The girl shrugged slightly at his question. She'd probably just get a job out in the village... she lived fine in the castle, but it didn't pay much... not more than any other job out in the village. She was just lucky that the castle gave her food and somewhere to stay. "You like working with him - I mean your dad, though don't you," she teased with a bit of a giggle. "I did think of that... but there aren't many patients at the moment. They'll all be gone in a couple of weeks, then I'd be out of anything to do anyway." She really did need work to do... or she'd just be bored. She just needed something to do. "The Queen isn't that bad. She actually rather likes you," she hummed absentmindedly before giving a bit of a sigh. "I worked in a tavern a few years back - it wasn't bad but I don't think I'd go back," she murmured with a bit of a shrug. "I'd probably go work with my mother at a little bakery or something," she told him as looked back at the stack of dry dishes and started to put them back in the cupboards.

Sage hummed and nodded with a shrug. "There's always something to do around that man," he chuckled. Then he wrinkled his nose at the girl when she called the doctor his father, and raised an eyebrow when she said the queen liked him. "I rather doubt that," he hummed. "She barely ever glances in my direction, and when she does, it looks like she thinks her eyes are a gun." He shrugged slightly and chuckled dryly. "It sort of expected though....were on complete opposite sides of the social pyramid, and I've been rather blunt with her," he admitted. "The only reason she hasnt strung me up to a tree herself yet is because Anya would throw a fit," he hummed, sitting down in a chair. Then he nodded with a thoughtful hum. "If you tell them you worked in the castle until the raid anyone would probably take you." He found himself wishing the girl would stay...but he couldn't ask her that, and he'd still see her. He'd have the horses and the doctor, too.

The girl shrugged a little before shaking her head. "Or kill me for working with the queen," she mused lightly as she put the last of the plates away with a slightly thoughtful look on her face. "I was sorting her dresses out one day and she went on about how the street boy - who I'm assuming is you - saved her during the last raid. She seemed to admire it about you," the told him before looking back with a friendly smile. "She thinks more of you than you think, is all I'm saying," she hummed as she finished up. She had to admit, the princess was very spoilt... and she had her mother wrapped around her finger. The woman would very well jump off a cliff if she'd asked nicely enough, and everyone knew it. "I'll talk to the doctor. I just can't be left with nothing all of a sudden, is all," she hummed almost to herself before looking towards the door and beckoning him to follow along... they had surgery tables to clean.

Sage hummed thoughtfully and got up to follow the girl with a shrug. "Well I saved her and then she never talked to me again," he muttered. "which is fine...I don't really like her either, but I would have thought she'd loosen up a bit," he admitted. He shrugged and jogged a few steps to catch up and walk beside the girl. "Just takes a lot for me to see that," he hummed. "Though, the less I talk to people I don't trust the better, according to the doctor," he hummed. "Though personally I don't think I can get much worse." Then he wrinkled his nose and grunted. "Sorry...you probably don't want to hear about how screwed up my brain is," he muttered. The girl didn't need to hear him complain, she really didn't.

The girl shrugged slightly at him and offered a rather sweet-looking smile. "I don't mind," she hummed, "you can talk to me about whatever. I'll listen. You don't need to apologise for anything," the girl told him gently as she rested a friendly hand on his shoulder for a moment or so. It was true... she didn't mind. Him opening up was him becoming more comfortable around her, and that was all she wanted... and what the doctor wanted too, she supposed. She took her hand back and pouted in thought. "The doctor is very smart... but he's also very anti-social. He thinks not talking to anyone is the solution to all life issues," she mused with a small chuckle. "You'll never trust anyone if you don't talk to them," she reasoned as they reached the ward.

Sage gave the girl a thankful look but sighed and shook his head slightly. "Yeah, well, if I traumatize someone else by just talking to them, the old man will probably just lock me in a closet somewhere," he noted with amusement. "And you'd better get used to me apologizing a little," he murmured. "I do that a lot, thanks to dad." He wrinkled his nose then. "My actual dad, not the doctor," he noted. "the doctor would never hurt me intentionally." He chuckled slightly and shrugged. "I can talk to the horses," he protested with a chuckle. "I only talked to my sister for years. Well, her and customers in the tavern," he hummed, reaching for a rag to get damp to clean the tables. He tossed Mari one too, then, since he was closer to the bin of towels.

The girl caught the damp rag and gave a nod of thanks to him before starting to wipe it down. She raised a brow at him with a small chuckle when he said he could talk to horses... "You know what I mean. I mean... look at you and Anya. If you two had never spoken then you would have never started to trust her. Or the doctor, or Luther, or even..." she trailed off slightly before shaking her head. He didn't trust her, did he? She wasn't sure, so like of just let herself trail off. "What? You actually spoke to them, your customers?" She was a little surprised by that... she'd never had any particularly nice customers... not ones she'd talk to, so she was a little surprised about that.

Sage shrugged slightly. "If I hadn't met Anya then I'd be with Liz," he murmured after a moment. "There'd be nothing for me to miss, which would kind of be nice. I can't go and die now cause I'd feel bad leaving people." He wrinkled his nose slightly at her question and nodded. "unfortunately," he muttered. "It was usually just keeping them in line and keeping them from trying anything since they're all drunk." He scrubbed furiously at a stubborn stain, scowling slightly. "I had to work rooms too, which generally consisted of some talking, among other things," he grumbled. The girl wasn't judging him so far, so let's see what she thought of that. He'd said it without thinking, but then sort of cringed once it was out. He was terrified she'd hate him, and while his head said she wouldn't, he was still scared. Not that he'd tell her or let her know that, of course.

"Liz? That's your sister?" She asked with a slightly cocked head. Well... she didn't know what to think of that. The way she saw it, he would be in this position even if the girl was still here. She supposed Anya would have still taken the boy in, and his sister wouldn't have probably gone with him... and he probably would have stayed because that was what would be best for the younger girl. "You understand that you shouldn't want to die anyway..? Doesn't matter if you'd feel bad about it, you just shouldn't be feeling like that at all..." she supposed that was why the doctor was having him stay... the man had told her that it wasn't because his issues were physical... it was because of what was going on inside his head. She frowned slightly at the thought but looked up to him anyway. She definitely felt her stomach drop when he told her he worked in rooms... she more than knew what that was like. She quickly wiped down the table before noticing his rough scrubbing of the table. He just seemed to be getting worse with every second. She frowned and reached out to put a gentle hand on his to stop him shaking her he table and gave another little smile... though it was more of a comforting one than anything. "But you're okay? They didn't hurt you or..." she trailed off, not really knowing where she was going with that. Of course, a lot of what went on in the tavern was physical, and a lot of it would hurt... but it shouldn't have to be so scary, and she supposed that was kind of where she was going with that.

Sage half jumped when the girl touched his hand, which was a bit embarrassing, as always, and then shrugged slightly. "Liz was my sister," he hummed. Then he shrugged. "the food doctor says I shouldn't think or do a lot of things I think or do," he snorted, shaking his head slightly. He cocked his head slightly at the girl, not really sure how to answer her last question. "You do realize that everything is going to hurt working at that tavern, right?" He shrugged and looked down at his hands, which were clenched tightly around the towel. "or what? It couldn't have gotten any worse," he spat. "I've been there since I was twelve...I'm rather used to it," he sighed after a minute, not wanting to seem like he was snapping at the girl. He wasn't, he was just.... hurting, he supposed. The memories that came with talking about it weren't particularly pleasant.
