As Harlow sat there his mind slowly went blank before remembering about the chains that bound Sage's hands behind his back. The blonde haired man felt a pang of guilt for his lack of observational skills and simply stood up with a sigh. "Sorry about that." He murmured, not exactly elaborating knowing that Sage is aware about why he apologized in the first place. At this point Harlow was getting tired himself; achy calves from moving up and down stairs, his wounds stinging with every movement of his arm, the heat, and the wretched headache that's been creeping it's way into his head and resting behind his eyes, peering out. "What are you doing out here?" Alice questioned as she combed her fingers through her hair, eyes locked onto Harlow. Honestly, Harlow didn't even notice himself moving at a quick pace until he found himself looking at Alice. Apparently not only was the headache creeping up on him, it was also the exhaustion. Yikes. "I need the key for him." He said quietly wiping the beads of sweat off his forehead with his sleeve. "Him? As in-" The woman was cut off by a quiet and annoyed voice that sounded from Harlow, "Him as in Sage, the man who's bound in my quarters." There was a long pause between the two, causing Harlow to square onto Alice for a moment until she let out a defeated groan and reached into a small cloth bag that was tied around her waist, revealing a small silver key that looked unkempt and rusted. "This is the key that goes to those chains?" Asked Harlow, grabbing the key gently, eyeing the peice of metal with careful eyes. "Yes, Captain. That is the correct key." Alice replied before dipping her head and silently padded across the deck. The Captain strode slowly across the open area before reaching his quarters for the ninth time today, taking his time walking down the stairs. Without stopping he moved directly the Sage before pausing beside him, taking in the other man's appearance before moving to fiddle with the lock to the chain. It took a moment for Harlow to hear the satisfying click of the lock, announcing the partial freedom that Sage now had. "As I was saying. Is there any reasons for my Doctor's findings?" He said, voice raised ever so slightly as he moved away, not looking in his direction until he made it back to his seat in the far corner of the dimly lit room. |

Sage grunted in response to the captains apology, watching him move out of the room quickly. He could tell the man was wearing down...just as Sage was....though him leaving did confuse him a little bit. Did he not keep his own keys on himself? He'd noticed a keyring on his belt. Then again, he hadn't been the one to lock him up in the first place, so he supposed the girl would have it. That thought pulled a scoff past his lips. He was glad the captain would be taking those from her. The captain reappeared a few moments later, this time with an old key in hand. He let him approach, not making a move to fight him on this or really do anything besides pull his hands in front of him and run his wrists, which had been chaffed by the metal cuffs. "Thank you," he noted softly after a moment, readjusting his hair, which had mostly fallen down, and then reaching for the food and drink. He took a few bits of the meal and a drink before responding to Harlow, a shrug of his shoulders the start of the response. "I was bred. In a lab. My mother was a sea nymph, my father was human," he noted. "I'm plenty human enough....but I can tell coordinates on the sea anywhere and small atuff like that," he added. He wasn't sure why he was being honest with this man...but hopefully it was a whacky enough answer he'd believe he was telling the truth. "That's why I'm out here....can't go on land for too long without getting sick," he explained, wrinkling his nose slightly as he finished the meal, setting the plate down on the floor and leaning against the bed frame. |

Harlow listened to Sage with a calm expression and closed eyes, taking in the information that he was given without a hassle, which he found somewhat strange and relieving. "Interesting.." He mumbled, lost in thought as he attempted to answer his own questions that spawned in his head. What was the purpose of the so called 'experiment'? Who was in charge of the operation? Where was the laboratory located? Was is somewhere in plain sight or was in hidden? The more questions he asked himself, the less they made sense, same goes for his self explained answers. Harlow waited for a moment Prior to him speaking, "You are really a strange person, aren't you?" His tone was partially teasing as he also attempted to keep his somewhat professional character, but it failed. Underneath Harlow's slight calmness he didn't know what to do with Sage, as in, he didn't quite want the rest of the crew to find out about this. One of the very few secrets that Harlow as purposely kept away from everyone else.. |

Sage wasn't sure what to do with the captains comment. 'interesting' didn't give him much to work with. He could tell he had more questions, but he probably wouldn't be able to answer most of them. "Don't have much information about the lab," he noted. "Killed everyone when I escaped," he admitted. It hasn't been super smart of him....but they'd treated him horribly for his entire childhood, and he'd finally gotten tired of it. But he was afraid of them, so killing them from far away was the best option, and what he'd opted for. He hadn't wanted to meet them face to face. Though, the other captains comment pulled him from his meal again, and he finished his last few bites, setting down the plate before answering. "Maybe," he noted with a shrug, flopping back against the bed again, side stinging and head throbbing. "I've become what I needed to in order to survive," he said simply. Did he sometimes dream of having a normal life? A partner, lover, someone he could trust fully? Absolutely. Was that ever likely to happen? No, he'd never even come close. |

