Sage wished he could have done something more than just cry, but that just seemed beyond his ability. He stayed like that for a while before taking a deep breath and sitting up. "You feel alright," he asked, his voice obviously raw and tired. "Need anything?" Then he realized she probably wouldn't want to talk so he sighed. "Just nod," told her gently. "Then you can rest more." She still looked drained, and he didn't want to bother her or worry her or anything else. "Silas and I are alright," he informed her, knowing she'd be worried about that.

Mari's heart just ached at the sight of her fiance crying... she didn't want to worry him. She was in pain, and so tired, but she didn't want him to be worried about her. She wondered if he'd been hurt too... was Silas okay? She could just stare at Sage, his face red and puffy from tears. She just wanted to pull him in and hold him close... but she could barely move her arms. She didn't feel alright, and she was hungry, but the idea of eating anything made her stomach churn. She shook her head a little bit, hating that she could barely say anything... hopefully, she'd be able to in the next day or so. She wanted to see little Silas, hold him, but she did know that wasn't... sensible right then.

Sage sighed slightly and nodded in response to the girls small head shake. He'd figured she wouldn't want to eat anything, and it may not be the best idea anyway, but if she was hurting then he wanted to help her if he could. He squeezed her hand and sat down next to her, on the edge of the bed, and leaned over to press a light kiss to her forehead. "Rest," he whispered, moving a bit of her hair out of her face.

Mari closed her eyes a little when he kissed her head and gave him an apologetic look... she hadn't meant to get hurt. She didn't want to worry him, or be in pain. She wanted to be able to work, and see to her baby, and talk to Sage without worrying about being in pain... she'd only been hurt like this once or twice when she was a teen... and she wouldn't wish it on anyone. She could barely move to get comfortable... so where she was laying she started to drift off again, and clearly wasn't likely to wake up in the next few hours.

Sage watched the girl fall back asleep and then readjusted the chair to lay back down in her lap. He was so, so glad she'd woken up, though he still obviously felt awful. And seeing her like this hurt, a lot. Especially since he knew he could have protected her better than he had. That was what hurt the most, he thought...he'd been shot before. He could have, should have, stepped in front of her while he'd fired back.

Mari was out for... a long time after that. Probably about two days before she kind of came to again... feeling a hell of a lot better. She still hurt, but she could move and her throat didn't feel like it would break the first time she tried to talk. There were a few crackers at her bedside, so she reached to take one, nibbling a tiny bit on them. It did hurt a little bit, the movement of her stomach as she started to digest the food, but it was... better. Sage wasn't there... he must have gone to sort the horses out, or take a walk with Silas... good, she didn't want him to be worried about her constantly. Saying that, though, she wanted to hold his hand for a while... just try and talk. But this was fine... better than it was.

Sage had pretty much stayed where he was, laying on Mari, until the doctor had shooed him out of the room to go eat. He did it because he didn't want to ignore Silas...which meant he needed energy, which meant he needed to eat. Just the thought of eating anything made his stomach roll, and he hated to be away from Mari...but he had to eat. He made something small up, and then sort of just picked at it, not really being able to force much down his throat before he almost threw it all up. He tossed the rest of the meal with a sigh, for once not even caring that he was wasting food. He heard Silas babbled quietly...the boy had been down a bit too. It was understandable, he hadn't seen his mother in days, and sage wasn't exactly being fun either. "Hi, little man," he murmured quietly, scooping up the baby. Silas had really been the only reason he'd stick this all out without doing something really stupid....and he held the baby close as he wandered back to the ward. He slipped into the room quietly, expecting Mari to be asleep, but when she wasn't, he yelped and scurried over to her worriedly.

Mari rested for about an hour before the boy scurried over. Her head ached at his noise, but smiled gently when he came over with the baby in his arms. The child looked grey... a bit lifeless. Was that her fault? She hated that it might have been. She didn't want her baby to be upset about anything. Or her fiancé. "Hey," she whispered, her voice crackling and wincing as the sound vibrated through her. She was still deathly cold, and pale, sickly looking really... but she looked better. Making any kind of sound hurt like hell, but Sage deserved to be talked to a little bit. She'd missed him... she wanted him to be alright.

Sage scurried over to her to the girl and sat down on the edge of the bed, franticly checking her over. "Are you alright," he practically squeaked. Silas cooed and reached for Mari, as soon as he saw her awake, so sage tucked the baby up against her side, and the little one curled up against her happily, looking a hundred times better.

Mari nodded softly to him when he asked if she was alright. Well, she wasn't, but she was better. She supposed that was good enough. She watched as he tucked her child into her side, a tiny smile crossing her face a little bit. Her hand moved to help prop the child up. She'd missed him... she'd already been eager to get back to him the night they'd ran into trouble. She glanced over Sage. Was he alright? Had he been hurt? What about Silas? Had he been ill at all on formula? Was he happy? We're either of them happy? All she could do was worry. "Yes," she whispered to him with a soft sigh. Her voice was just tired... but that was expected. "Are you?"
