Mari nodded lightly to the boy, a bit of a smile across her cheeks when she thought about the old man and Sage... they really were just like father and son. Like they'd known each other forever... it was nice. And she was glad that Sage could have that kind of relationship with anyone. "You guys and nice to watch when you're together. You get on well," she hummed lightly. She did hope Att would like the baby, too... she hadn't seen much of the child, but she knew he meant a lot to Sage. Anya did too, and she just didn't want to get in the way of any of that. She didn't want to make things weird. "I hope so," she hummed quietly before letting herself drift a little bit. She couldn't help as she started to fall into a light sleep... Sage was warm, and she finally felt just a tiny bit better... so she could afford to rest a tiny bit.

Sage hummed in agreement with the girl and wrapped his arms around her, turning slightly so he could curl up against the girl more. "I do like the doctor," he hummed quietly. He chuckled slightly, more than happy the man had decided to take him in and help him out a bit. The girl fell asleep soon enough, and he lay there for a while petting Amber, until the cat had gotten bored and went off to play with a toy. He allowed himself to fall asleep then. It was light, in case the girl needed him, but he did welcome the rest. The next week or so flew by quickly, and it was Maris day off, so he figured she'd want to go visit her family, and tell them the news. He was a bit nervous for it all, but they did deserve to know.

The next few days just seemed to get rougher for Mari... nausea turned into vomiting, and her headaches became migraines which were... not nice. She just had to get enough rest so that she could work and eat and then sleep. Functioning was just hard. She just needed to have faith that she'd get better in the next few months. By the time the weekend arrived, she'd mentally prepared to talk to her family... well, mainly to her eldest brother, because he was likely to have something to say about it. But it was early in the morning, and she was pretty much just sitting in front of the toilet, waiting for something to come up. She'd tried not to wake Sage up in her rushing to the bathroom because she felt bad that he'd had to deal with her at all while she was like this... and, well, he deserved to sleep in before they set off.

Sage hadn't noticed the girl get up and out of bed at first, which was a bit of a surprise considering he was normally such a light sleeper. Then again, he'd been busy, caring for the girl and taking over some of her work and helping out when she got tired...and he probably was worrying too much, but it was hard not to worry about the girl when she was throwing up all morning or when she got a migraine and almost passed out somewhere. He woke up eventually though, and when he noticed Mari wasn't in bed he sighed slightly before padding sleepily over to the toilet and gently moving her hair out of her face, crouching down beside her with a yawn. "Why didn't you wake me if you're hurting," he murmured, wrapping an arm around her to rub her back soothingly. "you know I don't mind." He wanted to help...he could deal with less sleep, he'd done it for years with barely sleeping, so he could lose a few hours now to help her out.

The girl jumped slightly when the boy came in to try and comfort her. She really didn't mean to wake him... she'd been trying not to, he'd been busy, and she felt awful that he'd been taking over her work... the least she could do was try and let him sleep. He was worrying about her, and she knew that... she just didn't want to cause more worry than he already was feeling. "I just..." she trailed off slightly, shaking her head as she felt a bit of a lump form in her throat. God, was she getting emotional about this? It wasn't that big of a deal, but for some reason, she just felt like it was. Maybe it was because she was vulnerable at then... tired, and hurting, and everything just seemed to add up. Sage was being so good to her... and that seemed to add something to it as well. She sighed and covered her eyes with one hand, clearly just struggling. She was better during the day, but mornings and evenings were just... rough. "I'm sorry," she whispered to the boy, "I just wanted to let you sleep," she murmured quietly, her voice breaking just a little bit. She felt awful for this... and the fact he was being so kind about it just made her feel cared for in a way she'd never really gotten before... and it was a nice feeling, but for some reason, it still gave her that overwhelming feeling of wanting to cry... and it really was horrible.

