasn't really sure what had brought it all about to him either, but he was certainly glad that she'd nipped that in the bud. It definitely took a heavy load off his shoulders.

Mari sat silently for a few moments, her back still turned to him. She didn't want to look to look at him. If he was crying, she'd really just hate herself. She didn't want to see him like that. She didn't want to make him cry. Her entire body was shaking, mainly because she was terrified they'd end up in an argument... she wasn't particularly good with confrontation, and she never had been. She didn't want to argue with the man she loved, either. "And you've never made me cry. You've never made me do anything," she then added quietly. She cried when she saw him hurt himself... but that was just because she loved him and didn't want to see him in pain. She never wanted to see him hurt, not ever. But that wasn't his faults. "Sage, come here," she whispered after a few moments, pulling the sheets up a little bit so that he wouldn't see the blood.
