Quinn peeked in, watching Sage drink and then fall asleep.. then wake back up. She wanted to help him but didn't know how... Quinn sighed and listened to the animals. They were saying so many different things she almost got a headache.. but she was getting better at that.

Sage sort of just shifted around, trying to get comfortable. He was admittedly failing, and he felt awful. He really did feel awful. Worse than he'd ever felt in his life, really. He looked around blearily for Quinn, a soft whine coming from his throat. He wanted her comfort, but he just couldn't bring himself to go to her....he just couldn't. So he lay there, trying to ignore the pain and emotions bubbling up in his chest. They reached a breaking point though, at some time, and he raised his head to let out a pained howl. It was a rather weak one...but it was just a way to express it all.

As soon as Quinn heard the howl of pain she darted back to the campsite, pretty much diving into the tent to make sure he was okay. When she saw he was..okay.. to some extent, she sat beside him again and sighed, wondering when all this would end. Quinn suddenly bolted up in fear. She tipped her head, then her heartbeat quickened. "Sage, Sage we have to go. The bird came back, she said we aren't that far away and the king is coming right now! Come on please, try for me." Quinn begged, trying to help him up. She mind called Chaos and Sahara, and they came galloping over. Quinn tried to help Sage onto Chaos. Edited at April 10, 2023 10:39 AM by Wild Warmbloods

Sage glanced over at Quinn when she came into their fortress, and sort of shifted so his back was pressed up against her leg. It was really just a comfort thing...but he still felt awful. He groaned when she said they had to go and then tried to struggle to his feet and onto chaos. It was definitely a struggle, but they got him on. Chaos kept his stride as even as possible while they galloped off, since sage pretty much just flopped on his neck and clung there as best he could.

Quinn hopped on Sahara and told her to gallop faster than ever before. She was afraid.. not of the king, or her mother... but of what she might do to them if they caught Sage. Quinn had a secret.. she shared half of it with Sage... but not the other half. She didn't want to have to fight the kingdom because Quinn knew she would win... animals existed before humans were ever alive.. they have powers humans don't even know about. Quinn can communicate with them...

Sage let chaos just follow Sahara. He was trusting Quinn to get them as far away from their parents as possible. Because he couldn't do anything besides hold on and hope he didn't pass out while they were still close to them.

Quinn could hear the knights drawing closer. She hated to do this... but they couldn't run any farther. Quinn stopped the horses, hopping off Sahara and helping Sage fall off Chaos. She set him down nearby, hidden behind a tree in some bushes. Quinn made sure he wasn't visible, then got back on Sahara and waited.

Sage was slightly confused when she stopped, and opened his mouth to ask what she was doing. But his mouth failed him, so he decided just to trust her and stay as quiet as possible. He was panting...and he was terrified they could hear his raspy breathing. But Quinn had hidden him....where was she? Would she be alright? He just had to trust her, he supposed. He certainly couldn't help her.

The knights thundered up. Of course the king nor her mother was with them, so it was only five knights. Quinn took a breath. - One if the knights called out, "Miss Carter, where is Sage?" - Quinn didn't answer. The knights came closer. "The King has instructed us to take Both if you back. Where is he?" One of them growled, coming closer and slapping her with his metal clad hand. She gasped slightly, pain flaring through her cheek as it started bleeding, bruises already forming. But.. this was what she needed. She could never start a war... but she could defend herself. Quinn sent out a message, calling all the big predators around the area. Grizzlies came, mountain lions came, and wolves came. She told them that there was free food, then Quinn waited. Before long there was no more sign of the knights... just some tacked up horses. Quinn got off and untacked them, telling them they were free. The horses ran away happily, so Quinn went to Sage and spoke softly. "They're gone. Let's keep moving." She murmured, helping him back up on Chaos

Sage wasn't very aware of what happened next...he could hear voices, but eventually the noises faded and the girl came back. He nodded and tried to help her drag him up again. He smelled the blood on her though, and his nose twitched. He half reached towards her face. "You're bleeding," he rasped, sort of asking if she was alright. He got on chaos though ...but he did want to make sure she was fine. He couldn't see how bad she was hurt, and he was worried about it.