Sage murmured a quick apology to the girl when she jumped, then listened to her with a tilted head. He was surprised when she just... apologized, and then quite honestly got rather scared when he heard her voice break. "No, no...it's alright, don't apologize, I get plenty of sleep," he hummed hurriedly, wrapping an arm around the girl comfortingly. "Are you really up for traveling," he asked. "I mean...you look awful, and probably feel awful, and I don't want you to end up passing out on the way there or anything and if you start crying I might start sobbing with you so please don't make us both a bawling mess." The last part was really just a joke, since he was a, trying to cheer her up a bit and stop her from breaking down in tears, and b, because it was a way he could distract himself from the issue of Mari feeling crappy and the things that could go wrong. He knew he shouldn't worry so much, but he'd had to care for things too much his entire life ...he'd never had it easy, and he knew they had a doctor there, but he still felt like any little thing could be devastating. And he was just terrified about it all. He was excited, yes, a lot....but this part was less than stellar, in his opinion.

Mari couldn't really look at him as he spoke to her in fear that she'd just break down crying... she didn't want to do that, and she didn't want to make Sage feel bad about it either, because it wasn't his fault. When he wrapped an arm around her, that just became harder to do... she fell into him a little bit, clenching her jaw and keeping her eyes closed, begging herself not to cry in front of him. She did try a smile at his joke, but it didn't last very long. "But you..." she trailed off a little bit before shaking her head. Her voice was still quiet, still trying to swallow the lump in her throat, though it was just getting harder and harder to do. She hadn't cried in front of him before... and she really didn't want to do that now. She was already a mess, and it wouldn't have been a particularly pleasant sight. She was quiet for a moment as she had to wipe an escaped tear from her cheeks. "We need to tell them..." she told the boy, still not looking at him... not trusting herself to look at him right then.

Sage sighed when the girl didn't cheer up any, and reached over to wipe another stray tear away gently before hugging the girl tightly. He didn't even care if she threw up on him....he just knew she needed some care. Some comfort. "If you need to cry, then cry," he hummed quietly. "The doctor told me once that tears carry something to make us feel better ...so if you feel like you need to, let it out," he urged her gently, knowing a good cry would probably actually help the girl. he nodded when she mentioned telling her family, knowing she was right. "We don't have to leave until you feel up for it," he promised the girl. "If not today, then whenever you feel better." Maybe her mother would know something to help Mari out a bit....she'd had plenty of her own children, after all. Maybe a recipie for the pain or nausea that wasn't a pill the doctor could give her.

The girl furrowed her brows slightly when the boy said it was okay if she wanted to cry... she'd never been told that before... and it just made the knot in her chest tighten even more, and it just seemed to snap when he said they could wait until she felt any better. Tears soon started to roll and she just hid in his chest as her shoulders started to shake. She didn't make a sound, not other than her choking out another apology to him. He didn't need to see her like this, but it felt good just to be held for a while, to feel safe with him. She just felt so fragile... like a child. She sat there like that for about fifteen minutes... just silently sobbing into his chest. She hated all of this... the mornings, the migraines, the constant tiredness and of course making the man she loved worry about her so much... she could only hope it'd settle down sooner or later. Sooner rather than later, really. Soon, the slight shaking in her shoulders eventually settled down, though she didn't move. She just wanted to be held for a while. She did want to go home today, though... she wanted to talk to her mother about his. She'd try anything at this point, and even though it hadn't been that long, she wasn't sure she could handle feeling like this for much longer.

Sage shook his head at the girl's apology, murmuring out words he thought might be at least a bit comforting to Mari. He didn't mind her when she started to cry ...didn't mind her tight grip on him, didn't mind the tears wetting the front of his shirt. He just wanted her to feel better, and found himself hoping that her mother would know some way to help her. Because he was wearing himself out thin trying to take care of her, and keep her happy and healthy, but he was seemingly doing a pretty miserable job at it. At least he could hold her....try and comfort her, even if he was fighting to stay awake he was so exhausted by then. She didn't need to know how worn thin he was, or the few pounds he'd already lost. The meals he'd skipped because he wanted to do something for her and he just didn't have time for both. The nights he stayed awake making sure she was comfortable or always had water next to the bed. He just wanted her to be happy, and he didn't think he was achieving that. She was happy about the baby ...but what if this kept happening and she got tired of it all? What if she thought he'd just hurt her, and she didn't want the child?
