Sage tried to quench his laughter, but it was obvious he was amused by the whole situation as he helped Quinn up. He felt a twinge of amusement go through him when she teased him, and he flopped down, staring at the fire while he waited for the girl. He had to admit, he felt rather useless so far....he'd really only been hurt and sick, and had almost really hurt Quinn, and had made dumb jokes. He hadn't done anything to help...and now he was laying here doing nothing again while she did all the work. His ears pricked and his head shot up when she finally came back, surprising the eager whine that tried to slip through his lips. "That's alright," he hummed, nose twitching at the scent of fresh blood. The wolf in him liked it...the human in him liked it a bit less. But even so, it didn't taste bad, and it smelled good. And, well, he was hungry.

Quinn nodded, cooking the meat before handing it to Sage. "I hope it meets your high expectations." Quinn teased, taking a small bite. Venison was her favorite meat... so she obviously liked it. After Quinn was done she leaned up against a tree and sighed, glancing at Sage. It was already getting darker, now the fire lit up the clearing around them.

Sage chuckled and shrugged, humming lightly. "It smells good," he chirped. "And really, as long as it's not burnt or chewy I don't have much standards," he admitted. Venison was good, so as long as it wasn't overcooked he could down it pretty quickly. And he did too. It was getting darker though, by the time he was done, so he curled up by the fire kind of like a dog, and huffed out a small breath. It would be good to start relaxing. But today had been fun...and she'd kissed him. Technically, he'd kissed her before, at their wedding, but that had really only been a quick peck. It was... different this time. Then he had a sudden thought....could she read part of his mind? The parts that were wolf? It was an interesting thought.

Quinn sat with her knees curled up to her chest, staring into the fire. Her cheeks were red... but that could have been from the heat. She closed her eyes and looked like She was muttering under her breath, then Sahara came over and nudged her. Quinn opened her eyes and frowned playfully at the horse. She said something to Sahara very quietly, "No playing around by fires, ain't that the rule?" Then chuckled when Sahara nodded and nudged her again.

Sage watched the girl interact with her horse before looking over to watch his own. Chaos was grazing happily, and the whole clearing just had a very peaceful and homely feeling, even though they were living in a cave. Well, the cave wasn't so bad. They had blankets and all the rest, and it was plenty big enough to live in...even the horses could fit inside. He'd found a smaller back area too, so if it was bad weather they could have pretty decent protection. Eventually, he closed his eyes and fell asleep, still curled up in front of the fire like a wolf.

Quinn sighed. She was a little unhappy because as she grew in better friendship with Sage... it was easier to catch snippets of what he was thinking. Stuff like.. 'I wonder if she knows what I'm thinking'. Quinn tried to ignore it and turn it off... but it could just be turned off and thrown out. She shifted, seeing Sage was now asleep... so she got up and sat next to him. Sahara came over and laid down behind her, so Quinn leaned against her horse and dozed off.

Sage really didn't mind if she could read his mind...in all honesty, that might be better if she could, since he was used to being alone, and certainly not being married...and he was awful at conveying his emotions properly. He sort of held everything up inside him, which wasn't always good for him, but he supposed there weren't many other options. After a bit, he woke up briefly from a nightmare, and scooted closer to Quinn, who was still asleep. He stared at the fire for hours, until dawn broke and he pretty much just passed out. His head was sort of half resting on Quinn's lap, though he didn't realize it.

Quinn woke up almost exactly as the sun started coming up. Sage had just fallen asleep. She yawned quietly, happy with both Sahara and Sage's combined body heat. She glanced down, trying to not snicker as she saw Sage just... sprawled out across the floor with his head on her leg. Maybe she could find some way to tease him about it.. in any case, she stayed still as to not awaken him. Sahara was more like a furnace than she was, so Quinn was content sitting here for a while. The fire was now just burning embers... so Quinn stared into them and thought about her past. What her mother did to her... her finding Sage.. them getting married... all the way up to this

Sage stayed flat asleep for a while, breathing softly while he rested against the girl. Eventually, he woke up enough to shift into a more comfortable position - curled up next to her, though kept his head resting on her leg. Wolves were pack animals...and he liked his creature comforts. He liked Quinn, and trusted her, so she was the poor soul that had to deal with it all. Of course, she was also his wife, but that didn't mean she necessarily liked it. But, she hadn't moved, so he was taking it. He fell back asleep then, though it was a bit lighter. He was just still really tired.

Quinn tried to get back to sleep. She glanced at Sage, who woke, shifted and fell right back asleep. A slight smile for,ed on her face as she laid her head against Sahara, falling asleep at last, content Sage was comfortable. It was getting less rare for her to fall asleep after sunrise... half because she was tired and half because Sage slept FOREVER and she was a little sick of waiting for him.
