Iris stared at her phone, a little confused. The message was from Carmen (had to dig deep for that name LOL). It read: -Hey, where are you? I thought we decided to meet in the library?- When her brain finally decided to kick in, she remembered: She was supposed to have another tutoring session with Carmen today. At 10:00 AM. She looked down at her watch. 10:20. "Rats," Iris muttered, then began gathering her things. "Caden, I'm so sorry, but I have to go." She said over her shoulder.

"I have to go," What? Where? Why? Who? Caden thought, just nodding. "Oh. . . yeah uh, when are you free again?" He asked, the current time being the only free spot he had for a few weeks, and he was sure Iris was just as busy. The man stood, pulling his coat back on.

Iris felt bad jumping up and leaving like that but she couldn't be later than she already was. "I've got a pretty busy week, I think I have some time available on Thursday or Sunday? I'll text you when I know for sure." She had stuffed all the things she thought she'd need into her backpack and grabbed her purse and jacket. She followed Caden out the door and locked it behind her. Iris gave Caden a quick hug-- "See you later,"-- and walked quickly towards the library through the gathering snow.

|
"Yeah, see you." He murmured, hugging her back before watching as she left, turning and walking off in the other direction. Caden was busy both dates she had said, finals on each and almost every day of the week.

Once in the library, Iris kicked the snow off her shoes and looked around for Carmen. She spotted her at one of the smaller tables. Iris hurried over and set her backpack down, sliding into the open chair. "I'm so sorry I'm late," she apologized, getting out a notebook and pencil.

"Let me guess, you were with that snob Caden? I don't blame you though, he's great in the beginning, terrible in the end though." Carmen mused with a soft chuckled, grabbing her book out of her backpack.

Iris bristled at Carmen's remark but calmed herself quickly. "I was caught up in my math homework and lost track of time." This was partly true. She would avoid the subject for now, but if Carmen brought up Caden again she would have to say something. Iris titled a page in her notebook and wrote the date.

|
"Mm, gotcha." She muttered, finding the page they were on. -First pump her full of lies so she'll leave him, then finally, I can have him back.-

Iris heard the disbelief in Carmen's voice, but she ignored it. "Okay, what chapter are you on?" she asked.

| |
|

|
"28, finished the other 16 last night, got a bit bored." She said casually, flipping to where she had started at.
