Cats can be super smart too, a little harder to train but if you put in the effort you can train to not claw stuff, positive reinforcement and proper clawing toys, I'd rub catnip on any current scraching posts - its what I did with my old cats and it worked

He nodded, thinking. "That's a pretty decent job." He shrugged. He thought for a second. "I can transfer energy to it and see if you get less hungry," he suggested carefully. "If that's what it wants it might help, but I really don't know how this is all gonna work any more than you do."
