Gale's fingers dug into the board, leaving little crescent shaped marks as her words anchored him. He nodded, clenching his jaw hard enough he thought it would crack.

The pain eventually dragged him under, his body going slack as the healers finally got some peace to try and salvage the raw slab otherwise known as his back.

Kayl gently laid him down on a cot as the healers finished. She sat beside him, holding his hand

Kayla stoked his cheek gently as the healers offered to help her next. She didn't feel safe so she shook her head
