Once Anya had managed to finally drag the boy into the half-built cabin, she pretty much slid down a wall, still hugging Sage until she finally landed a soft thump... she'd taken Sage down with her, but only because at that point he's just let his head fall back onto her shoulder. He needed the rest... it would be good for him. He needed time to sort his breathing out, or he was never going to get better. It was so silent for a moment or so, other than the sound of Sage breathing... he sounded so ill... so feeble. And she was still trying to process everything that'd happened. The more she thought about it, the worse she felt... sicker, more useless... and god, she really was. She didn't know how to help Sage, and she could already feel her own body start to shake as everything started coming back to her. Still, the girl pulled him in, and tried to hold onto the boy... she couldn't do very much for his breathing, not the way he could for her, but she could at least try to make him feel safe... like he was being looked after.

Sage didn't mind it when the girl slid down the wall...he would have fallen over either way, so this just saved him a bit of dignity, if he even had any left by then. He felt the girl hug him closer to her chest, and he had to admit he did feel better being able to know he could trust the girl. There's wasn't much that could be done, but he knew she'd do what she could. He looked up at her face slightly, then nestled himself into a slightly more comfortable position and closed his eyes wearily. Maybe he should be sleeping, but he had been kept awake for...a while, and if he managed to wake up, rest would do him a whole lot of good. He patted the girls leg feebly, in an attempt to calm her nerves, at least a little bit. Let her know he wasn't going to give up and leave her here. It was awfully tempting to let himself slip away...Liz seemed so close...but he couldn't abandon Anya. Not here, and not now. He fell asleep pretty quickly, and after maybe half and hour or so, his breathing had evened out a bit. It was still fast and labored, but not so gaspy and jerky. Which was good, because it meant he was getting more oxygen in him, which would help...well, everything.

The girl barely noticed when Sage patted her, but she'd seen a slight movement... and it was definitely of a comfort. Her body was shaking, so almost tried to use him to keep herself still. The movement had slowly started to hurt, so having him as a type of stabilizer... definitely helped. He felt his slight movement to get comfortable before he went still again, though she could still hear his breathing. At least that meant he was still with her. She didn't want him to slip away... and the thought made her feel sick again. Everything made her feel sick. It'd gotten to the point where she didn't think she could hold him any tighter. She rested her cheek on his head just to get comfortable. To try ad let her mind go blank again. She couldn't sleep, not if she wanted to, because she wanted to be ready encase these men managed to track them down. They weren't going to touch her again... and she wouldn't let them lay another finger on Sage. He was with her because he wanted to look after her... but, well, right now she needed to be the one looking after him.

Sage slept for what was probably another couple of hours before his eye fluttered open and he shifted slightly as he looked around. His head was still foggy, and he still felt awful, but they were safe, so he couldn't really complain. He whined softly at the sudden pain in his head then, and turned his face so he was resting against her shoulder, closing his eyes again. He definitely had a nasty concussion...the light hurt way too much, and if he had anything in his stomach he would have thrown it all up by then. But, his breathing was better...not so hard and fast, not so painful. It was a considerable improvement from what he felt like before. He was really thirsty now, though, but they couldn't really go searching for water while they were here. They'd need food, too, somehow, but they had nothing.

Anya had pretty much zoned out by the time she felt Sage move, so she did jump a little bit at his movement. She gave a soft sigh when she realised it was just Sage... she didn't have to worry the way she was. She hadn't noticed when his breathing had calmed down either, but it was definitely a hell of a lot better. She thought so, at least. "Okay?" she asked the boy quietly, figuring that the sound of her voice might hurt a little. She ran her hand gently up and down his back, and her mind finally came back to her. She needed to get back home... both of them needed medical attention and the safety that the four walls provided. She needed to make sure her family were alright. That they were safe. She needed to know that the castle hadn't been overrun. She didn't know where they were, or how to get back... so it could be a matter of pointing in a direction and hoping for the best. They'd need food and water, and shelter as they went... and she wasn't as good at living it out the way Sage was.

Sage grunted and nodded when he heard the girl's voice sound in his ears. "Better," he murmured, reassuring the girl a bit. He sat back a bit but stayed near the girl and cocked his head as he looked up at her. "Why don't you get some rest and then we can try and find some food or water?" It would be a good idea to try and do that ..Anya needed rest too, not just him, so it really wouldn't be an issue if she slept for a bit. Besides, he kind of felt bad for having slept for so long while she stayed up. He was supposed to be protecting the girl, but right then she was the one doing the protecting. He didn't feel like he would be much help, for anything, other than slow her down. He felt his stomach churn at the thought, and blocked all of his thoughts out as he lay his head back down on the girls shoulder wearily. He could go back to sleep, but he could stay awake if he really needed to as well. Edited at January 13, 2023 11:23 AM by NightClan

Anya shook her head slightly and let her hands fall from his sides. "No," she whispered after a moment. "If these guys catch up I need to be able to get us out of here... neither of us are going back there," the girl noted with furrowed brows as she let her head fall back against the wall of rubble. She didn't need to explain anything more... he knew everything that'd gone on. "If I'm asleep and you're not fit enough to get out of the way, then there's no chance either of us will get away again..." the girl told him quietly.

Sage smiled softly at the girl's stubbornness but shook his head slightly. "Anya, you have to rest. If I hear anything nearby I'll wake you, but you can't get us out of here on no sleep either," he hummed. "being tired and making decisions like that don't mix well." He shrugged slightly and grinned. "Besides, I still have a knife they never took, so I can kill anyone who gets within throwing range anyway," he assured the girl. If she really didn't want to sleep, he wouldn't make her ....but it would be better if they both caught up on sleep. They could wait a while and rest before finding food and water. Rest was really the most important thing they needed right then, since they'd been fed and watered in the cell, or room, or wherever the heck they'd been kept. Besides, if the men hadn't found them yet, it would be a while before they came back, especially since the sun was starting to set.

Anya just furrowed her brows when the boy insisted on getting some rest. She really was tired... her shaking never really stopped, and it'd tired her out. "Fine," she whispered gently before sliding down again to get comfortable. "Promise you'll wake me up?" She asked quietly. She trusted him, she did... but she was frankly terrified of all this. She wanted to go home, and she didn't think they'd get out again if they were to get caught. By the sounds of things, the people were planning on sending them off, or selling them, or something... and she refused to be used the way they had again. The further away they could get, the better.

Sage smiled at the girl when she agreed and sat up with his shoulder resting lightly against the wall. He wasn't going to press his back against it, since the men seemed to enjoy using the whip, and his back hurt when pressed against something. But Anya didn't need to know that...he probably looked bad enough already, so there was no need to worry her more. "Promise," he hummed. He was worried ...their circumstances were...well, not good. And he wasn't sure who knew they were gone. No doubt the king and queen would be looking for Anya, as would Luther, if they were alive. But what if they weren't? What if they'd all died? And little Att...had he saved him from dying on the streets only to get killed in a castle, at a time where he'd be fully aware of what was happening? What had the boy seen? He could be scarred for life. No, he had to stop thinking or he'd drive himself crazy. He looked over at Anya, trying to focus on her rather than other things. Though, he did have to figure out a way to find food and water. Especially water...they'd need it to keep going. There must be a village nearby if this little barn was here...but he just didn't know. He hadn't been aware of any surroundings as they came here.
