The girl waited about three hours before deciding that Sage wasn't coming back. She was tired now... it was only about seven, but she'd been up since at least six, and she'd have to be up early the next morning, too, to make sure everyone was alright. The doctor could do it, she knew that, but he only really dealt with the more serious stuff. She was a bit like a nurse really. Anything she did the patients could probably do for themselves... she just made their lives a bit easier. She poked her head through the doctor's door and gave a small wave. "Is Sage likely to come back or am I going to have to go find him? The food is still hot, but only just... and I can't very well have him take his meds without food. I can't take the tray home unless everyone has eaten," she huffed in complaint. Edited at January 26, 2023 12:20 PM by Belle

The doctor glanced over at the girl when she started talking, putting a pause on the things he was writing. He sighed and sat back in his chair, nodding as if that's what he expected. "He's probably down at the barn or in the garden somewhere," he hummed in thought. "He grew up outside so that's where you'll usually find him," he informed the girl. He chuckled slightly and looked back down at his notebook. "I'd check the paddock of that big black stallion," he noted with amusement. The girl had previously had a...less than great experience with the horse Sage liked, so he found it rather amusing that to go force the medicine down Sage's face, and food too he supposed, she'd have to go back to the horse and deal with it. Sage himself eventually started talking to Chaos, just sort of telling him about his day and occasionally complaining about this or that, or whatever else he thought to murmur to the horse. The stallion had eaten his feed by then, but wandered around grazing while sage lay there with his eyes closed. The horse kept an ear flicked back, listening to Sage's voice as he talked quietly.

Mari groaned when he mentioned the big black horse - in truth, she wasn't very good with any mind of an animal. She had one horse, and she was fine with that one, and she rather liked cats and dogs, but everything else was... a bit too much for her. Eventually, though, she turned away to cut a slightly smaller slive for the boy... he didn't look like he ate all that much, but if he wanted more he could come back and get some. She grabbed a small tray and put the small cup of pills on the tray, along with the plate and some water. She then forced herself down the stairs and towards the paddock... it didn't take long to see the horse, but she had to look a little harder to see Sage. Well, she heard him talking first, quietly, but she could still hear him nonetheless. She couldn't help the amused little smile as she walked up behind him, though she didn't dare enter the fence. "Sounds like a wonderful day you've had," she hummed lightly once she was standing just behind him. He was close enough to the fence, and she didn't think the horse had noticed her yet, so she felt... safe. "Food then meds. Sooner the better," she hummed quietly.

Sage was in the middle of complaining about how the stones had messed up the garden to the horse when he heard the girl's voice from the other side of the fence. He shot alright, both he and the horse whipping their heads around to stare at the girl in shocked silence for a moment before relaxing. The horse went back to grazing, and Sage let go of the horses mane, which he'd grabbed when the girl had spooked both of them. In reality, they'd have the exact same reaction...and it was rather amusing. He wrinkled his nose when she mentioned food and meds, though he knew he didn't really have much of a choice. "Do I have to eat," he huffed. "I usually don't," he complained. Of course, that may be why they made him feel gross after he took them sometimes, but he'd grown used to it. He gently steered the horse over towards the fence, and once he was next to the girl he told chaos to stop, and the stallion dropped his head to graze again. Not much had changed, except now he could reach the plate and cups of meds and water.

Mari gave a bit of a smile to the boy when they both flinched... really, they all jumped, but she did find it rather amusing that both Sage and the horse had the same reaction... it seemed like they both had the same expression and everything. She then nodded when he asked if he needed to eat, a slight look across her face than would have translated to 'really' if it was to be spoken. "You'll make yourself sick if you don't. And I made it so you're gonna eat it," she huffed, carefully climbing up onto the fence so that she didn't scare the horse again and offered him a small plate. "It's good, I promise." She told him with a soft sigh. Why couldn't he just go with what he was told? It'd make his life so much easier. "You only need to try a little bit," she added with another small smile.

Sage groaned and took the plate from the girl reluctantly, and sighed at her reprimand. "I got used to it," he huffed, but started nibbling at the food anyway. He had to admit it was really good... especially for him since he wasn't used to good food. But he also didn't really want to take forever, so after a moment he made a face and sighed before gulping down the rest of the food and taking all the pills at once before huffing again. "Happy now," he grumbled, though he wasn't really annoyed with the girl at all, which was a first. (It's short I'm out lol)

(No worries! Don't worry about length lol) The girl nodded slightly when the boy gave in and ate the food, and a small smile got a little wider on her face. "Very happy, thank you," she hummed and took the plate and the little cup from him and put it back on the tray. She had to admit, that was a little easier than she expected it to be. He could probably have been a lot more stubborn than he was, but she supposed that he was a bit more relaxed with this horse. She remembered the doctor said he liked it outside, that he was more comfortable out there than anything. She supposed he just had his guard up a little more when he was inside, which she understood to some extent. "Who's your friend?" She asked, cocking her head towards the horse... well, she'd had a run-in with the horse, but it was a less than stellar experiance.

Sage huffed out a breath when the girl said she was happy, though he wasn't really upset about anything, or even really annoyed, if he was being honest. Though, he felt a soft smile flicker at his lips when the girl mentioned who the horse was, and he looked down at the stallion fondly. "I named him Chaos," he chuckled. "He can be a bit ..chaotic," he hummed lightly. The stallion looked up at his name, and looked at the girl curiosly, chewing on the mouthful of grass he'd gotten from the lunch lawn.

The girl pouted when the horse went to look at her, and she really did expect him to go and push her off the fence or something... and she was visibly more relaxed when he put his head back down. "I take it he reflects whoever named him?" She glanced up at him with a bit of a teasing grin. She was tired now... it wasn't late or anything... but she had been up for a very long time. If she got to sleep soon then she'd be fresh enough for the next day. She briefly wondered if the queen would have her laid off while she was away... it would be a couple of months, or so she was told. She might have to pick up another job in the tavern again. It was in the upper villages, so it wasn't anything particularly awful... but it wasn't nice, either. But it would be safe to have something to fall back on. Of course, the doctor was having her help out, but to work for him was still less money than it was for the queen.

Sage snorted at the girl's comment and then shrugged, a kind of sheepish grin on his face. "Ask Anya or the doctor how much trouble I get myself into and they'll have a whole list, so I suppose so," he mused. Then he looked down at the stallion again. "Just seemed like a good name. He's hit the coloring and energy perfect for it, considering he's a little escape artist and always gets out of his pen." He poked the horse when he said the last part, directing his words in a fond chiding tone, talking more to the horse than the girl. The stallion raised his head again, and innocent look on his face as he turned his head to huff a breath on Sage's food and then look at the girl as if saying 'can you believe this guy?'.
