(Hmmm...it might be nice for her to come in when they're all asleep like that, maybe. Gives her some time to hi k, especially since she's still not super fond of sage. Might be nice for them to all grow together a bit, idk) Sage didn't move for quite some time. When he did, it was to force himself up and over to feed Silas before putting him back to sleep and going back to laying half on Mari and half on the chair. He fell asleep right away again, since that was just better than being awake and seeing her like that. It hurt...he knew what getting shot was like, and it was so, so awful. But what hurt even worse was knowing he was supposed to protect her....and he'd done an awful job of it. Looking back, there were so many things he should have done that he hadn't.

(Yeah, we can definitely do that! Sorry to be so annoying as I know you're playing quite a few characters at the moment, but I'm so busy so would you possibly play her just for this bit? She's just kind of a bitch who happens to like Mari so it shouldn't be difficult lol) Mari felt the weight, which she assumed and hoped to be Sage move a little bit, which caused her heart to drop... she was still scared, but kind of glad she couldn't move... her stomach was definitely just awful. She didn't know how deep the wounds were, but they were hopefully not too awful. She wanted to wake up so she could see... see Sage and her baby, who she just wanted to hold, but it wasn't looking likely to happen in the next few moments.

(Lol I can try haha) Sage stayed that way for the next bit of time. He wasn't sure how long he stayed there...he just tried to stay asleep as much as possible, so he didn't have to wake up and feel anything. It wasn't restful sleep...just, staying numb, he supposed. Sleeping without resting. A servant had seen the commotion and had relayed the information to the queen. She had finished paperwork...well important paperwork anyway, so she decided to stop by and check in on the girl. She poked her head in the curtain and sighed when she saw Maria laying there, pale as she'd ever seen her. The boy was sprawled out, half in a chair and half on the girl, hand clasped tightly around her limp one. She pattered closer quietly and brushed a bit of hair out of the girl's face. She heard a slight movement in the crib, which was the baby waking up. She saw a half full bottle next to Sage, which she picked up and offered to the little boy...Silas, was it? He took the bottle eagerly, and she picked the lad up, rocking his back to sleep once he'd eaten. Her little one was...well, she was no longer little. And she had missed caring for a child. Besides, they both looked like they needed to rest. And, well, she didn't want Sage to wake up and see her standing there....that might seem a bit odd, and the boy did have a temper, and he was obviously not ok. If he snapped, she didn't think there was much she could do about it. So, it was best to leave him asleep.

Mari's thoughts eventually stopped when she started to fall asleep. She was blacked out, but now there was just... nothing. The cold was worse now, but she was relaxed in every feature. It was maybe four hours later when she was conscious again, though struggling to get her eyes to open. She heard the slight coo of Silas, and her heart ached for not being able to see to him... she didn't think she'd be able to do it herself for a while... especially if she had medicine running through her. (Verrrryyy short, I'm on the run and not feeling great lmao) Edited at October 5, 2023 04:01 PM by Belle

(It's all good, I have competitions tonight and all weekend so I won't be on a whole lot btw) Sage stayed that way for a while, just laying on the girls legs since the bed wasn't really big enough for two, and he didn't want to hurt her. The doctor had noticed the girl struggling to open her eyes, so he gave her a quick boost...a small shot of steroids to give her a bit of energy. It had some nutrients in it as well, since he wasn't sure she would eat quite yet, but she needed something. He left the room to let the girl be with her family if she did decide she wanted to wake up. He'd given her some meds for the pain, so he hoped she'd be alright. (Also feel better xD)

(Good luck with your comps!) Mari felt a tiny bit better after another few moments, though the readiness to open her eyes didn't come in for about another half hour. When they did, the ward lights hurt her eyes, though they finally moved about, and saw the bandages she felt her heart drop a little bit, then it began to feel it ache when she felt Sages hand in hers. She couldn't see him, because he was on her lap and she couldn't turn her head that far yet, but gave his hand a gentle squeeze with her own colder hand.

Sage was still asleep when Mari woke up, though at the squeeze he jerked awake. He blinked groggily before he saw Mari's eyes open and practically lept to wrap his arms around the girl, knocking the chair over in the process of scrambling to her. He kept it gentle, but he still felt like he couldn't wrap her up in his arms enough. He felt a sob build in the back of his throat, and he buried his face in her shoulder, but that didn't stop the hot tears from leaking from his eyes. He didn't know why he was crying....the guilt, the worry, the relief....it was probably all of it, in all honesty. But at least she was awake.

Mari's ears rang as the wooden chair hit the floor, and she had to close her eyes for a moment before the boy scrambled towards her. The slight movement when he wrapped his arms around her caused pain to shoot through her body, and while the pain meds had done something, a lot still hurt. She was fairly lucky that one of the bullets had hit a rib rather than an organ... the other had just managed to graze one, but not cause too much damage. She'd need a few days of resting to heal... hopefully, that would be all she needed. Just so that she could function alone, was all. She wanted to talk to him and tell her she was fine, but when she opened her mouth, nothing came out. She could feel the warmth of her tears, and using all her energy she moved to place a hand in his hair, just trying to comfort him the best she could.

Sage didn't really care if the girl talked or not...just swing her awake was enough for him. He just sort of sobbed harder when she put a hand in his hair, sort of feeling rather bad about the fact that she was the one who's almost died, and she was still the one trying to comfort him. Why had she agreed to marry him? He was awful at this...what was he thinking? He couldn't protect her. He couldn't do anything. It was by pure luck that she had survived this....and that was really all of it.

Mari sighed softly when the boy just sobbed harder into her. His tears were soaking through to her skin, and any effort she made to try and comfort him seemed to fail dramatically. She tried to talk, but the movement of pulling air into her lungs just made her wince. She didn't know exactly how close to dying she was... but by the sounds of things, how hard he was crying, it was fairly close. But she was still cold, still weak, and all she wanted to do was drift off again... but she had a feeling that'd just upset him more.
