Sage hummed in response to her comment, nodding along. "I dunno, you have t done much to surprise me that much recently," he mused, clearly messing around. Three rounds before breakfast had certainly been a surprise to wake up to. But he definitely hadn't minded that. He had no doubt she could surprise him, and get him good, but he didn't really care. It was worth it.

He hummed as she spoke up again, snorting softly and placing his own card down after a moment of quiet thinking. "I suppose we'll find out," he hummed in a neutral tone, carefully picked.

He raised an eyebrow when she told him to just let her win, shaking his head with a grin. "Nope, of you do win it'll be because you deserved it not because I went easy on you," he chirped. Then he snickered. "You wouldn't let me keep the smug grin anyhow," he pointed out lightly to her.

Jora smirked at Sage’s words, the familiar playful banter settling comfortably between them. "Oh, I don't know, Sage," she teased, tapping her card down with a dramatic flourish. "I think I could still surprise you. It just takes a bit more effort now that you're so… predictable." She shrugged casually, pretending to consider it. "Or maybe I just like making you work for it."
She watched him place his card carefully, studying his expression as he hummed and snorted. A part of her enjoyed how seriously he could take these little games, though she had to admit she wasn’t above pushing his buttons. "We'll see if your luck holds out, then," she said with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
At his insistence about earning the win, she let out a short laugh. "Sure, sure. You're such a sportsman," she replied with mock sweetness, leaning back in her chair.

Sage couldn't help but grin over at her when she spoke up again. "Oh, you definitely like making me squirm," he noted, a fond sort of amusement in his tone. He didn't need to keep a poker face or anything for that. "Though, I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens," he added with a hum.

He placed his own card down slowly, chuckling in response to her comment about his luck. "Oh lucky has nothing to do with it. I have terrible luck," he noted with an amused head shake. "Its all a brain game," he mused lightly, sticking his tongue out at her when she teased him about being a sportsman. "Just wait until you have to do something for me," he teased. "Then we'll see who's teasing who."

Jora's lips curled into a sly grin as she caught the glint in Sage's eyes. His words weren’t lost on her, and she leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms with an almost playful challenge in her gaze. "Oh, I'm well aware," she teased, voice dripping with mock innocence. "But you do seem to enjoy it," she added with a raised eyebrow, savoring the light-hearted tension.

She watched him place his card with a casual confidence, her eyes narrowing slightly as she analyzed him. "A brain game, huh?" she mused, her tone drifting into something more intrigued. "I’ll have to keep that in mind." She let out a quiet chuckle at his tongue gesture, rolling her eyes as if his antics were becoming expected at this point.

Her grin shifted to something a little more mischievous. "You think I'm gonna be the one doing something for you?" she shot back, her voice taking on an almost challenging edge. "We'll see who comes out on top when the game ends, Sage." There was a promise in her words—a teasing, unspoken understanding that she wasn’t backing down so easily.

Sage snickered softly as she mentioned that he liked it, and he hummed as if thinking. "I suppose I do like it here and there," he mused, a quick shrug moving his shoulders. He liked it more than he'd ever really admit, of course, though she probably knew that without him admitting it. That didn't matter much though, he supposed. He just enjoyed their light hearted banter back and forth.

He agreed with her lighlty when she repeated his brain game comment, grinning over at her as she kept challenging him. "I suppose we will," he mused, placing another card down on the deck and then settling down in his spot again.

It continued like that for a while...maybe an hour or so. They were both pretty good at what they were doing, but now things were narrowing down as they ran out of cards and such. He had a decent hand....though if she had the one card he needed it would mean she'd beat him. But if she didn't...then he'd beat her. It would down to the one card, he supposed. Evertually he just huffed out a breath and set it down, laying the plan out. Now she just had to respond. Hopefully, it was in his favor, though it very well could go either way.

(idc who wins lol)

Jora leaned back slightly, watching Sage with a sharp, focused gaze as she carefully considered her move. The silence between them stretched, filled only by the quiet shuffle of cards. Her mind raced, calculating the odds, knowing full well that the final card would decide it all.
When Sage finally made her move, Jora’s eyes flicked from her face to the card she placed down. A slow, resigned breath escaped her as she realized Sage had the one card she needed. She had won.
For a moment, Jora sat still, the sting of defeat sharper than she cared to admit. But instead of frustration, a wry smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She couldn’t help but admire Sage’s skill. "Well played," she murmured, her voice low but acknowledging. She met Sage’s eyes, the challenge still lingering, though it was clear Sage had come out on top this time.
Sage couldn’t suppress a triumphant smirk, her laughter light and teasing. Jora let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head in mock defeat. "Guess it’s your win today," she said, still holding that small, amused smile. "But next time, I’m taking it back." The playful rivalry between them was far from over—Jora would be back to reclaim her victory.

