I heard a loud high-pitched whinny in the distance, I urged Maverick onward, closer to the noises, I soon found Ferris near a small creek, dipping her nose into the water to get a drink. I slowly got of Mav, "easy, pretty girl" I whispered, then grabbed her reins, I lined he up next to Mav, and we headed back, side by side.

My breathing was heavy and my hands were clammy and cold by the time I got back, I could hear the paramedic's sirens in the distance, not far. By now his eyes were open, slightly, but they had hope in them, like he had a reason to hang on.

"Dallas, please" I whispered, the paramedics arrived, jumping out of the car and starting chest compressions, they later wheeled him into the back of the car. I watched dreadfully as his practically lifeless body got taken away, I got down onto my hands and knees next to both horses, "please" I said.

When I reached Dally's room I saw his warm eyes meet mine, "how are you doing?" I asked, sitting on the edge of his hospital bed, "I'm okay, the nurse said I have to be in a couple more days, just so they can keep an eye on me" he said, "that's good" I grinned. "Is there anything I can get you? food-wise? I know hospital food sucks." I said, grimacing.

Dally returned to the barn, practically skipping with excitment, wincing every time he took a step. But he was here, alive, and somewhat well. He had a boot on, he had sprained part of his foot badly, when he fell his foot got caught in the stirrup, "glad to see you back with the horses" I smiled, "yeah" he breathed, "It's great" he patted his mare on the neck, she nudged him, as if to say, "happy to have you back."
