The only thing that had alerted the young woman of the princess leaving seemed to be the even higher irritability of the boy - she didn't even think they were friends, to be honest, nor that they got along. She'd only ever heard them either yelling at each other to the point of tears or cuddling up. There wasn't really any in between. Not that she'd seen, at least. It was like they were siblings - only, not quite. Whatever, it didn't seem to bother her all that much. In truth, not much did. She seemed to be quite a happy individual. She came from a good family, and she had a decent job that kept her well on her feet, even if she wasn't the biggest fan of the people she worked for. They still resided in the slums - but it was a nicer part of the area. Mari did seem to be the type that people seemed drawn to, and she did rather seem to like the attention. She was pretty - with bright green eyes and dark brown hair, with gently tanned skin - and she also seemed to know it. And she knew how to use it to her every advantage. Once she'd talked the ear off of the poor old man, she looked over to the dark-haired boy with a slightly cocked head. She couldn't quite wrap her head around why he was so inclined to work, but it was another person to win over. And that seemed to be the only person she couldn't get her claws around... mainly because she hadn't tried. Maybe that was why she went to sit down next to him, starting to wrap the bandages around her finger until it was all weaved around neatly. She didn't utter a single word - not yet. She wanted to know if he would speak first. If not, then she could pull something out of the blue he'd have to talk about. It was one thing to sit quietly... but it was a whole other thing to not reply when asked a friendly question like your name.

Sage glanced over at the girl briefly before going back to winding the bandages around and around and around, over and over again. He didn't speak, and to be honest he almost forgot the girl was there. She wasn't talking for once, which seemed odd. It seemed too quiet without her chatter. He didn'tond per say, but still. Either way, he supposed the girl wasn't doing anything wrong, so he didn't mind her there. She wasn't really bothering him. And she was helping. So he really couldn't complain. But he wasn't going to talk, he just didn't have the energy to come up with a conversation.

After about ten minutes of what the young woman would consider to be an awkward silence, she huffed out a breath and put the bandages down. "What was your name again?" She already knew the answer to that. Sage, she believed. She delivered his medication to him and saw him though the night most of the time, ready to jump into whatever task any of the patients may throw at her. It gave her something to do and she rather enjoyed it. She just didn't like the menial tasks like handing out medication... it just seemed so... boring. Still, she knew the names of most of the doctors patients. She liked talking to them, a lot, so they all seemed to know her name. "Mines Maria - Mari if you'd prefer it," she shrugged after a moment with the most charming smile she could conjure.

Sage grunted in response, gritting his teeth to keep himself from jumping and scattering all the bandages they'd just rolled when the girl spoke. "Sage," he finally muttered, after the doctor threw him a warning glance. He glared back at the doctor venomously, but the doctor wasn't budging. He huffed out a breath and ducked his head, going back to his task. His head snapped up when he heard the doctor get up and head for the door, and he couldn't help but yelp "where are you going" to the man. The doctors mouth twitched in a sort of amused smile at the boys reaction and shook his head. "Relax. She's not gonna bite," he told the boy as he walked out of the room. Sage stared after him for a moment before throwing a wary glance the girl's way and slowly starting to wrap bandages again.

Mari cocked her head when the boy jumped up, but kept on rolling bandages and putting the rolls into the trays anyway. She was, of course amused by the action, but tried to keep her muffled laughter to herself. Not that it worked. She definitely considered him weird for that - it most definitely wasn't a normal thing to do. He was acting like a weary dear - and like she was a hunter. "You don't know that I won't bite," she hummed lightly, though didn't look up again, instead contributed to wrap bandages around her fingers into small rolls. "I very well could," she hummed lightly, a smile resting on her lips. Soon enough, she'd finished the rolls on the tray and went to prepare a tray for the next day, the same thing, pretty much.

Sage just snorted in response to the girls attempts at a joke, kind of annoyed. Not just her...he was annoyed with the doctor too. And, well, he definitely didn't trust the girl quite yet. He set the tray to the side once he'd finished, and got to work on the next one. The doctor came in for a brief moment to get a pen, and reminded Sage to re wrap his own bandages. His wrists were definitely still not healed...and still required fresh bandages often in order to keep infection out. Once he'd finished that tray, he set to work redoing his own bandages, unwinding and rewinding the fabric. He'd keep working once he got this done, but if he didn't switch the doctor would have his head about it and make a fuss over him, which he didn't really want right then.

Mari rolled her eyes at the boys exasperated snort. God - he had to have something wrong with him. She was being nice enough. Actually, it almost annoyed her that the boy wasn't giving her anything to work with. He probably didn't want to talk... but she wasn't used to people actively trying to stop a conversation with her. Even the doctor would talk too her nicely, and she'd picked up on the fact he want too happy with a lot of people. She cocked her head when the doctor told the boy to come good bandages over, but simply commented that he should give them a bit of a cleaning first. After another ten minutes of silence she rolled her eyes and shook her head. "You're grumpy, you know. You have to be related to the old man somehow," she reasoned after a short while, a slight hint of mockery in her voice.

Sage rolled his eyes at the girl's joke, though he had to admit it wasnt half bad. Even if she was going to keep bugging him. Well, that was fine. He'd keep answering with short answers and grunts or scoffs...maybe she'd leave him alone. He lifted a shoulder in a shrug and muttered "nope" in response. He wasn't at all related the the old man, though the doctor had taken him under his wing a bit. He ignored the first part of her comment....that bit he couldn't argue with. The doctor wandered back in to rummage around in a box then, and while he was unraveling the bandages, a part of the scab had stuck to it, so he oulled that off with the bandage. It resulted in a sharp intake of breath and the start of a whole list of curses, but the doctor grunted "those words better not come out of your mouth," and he clenched his teeth together in an annoyed hiss, tossing the soiled bandages to the side and reaching for a new one, wiping the blood on his hand off on his pants legs.

The girl couldn't help the slight chuckle that escaped her when the older man told the boy to watch his mouth... you really would think that they were related, if she was to be honest. It was almost surprising that they weren't. the doctor did seem to like the boy, though, so she took it that Sage had turned into a type of son to him. She winced when the boy wiped the blood into his trousers and then reached for a bandage. She shook her head after a moment and took the bandaid off him before placing it back on the tray. "Don't you dare wrap that up without giving it a clean first," she told with after a moment before rolling her eyes and grabbing a small bowl that was sat on the little trolly and going to fill it with warm water. She then looked to the doctor with a pout. "Have you taught him nothing?" She asked with a slightly amused shake of the head before sitting back down and putting a cotton pad in the warm water. "I take it you can do this - or do you need a hand while you bite your tongue?" She asked with a slight huff.

Sage blinked in surprise when the girl reached over and plucked the bandage out of his hand. He was too surprised to even snap at the girl, and he only snapped back into reality when he noticed the doctor chuckling slightly. He scowled at the old man, who by then had put on a poker face. Sage huffed out a breath and looked back at the girl with a slight scowl still on his face and grabbed the content, muttering curses under his breath where the doctor couldn't understand him. The doctor heard him, and assumed when the boy was saying, but turned to the girl instead. "I've learned to pick my battles wisely," he muttered. "The boys more stubborn than my childhood mule," he snorted, though in an admittedly fond manner. Sage but his tongue, and then realized he was doing exactly what the girl had said he would do, so he huffed out an exasperated breath. Whatever, he wiped his wrist off quickly and then tossed the cotton back into the bowl, a slight smirk settling on his face when water splashed on the girl.