Sage watched Jora's face carefully as he placed the card down and she glanced over her deck to try and beat him. When she didn't, he felt the grin on his face growing. He couldn't help but let out a light yell of victory when she sighed, eye glittering. They'd had a fun time, annd he could admit it felt nice to know he was actually capable of playing the game without the crew just letting him win. This had been a fun challenge...he'd certainly enjoyed his time.

He moved to gather all the cards up once she'd set down the rest of her hand, chuckling softly. "I'm sure you will," he mused as she spoke up, glad to know they'd had enough fun to play games like this more often. She'd enjoyed herself too, which made him glad he'd suggested they play.

"For now though, I suppose you should start thinking about how you're gonna pay up," he added, a mischevious grin crossing his face as he glanced up at her. "I am rather curious as to how you're gonna surprise me," he cooed, really just teasing her. Really, as scary as the bet soudned, it could be something as simple as her favorite dog breed or something. She hadn't told him that, so it would theoretically count. But she could take it a bit deeper, and play around with him with it all, and he figured that's where she'd go with it.

Jora raised an eyebrow as Sage’s grin stretched wider, the victorious glint in his eyes almost as sharp as his teasing words. She couldn't help but exhale a soft laugh at his playful tone. She'd lost this round, but it hadn’t been for lack of trying. The challenge had been fun, and she’d enjoyed the way he took the game seriously for once—he wasn’t just letting her win because she was "the older one" or "the one with the experience" like the crew usually did. That made this loss sting a little less.
But now… now it was time for the payment. Jora folded her arms, leaning back slightly in her seat as she let the silence stretch out a bit longer than necessary. His words hovered in the air, playful but with an edge, as if he was daring her to go deeper with the bet. And knowing Sage, he was expecting something bold, maybe something unexpected. That grin of his was already starting to shift into something more curious.
“Hmm,” she hummed, eyes narrowing slightly as she leaned forward. “You want me to surprise you, huh?”
She tapped her fingers against the table thoughtfully, letting the anticipation hang between them. She liked how he thought he knew her, how he assumed she’d play along with something trivial. But Jora wasn’t one for easy answers.
"Well, I could give you something as simple as a favorite dog breed, if you really want to be disappointed," she teased, her lips curling up just slightly, "But I’m guessing you’d prefer something… more interesting?"
Her voice dropped lower, the playful challenge clear in her tone. She wasn't about to make this easy for him—not when it was so much more fun to keep him guessing.
"How about this—I'll tell you something about me you don’t know yet." She let the words settle for a moment before giving him a sly smile. "But it’ll cost you a little more than just winning a card game."
She could feel his curiosity piquing, just as she knew he'd want. Jora loved making people work for it, and Sage? Well, he was no different.

Sage humemd softly as Jora spoke, shrugging when she mentioned he'd want to be surprised. "Well, it would make things more interesting I suppose," he replied nonchalantly, but he really was curious. He did try to make it seem like he wasn't quite so curious about it, but he definitely was.

When she mentioned dog breeds though, he chuckled. "As much as I love dogs, I suppose something more interesting would be more fun," he chuckled softly. He felt his grin widen when her tone dropped, and he moved to put the cards back away before wandering back towards her.

Of course, when she mentioned it would coat him more than just the game, he groaned and flopped down on the side of the couch she wasn't perched on. "I should've picked the dogs," he half grumbled. They both knew it was phrased as a challenge, and he'd accept a challenge no matter what. So there was that. He was probably screwed...though he'd sort of known he'd be screwed whether he won or not a while ago. It was amusing really....getting the upper hand against her was rather hard. "Fine," he huffed after a moment or so. "What else do I need to do then," he added, still grumbly but not in an upset way

Jora watched Sage's reactions closely, her heart quickening at the hints of curiosity flickering in his eyes. She could sense a playful tension in the air between them, one that made everything feel more vibrant. As he shrugged off the surprise with a nonchalant reply, she couldn’t help but smirk to herself. He was always better at hiding his intrigue than she was.
When the topic of dogs came up, she could see the genuine affection in his expression. It warmed her, knowing how much he loved animals, but it also made her want to push the boundaries a little further. Jora leaned back against the couch, crossing her arms with a playful challenge in her gaze. "Interesting sounds much more entertaining," she teased lightly, enjoying the banter.
She bit her lip, suppressing a laugh when he flopped down beside her, theatrically groaning about his decision. There was an undeniable charm in his grumpiness, and Jora couldn’t help but find it endearing. He had walked right into her playful trap, and the thrill of the challenge sent a ripple of excitement through her.
“Maybe I just wanted to see you squirm a little,” she shot back, her tone mischievous. It was true; there was a delightful joy in the competition that brought them closer, even when it felt like the stakes were rising.
As he finally relented and asked the inevitable question, Jora shifted closer, a subtle grin spreading across her features. "Well, if you're up for it, I have a few ideas in mind," she replied, her voice low and teasing. The light in her eyes sparkled with possibilities, and she could hardly wait to see how he would respond.
