Anya jumped a little as she heared Lizzies worried voice coming from the door. She sucked in a shallow breath before standing up and carefully guiding the girl out of the room. While they were planning to tell Lizzie that Sage wasn't doing amazingly, Anya didn't really want her seeing things while they were so... messy. It was like a murder scene in there, and Lizzie didn't need to see it. Anya took a short breath before ducking down to her hight once they were outside the room. "Your brother..." Anya paused as she tried to think of a nicer way to explain things without overly sugar coating it. "There's a lot going on right now. He's in a lot of pain, he tired and he's worried he might have some sort of infection in his lungs. He should be alright for now." Anya thought for a moment, "I was wandering if you'd like to go talk to the doctor... you remember where he stays, right? Maybe see if there's anything he can give you. Of course, if you prefer to stay with Sage then I'm more than happy to go." Anya murmured.

Lizzie frowned, thinking. "I'll go. You can help him more than I can if it comes to it." She shrugged and punched her lips together. "I don't think the doctor will listen to me though...he didn't really like us. He only helped because you threatened him." Back in the room, Sage closed his eyes tiredly. He hadn't been planning on passing out, so he tried to keep himself awake, but it was so hard and he was so tired and everything would be easier if he slept. It would be the end of him, he knew that, and the only reason he was right this so hard was Lizzie. He had heard her voice, heard the door open, and he could only assume Anya was sending her off for the doctor...he could hear them talking, though their voices swirled together, fuzzy and hard to understand. Anya gave a weary smile, "If he refuses the first time, you can go into my room... top floor, first on the right. There's a few pockets of cash lying around that were meant for Sage. You can grab one ot two of them and give them to him. He should help us out if we pay him enough." She grumbled, her brows furrowing slightly. "Quick as you can, though." She noted with a soft nod before slipping back into room. She pulled a chair from a corner and dragged it over so that it was that to the boy. He looked to feeble... it was so strange. She hadn't known him so long, but she hadn't expected to see him half dead in her home so soon. The girl huffed softly as she sat down before taking his hand so that she could feel his pulse, like she was making sure it was still there as she spoke to him, "I swear, I'm not going to forgive you if you go and die and leave Lizzie alone here." Anya tried to make a joke, though, at this point she might as well be talking to herself. Edited at August 15, 2022 06:04 PM by Belle

Lizzie nodded and took off running lightly, knowing that her speed could very well determine whether her brother lives or not. She burst into the doctor's room and breathed out an apology before trying to explain what was going on and beg him to help sage. Meanwhile, sage felt Anya's hand and heard her voice, but all he could manage was a slight twitch of his fingers, attempting to give her hand a reasurring squeeze. He didn't know how this would all turn out, but he did trust Anya and Lizzie to do all that they could.

The doctor, who had seemed to have busied himself with doing absolutely nothing, hadn't seemed to impressed with Lizzie barging on him. The man already looked drained enough. Through the girls babbling, he finally interrupted her. "I'm quite sure I've done enough for you. Have I not already stitched up your brother? Free of charge, might I add." Though, he seemed to have remembered Anyas little threat. Most of the castles workers knew that she was a pretty sweet girl... though, when she had a little more malice in her voice, it normally wasn't just a 'threat.' No... threats never worked unless you had actually had intention to carry them out. "I suppose I can come and have a look." The man grumbled, picking up a little tool kit and standing up. "Come on then, lead the way." Anya sat quiet for a long while, bouncing her leg up and down as she waited. She had barely felt his feeble attempt of movement, and really, it scared her a little bit. She found herself counting the minutes that went by, as though it would make Lizzie show up quicker. Edited at August 15, 2022 06:21 PM by Belle

Lizzie breathed a sigh of relief and sped off again, leading the doctor to the room sage and Anya were in. She ran through the doors and then closed them behind the doctor before curling up in the corner, hoping he could help. Sage was barely breathing now...His raspy jerks of breaths were only every few seconds, and were getting shallow and the lengths in between them were getting longer and longer. He opened his eyes, staring blankly at the ceiling, the light in them slowly fading. He wasn't afraid to die...but leaving Lizzie, and Anya he supposed, tore at his heart. He saw them come into the room, Liz and the doctor, and he wondered what the doctor could even do. Edited at August 15, 2022 06:26 PM by NightClan

Anya sat impatiently for a while, watching Sage fade away right in front of her. What could she do about it? She have him a small splash of water from a little glass, like she had expected it to wake him up or even just keep him conscious. Of course, she had tried shaking him a little, but was a little worried she was going to hurt him if she was even a bit to rough. The sound of Lizzie and the 'good' doctor padding along the walls brought a slight look of relief to her face. It meant she wouldn't be alone while he was like this. She let out a soft sigh before hopping out of her chair and cleaning things up a little, mainly so things weren't quite as scary for Lizzie as when she had come in the first time.

The doctor didn't say anything right away from what sage could tell, though all the noises were blending together and seemed like they were at the end of a long, long tunnel. Lizzie went to the side of the bed and watched sage for a moment before sighing and sitting down in a chair away from the bed so as not to get in the doctors way. She wasn't sure what the doctor could do about it, she had a feeling it was worse than Anya and Sage had let on, though she couldn't be sure. She watches the doctor closely, hoping sage would be alright, for sure this time, once the doctor was done.

Anya took a step back when the two finally came through the door, relived that Lizzie hadn't been spotted, and of course thankful that the doctor had agreed to come along again. It meant that Sage was in more useful hands for a while. The doctor, however, seemed a good bit more stressed. He listened to his breathing for a moment before rushing around a bit. "...it looks like you're right. Chest infections normally aren't fatal, not if they aren't bad. I'm going to be perfectly honest, though, this isn't looking too good for him." The man went into his little bag of tools and pulled out a small jar, filled with a dark green, almost black liquid. He swirled it around for a moment, "Its strange that I didn't catch it sooner. Try this though. It's not going to get rid of any infection, but it should make him cough up most of the gunk in his lungs. Might make it easier to breath until we can drain his lungs properly." Lizzie frowned at the doctors words. So she was right...Sage was in more trouble than the older kids had let on. She knew they were only trying to help her by keeping the worst of things a secret, and she was glad of it, but if he died she would ask for the whole truth. If he lived, she would just be thankful. She didn't need to ask about it all. She looked at the vial the doctor was holding and cocked her head curiously. "What's it made out of? It looks almost like a mix of herbs blended together." Then she made a face. "Sorry, I'll let you work," she muttered. She was curious, but her curiosity wasn't as important as Sage who by now seemed almost lifeless on the bed. She wondered if he could hold on until his lungs were drained ..it seemed hard to imagine him being here much longer.
