Anya raised a brow at him, a slight smirk on her face. "Yeah, you need to sort the whole 'jumping into things' out. You're going to lose years of your life." The girl noted with a dim chuckle, rolling her eyes a little. "One day you're going to run into someone a lot stronger and faster than you, and when that happens it's not going to end well, and you have Lizzie to look after." She shrugged, pushing away from the tree and walking a small circle before landing on one opposite him. Really the only extreme violence she had come across in her years was when she would watch the guards while they trained. It seemed simple not to get involved in matters that would lead to something as extreme as death... but then again, what did she know? Despite their joking, though, Sage wasn't stupid. Surely he would know how much he could take when it came to his little brawls.

Sage shrugged. "True, but most of the people down here like to pull the whole bar fight punch. make themselves look all big and tough as they pull the whole arm back and try to clock me upside the head." He shook his head and grinned slightly. "Never do that, by the way. Punch straight and use your body to give you power, not your shoulder. Anyway, all I have to do is use one arm to block their sloppy punch and use the other one to bob em in the nose." He shrugged again. "Honestly, hitting someone in the nose is as effective as you want it to be. I can simply make their eyes water or give them a bloody nose to scare them off, or I can drive their nose bone into their brain and kill them with one hit. It all depends on a lot of different stuff." He chuckled again, saying "and the other five percent of the population give me a more fun fight. If I get killed I get killed. I'm not eager to let that happen but if I do die Lizzie can take care of herself for the most part. She's going to have to eventually."

Anya raised a brow at him as she cocked her head, a little concerned. She was fine with the whole getting into fight thing, it wasn't any of her business what he did when she wasn't around... but she didn't think he would have killed anyone. The boy hadn't said it outright, but it was somewhat implied. "You haven't killed anyone, though, have you, Tavern boy?" The girl murmured a little sheepishly as she glanced him up and down. Surprisingly, she didn't find herself worried. She had no reason to be. It wasn't like they were going to fight to the death with spoons any time soon. Anya looked thoughtful again before glancing towards the village, "How old is she? Lizzie?"

Sage shrugged. "I've killed plenty of people. But only if I have to. Usually I just knock them out, but sometimes people are just crazy and the only way to stop the fight is with someone dead." He made a face. "You get used to it after a while." He thought for a second. "She'd be eleven by now. She had her birthday last week, although we couldn't really do much for it. No parties out here. It's more of a congratulations you survived another year in this hellhole."

"Aw, poor thing," She murmured thoughtfully. Birthdays had always been a big thing for the families higher up. For her at least, they would have a parade. It was one of the few times she was allowed out - with excessive security, of course, but it was still a fun gathering, for everyone surrounding the castle. "I should have run into you sooner, I would have picked something up for you to give to her. No one deserves a shitty birthday." Anya grumbled thoughtlessly as she picked at her nails.

Sage shrugged. "She knows when her birthday is, so she's pretty happy. I let her buy something she wanted so she enjoyed it. And I spent some time with her. I took a half day of work." He shrugged. "It's thanks to you I can do that now," he pointed out. Sage didn't know when his birthday was, all he knew was that it was sometime in the spring. Probably March sometime, from what he had gotten from his mother. And obviously his father could care less.

Anya shrugged a little before glancing down. She knew the money was helping him, but that wasn't why she was paying him - it was rather for her good. She was sure if she begged enough her parents would give in and get her a proper guide... probably some old creepy historian or something, that would take her around all the nicer places. That would be enough, but she wanted to know what went on in the kingdom, and she wasn't likely to get that from someone of a higher class. They were both here to get something out of it, only Anya's reasoning wasn't as selfless as Sages. The girl glanced back up with a shallow smile, "Lizzie seems like the kind of kid to find the fun in everything." She noted with a soft chuckle. Even when they were stuck in the tavern, the child was more than happy to tease the two and run around pretending to be a knight.

Sage nodded and smiled, thinking about all of Lizzie's antics. "She really is. Even if I get hurt instead of worrying she tries to make me have fun and enjoy something instead. She's so positive and happy all the time." He frowned slightly, wondering how she did it. He was always worried and upset about something, and of course the negative emotions he hid from even Lizzie were always pressing at his brain. No one knew about the nightmares, or the flashbacks, or the other thoughts that he couldn't keep out of his brain.

Anya offered him a light smile. The poor girl couldn't have grown up in a particularly happy house hold. Maybe that was why she felt the need to be up so up beat... because she had to balance out the house hold. That or she knew that she was all Sage had. He had already said he most likely wouldn't still be here if not for Lizzie, so it made sense. It was really quite sweet. "She knows how much you mean to her. I'm sure you're her world too, so she most likely wants to pay you back some how. I guess she chose to do it by being happy for you." Anya shrugged, letting her thoughts spill out her mouth.

Sage stared at Anya for a second before making a thoughtful face. "Huh. I never thought about it that way." He scrunched his face up, wondering that was true or not. "I haven't really told her everything. I try to keep as much of the..less nice stuff away from her as possible. I mean, she doesn't even know half of the stuff I've told you. She's still so innocent...she doesn't really understand half of what I do tell her." He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, thinking. Wondering what all Lizzie really was thinking.
