Eve - that sounds more aligned with me. I would think it might be difficult to make a living from at the same time? I do not want to do something like that to maximize profit of course, but still have enough to focus on it without running out of my own supply for needs.

Void - there are definitely still places in medicine where the root cause is addressed. I was referring to for example, someone having a mental health issue (not one where they have a predisposed genetic factor of course, that requires medication) and rather than trying to figure out what’s causing them to have imbalances and addressing the underlying issue, band-aiding with something that masks over the issue itself and makes it feel as if it was gone, but later realizing the core problem still presides.

let me ask--are you thinking of going to college, and think you need to pick a specific specialty or study to be good at it? because it's completely valid and even a very good thing for many people not to immediately go into school, and to just learn to navigate the "real" world and see if you find something that speaks to you. yes it can make it more difficult to go to school in some cases, but it can also offer a lot more maturity and experience to bring to a schooling scenario when you know you really want to do something

zrek - that's certainly a risk, of course, but all the therapists I've worked with I've been very lucky to have ones who deeply, genuinely care for the wellbeing of their patients, and make the system better as much they can from the inside. without good people in the systems, the systems will only ever be "bad"

...Although, in some cases, fixing the symptoms is literally just a matter of yeeting medicine at someone's head lmao because no therapy in the world is going to correct neurotransmitter issues

O_o no? That definitely doesn't align with medical practice since to 'fix the symptoms' it requires going to the root cause. It's why cognitive behavior therapy is one of the most popular types

Eve - I’ve thought about therapy but then considered the way clinics operate. I feel like I wouldn’t be able to help people because I’d be operating under the systems of the masses - once again instructed to only fix the symptoms and only use specific knowledge. Maybe if it was my own clinic. I just feel like it has a lot of the same corruption as medicine.

zrek - (lol yeah not surprised); even if it's not fixing society, it means the world to the person whose world you touch. and those butterfly effect ripples make all the difference in the end, even if we can't see the impacts and results

Social work can be many different things. You could work for a shelter, such a case manager/social worker. Counseling, Resident Support. Or you could get more into the medical field. My sister is a psychologist at a hospital. She did social work before that. She has a masters in psychology.

Gladius - (autocorrect wants to call you Gladys) thank you, it’s difficult not to treat it as if I am committing to my life’s work - the intensity of it all seems to make it that way. Sometimes I feel like even when I’m trying to do good in the spheres I know I’m only fixing the symptoms of a broken society rather than fixing it at the source. It’s rather draining and makes things feel hopeless. I hope things can change for the better faster than I assume.

Tyler glanced over at Andi. "Okay then." He answered. Tyler believed Andi could take care of herself... so he laid off the subject. He leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes, wondering when he would tell Andi about his job. She might not like it... his job was kind of dangerous. And very strenuous... she would be very angry if he went back right away. Maybe Tyler would wait to tell her until he was better... until he was actually doing the job again. After a couple minutes he finally said, "Well I hope you sleep well." Tyler knew he was going to sleep well... he was exhausted

Andi laid back down on the couch "Thanks, you too" She yawned loudly before closing her eyes. She tucked her knees up a little to get comfortable. She laid quietly for awhile jus thinking. She wondered if she should take the day off tomorrow so she could sleep in and do something fun. Or if she should just suck it up and go "Decision decision.." She muttered to herself before closing her eyes and quickly falling asleep

Tyler slowly drifted off to sleep, thinking about flying through the air. He couldn't wait to do that again. He fell into a deep sleep, sure he wouldn't wake up for the whole night. (Sorry it's short... it's hard to write about them falling asleep XD)

Andi jolted up wake off the couch, she knew it was super late in the morning by the way the sun shone into the cabin. She looked at her phone -crap it's already 10am...- She sat back down on the couch sighing -this is the fourth time you've done this to them in a month... you should be lucky they haven't fired you yet- She scolded herself in her mind before getting up. She yawned walking over to Jasper, he stood up on all four paws "Oh you might be able to get that off soon!" She softly said before patting him and walking over to the door to let him out. Jasper slowly walked out doing whatever he needed to do, in the meantime she was getting Raven out so that she could go do whatever she needed to do as well

Tyler first felt sun shining on his face... then he woke up slowly. He blinked, moving his head so the sun wasn't in his eyes, then glanced at the clock. 10:00 AM. Tyler closed his eyes a moment before pushing himself out of the chair, wincing as his sore muscles protested. He glanced around, seeing no dogs. Tyler tipped his head, walking over to the door and going outside. There was Andi... and Jasper... and Raven. Tyler guessed she had just woken up late... he hoped she wouldn't get in trouble or something. "I'll see you after work." Tyler said quietly, his voice slightly hoarse... and he didn't really know why.

Andi looeked over at the door when she heard it creak open, she smiled a bit seeing it was Tyler "Good morning" she said softly before turning her attention back to Raven and Jasper. She raised her brow a little notcing that his voice was a little hoarse when he spoke but she didn't think long about it "Oh I called into work and told them I was sickk... again" She shrugged her shoudlers a little bit, she knew it wasn't very responable to first of all not show up to work and then call 3 hours later saying that she was sick. But honestly she didn't care she wanted the day off and if they fired her she could always just find another job.

Tyler tipped his head and listened to Andi's explanation. "Hm.. okay." Tyler answered slowly, turning and exiting the house fully. He sat down in the porch and let out a pained breath, wondering when it would stop hurting. Tyler gazed at Raven who was currently racing herself through the fields... then falling head over heels. He smiled slightly, running a hand through his hair and willing himself to wake up.

Andi yawned still trying to make herself fully awake. She looked around for something to do when she spotted daises in the field. She smiled swiftly going off the porch and out to the field, she sat down criss cross in the middle of the field surronded by daises. She started picking them and putting a huge pile beside them, Jasper came slowly walking up to her and nudged her before laying down "Hey there boy" She aptted him before continuing to pick the daises. As soon as she got enough she started one by one weaving them together

Tyler turned his gaze to Andi, watching as she started picking daisies. He didn't know what she was doing... but it seemed for fun than sitting on this hard wooden porch. Tyler stood up slowly and walked over, sitting down a little ways away from her. He may not be able to get up that quickly... or at all... but he didn't really care right now. Tyler would stay out here all day if he could. He laid back in the grass and let out a sigh, staring up at the sky and wishing he was up there. Tyler knew if he told Andi about his job there was one thing she would tease him about.... with no doubt.

Andi glanced over at Tyler as he came and sat down somewhat a ways away from her. She smiled getting an idea, once she had finished weaving the first set of daises she picked more and started weaving them together. She looked at it hoping it would be wide enough and finally weaved it closed. She stood up hiding ot behind her back and walked up to Tyler "Hey sit up I got a surprise for you" A huge grin was spread across her face which usually meant she was up to no good