Harlow nodded slowly before speaking. "I'm sorry that you had to go through that.". He felt a slight ache deep within his chest, allowing him to flinch at the feeling. The sheer thought of something so... dreadful made Harlow livid, a roaring beast that strives to protect it's treasures, and yet, he was such a little thing and Sage's doings were already done, not forgotten nor forgiven, but a thing in the past. These last few moments with Sage hit closer to home than Harlow would've liked, not biologically, but emotionally. The man inhaled slowly and opened his mouth to speak before a knock sounded and filled the room, causing Harlow to shift and dip his head. With a groan and a failed attempt to lighten the mood, Harlow grabbed the now empty plate and moved up the staircase and breached the door. When he stepped out of his quarters the sun was nearly setting which got Harlow questioning how long he had really been down there talking to Sage. "Wow, your still alive?" Alice said teasingly pushing herself off the wall beside Harlow. "Indeed. It's rather hard to get rid of me." Harlow said with a smile, stepping off to the side, his eyes looking around at a clean and somewhat organized deck. "I'm sorry that I couldn't help much." He apologized softly, which earned him a loud obnoxious laugh from the smaller women. "Oh nonsense! Your hurt, plus, it's the least I can do." She answered, patting his shoulder before continuing, "Also, since we won a epic battle, can we celebrate?". There was a long moment of silence before Harlow sighed and put a finger on his temple. "Oh for crying out loud... Yes." His confirmation was followed by a small appreciative laugh from Alice as she walked away. "Try not to get too loud, please?" Harlow added, which she nodded as she continued walking. "I swear I spoil them a bit too much." Harlow murmured under his breath. |

Sage scoffed at the mans comment, sort of just shaking his head. "I don't need your pity," he noted. He didn't need anyone's pity. He was plenty strong enough to survive on his own....his escape and actions proved that. Really, he could have killed this captain a hundred times over by now, if he'd wanted to. But for whatever reason...he found himself not really wanting to. Even if this man had technically captured him, he was treating him well. Food, water, and he was now unchained and loose in his cabin. He sort of shrugged when he left, moving to haul himself up with a wince, grabbing his side that had been wounded worse that his other injuries. He moved to flop onto the bed and lounge there, closing his eyes wearily. It would probably annoy the other guy....at the very least he wouldn't get his bed for a few hours. Sage passed out pretty quickly once he was laying down. He hadn't quite meant to, but he supposed it didn't really matter. If he was woken by a furious captain, oh well. He needed the rest. He had hoped to delay his own test to when the other man was gone, or asleep. To not show weakness. But chaining sage back up while he was asleep or gone for long was the only smart thing to do, and it wasn't very comfortable for the person chained up. So he figured he'd rest on the end while he had a chance. Plus, it showed that he wasn't afraid of the other man and considered them equals in power despite technically being captured by him. |

(I'm sorry for the long silence, Art and writers block is brutal) . Harlow lounged about, aimlessly moving around the deck, ensuring that everything that was needed was within reach. Everything was. The man sighed and held a hand to his forehead, holding it there for a long moment as if he were deep in thought. "What's wrong?" A deep gravelly voice rang. Harlow jumped at the sound before turning his head slightly, finally seeing the navigator standing a stride behind him, a small metal bottle in his grasp. "Nothing-" Harlow began, only to be cut off by the other, "Bull, there's something bothering you." The man chuffed, only making Harlow shrink slightly. "I promise, there's nothing wrong." The captain murmured. "I'm not falling for that, so spill." The burly man said, his hand falling onto Harlow's shoulder, half comforting, half stern. Harlow shook his head dismissively and smacked the hand off his shoulder before speaking, his tone taut, "There's nothing wrong. But I'll be more than happy to have a conversation with you While you steer the ship." He emphasized the end of his sentence due to the obvious lack of navigation. How could he steer when he's at the other end of the main deck? The two walked side-by-side, speaking of nonsense and past events and experiences, though, Harlow wasn't.. exactly all there. His eyes, once in a while, would snake their way towards the door of his quarters before regaining their focus on the navigator. He shifted his weight uncomfortably as he stood and spoke. |

(Yeah, I get that lol. No worries! Sage wasn't quite sure how long he slept for, but when he woke up he felt pretty rested, so it must have been a while. A few good hours, at least. He hadn't been woken up, which meant the other captain hadn't been back yet. Maybe that was a good thing ....he didn't want to let on how badly he'd been injured. Sure, the doctor had taken care of it, but it still hurt, and it was still a rather deep cut. He wanted to seem cocky, and taking a nap on the others bed was definitely just that, but he supposed actually falling asleep hadn't been on his bucket list. He sat up with a groan, running his hands over his face to try and wake up a bit. Eventually, he sighed and slid off the bed, moving around the room to poke around at stuff. Looking around at his possessions would tell him plenty about this other captain. He sat down in his chair after wandering around for a bit, rummaging through his desk and then once he found some papers he sat back, propped his feet up on the desk, and peered through them. That was how the other captain found him when he finally came back, a cigarette held loosely in one hand. He'd had a pack in his boot, and Harlow had a working lighter so ....he hadn't heasitated to light one. He sort of blew the puff of smoke out of his mouth and threw Harlow a look when he caught him standing there staring, raising an eyebrow slightly. "If you want to stand there and gawk, at least close the door," he commented casually, as if nothing in the world was wrong, tossing the stack of papers he held back on the desk, next to his feet. "You'd think being captain you wouldn't be so boring," he added, slightly disappointed he hadn't uncovered any secrets or plans or anything. He was rather bored in here. |
