The girl shrugged to the boy a bit of a chuckle. "She's a sweet little thing. So was Att, actually... not that you can compare him to a cat. But I looked after him a bit when he was little," she hummed lightly. "Cheeky little bit," she hummed in a rather amused manner. She gave a gentle smile when he said he didn't mind walking with her... really, she was a little bit boring when she was out shopping, but it was nice that he wanted to walk with her for a little bit. "That's fine," she hummed lightly, a friendly grin on her face. She wandered straight towards a little shop outside the market the doctor had directed her to, and picked up a couple of tools he wanted.

Sage chuckled and nodded, a soft smile coming into his face at the mention of both the cat and boy. "When I first found him as an infant he was the same way he is now," he chuckled. He sort of just followed the girl around as she shopped, holding things as needed. Normally, he wouldn't much care to shop, but Mari seemed to enjoy it, and he enjoyed being with her .. so really, it all worked out in the end. Besides, he had to admit there were some cool tools in the doctors section. He pretty much immediately focused on a giant saw that was pretty much the size of his torso, and his eyes went wide. He sort of hopped over to it with a delighted giggle and grabbed it to hold it up to show Mari, a dumb grin on his face. "I dunno what this is for but it's cool," he called over to her happily. No doubt she'd tell him to put it down so no one got hurt, but whatever. It was still cool.

Mari smiled slightly to the boy and shook her head. "He's fun. I've never met a little kid so exited about life," she hummed as she picked up a couple more little bits and bobs before looking over at Sage, kind of wide eyed at the saw in his hands. "I'm pretty sure it's for cutting trees - or maybe bones. You'd have to ask the doctor," she mused before wandering up to the cashier and flashing a charming smile, striking up a little conversation before turning back to Sage once she'd paid. "All sorted... let's go and find somewhere to eat... I don't normally come down this part, so any ideas?" she hummed before gently taking the saw from him and placing it back in the shelf. "I'm surprised you didn't manage to kill anyone with it," she teased as she wandered out the shop.

Sage chuckled at the girl's comment and went back to peering at the saw, sort of tilting it around to make the sun hit the blade and flash around. He snorted when Mari came to put it back on the shelf. "Naw, sawing people in half isn't really my thing," he hummed. "I did shine light in a few peoples eyes though," he admitted with a bit of a giggle. He shook his head slightly at her question and shrugged. "Well, the tavern I used to work at is right around the corner...but I don't think it's a great place to eat at. Everyone's drunk and it's not clean or anything," he hummed. "Somewhere else would probably be better. We can walk and find somewhere."

The girl nodded slightly and pursed her lips a bit. "Didn't think it would be," she hummed before poking his side in a playful manner. "Not sure I could go out with someone who liked sawing people up," she hummed before taking his hand and leading him out the little shop before looking around. "I don't mind where we go, as long as it's with you," she told him with a giggle, a tiny bit embarrassed with how cheesy that sounded. She had to admit... she did want to see where he had worked... but she didn't think it would bring in very nice memories for the boy, and that wasn't what she wanted.

Sage chuckled slightly, a grin growing on his face as the girl took his hand. He ambled along after her humming in thought. "There's a small diner a bit past the tavern, we could try that," he suggested. "But it doesn't really matter to me," he admitted. They'd have to go past the tavern, but as long as he didn't go in it, he assumed he'd be alright. He wouldn't get roped into work anyway...he was done there. And Mari was with him too, so nothing too bad could happen, right? He sort of tugged the girl in the direction of the diner, nodding to the tavern when they passed it. There were plenty of people outside, who were drunk and throwing up and all the rest. "That's pretty much it," he huffed, clearly not a fan of the place. A few of the people outside saw him, and started in on the whistling and crude comments towards him. "Just ignore them," he muttered to Mari, though he wrinkled his nose slightly when one of the older women of the group yelled "you've got a good lay, girl," to Mari. He sort of just stomped along faster, eyeing the women wearily. No doubt Mari was confused, but he could explain later.

Mari followed the boy along quietly. She glanced to tavern when he pointed it out, and couldn't help but wrinkle her nose... the noise that was coming out of it was awful, along with the sickly smell of alcohol... and, well, actual sick. It took her a good moment or two to actually note that the noise and whistles were actually towards Sage... and she could see the discomfort in the boys demeanor. She felt awful for him, and she could easily see why he didn't like the place. She was caught a little bit off guard by the older woman, though... and couldn't help but be... curious as to what she was saying. Confused, was a better word. She knew he worked rooms in the tavern, he'd told her that a few weeks back, but she didn't think it was a lot... but from what she'd just heard, it sounded like it'd happened a fair few times. The boy seemed to just be towing her along, now, and he was kind of worried her a little bit. "Sage, hang on," she whispered to the boy, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. She could see the diner now... but she just wanted things to settle down a little bit before they went through the doors. Edited at February 28, 2023 11:55 AM by Belle

Sage glanced back at Mari when he heard he voice, making a visible effort to relax a bit and turn towards the girl with a cocked head. He wasn't sure what she wanted, but he could tell she was confused, and a bit worried, too. They were out of sight of the drinks, thankfully, and he could no longer hear their crude calls or comments. He couldn't really think of a good response, so he sort of just stood there waiting for the girl to ask her question or say whatever she wanted to say.

Mari have a bit of a breath when they finally stopped... he was probably walking a lot faster than what she could keep up with. They didn't need to talk about this now... she thought they just needed a second or two before going into the diner. She wanted to make sure he was okay, was all. "What..." she trailed off slightly before rethinking her wording and shaking her head. "Is everything alright?" She could ask the whats and whos and whys later on... for now she just wanted to make sure he was okay, because walking through a crowd of people like that... it was scary, especially with all the crude comments and occasional threats from everyone. That... it wasn't nice, not one bit.

Sage blinked slightly and cocked his head a bit when the girl asked her question. He'd expected her to be curious about it all, to ask more questions than wether or not he was alright....but it was nice of her all the same. He supposed all it did was show she cared about him. He realized he had to respond then, so he sighed and nodded slowly. "I'm used to it," he hummed quietly. "I hear the same things all day when I'm waiting on them." He shrugged slightly and as a second thought added, " well I used to anyway. I guess the doctor got tired of patching me up and tried to keep me away from the place." He sort of let out a dry bark of laughter after that, then wrinkled his nose slightly. He didn't have to worry the girl....they were out to have a good time, he didn't want to ruin that. In all honesty, having a good time would probably be nice....though he was heasitant to go back past the tavern on the way home. (What if on the way home they actually try to grab sage? Might cause some extra drama lol)
