Anya considered it. She did enjoy messing about with the knives the night before. They could walk over there and see if there was anything to do on the way, if not. Maybe there would be some music or something on in one of the bars. There were plenty around - and most were filled with life, and Anya was kind of hungry anyway. The idea of shooting a gun was fun too - only, if she went home smelling of gun powder, her mother would quite literally kill her. It wouldn't matter how many times she would bathe, the stuff just never came off. She was risking quite a bit with the knife the way it was, not being overly 'lady like' and all. The girl jumped at the sound of stone on stone, whipping her head around to see where it had come from. He wasn't kidding. He was quite literally treated like vermin by these people. Sage had just been standing with her, and this woman just appeared with a handful of pebbles just to chuck at him. Granted his jabbing at the woman didn't help his case, but still, he had done nothing, and all Anya could do was glare at her. It seemed as though she were invisible. Could the woman not see they were trying to have a conversation? Though Anya couldn't bring herself to say such a thing, instead, she just looked to Sage with furrowed brows and a frown.

Sage put up with the rocks being thrown for a few more seconds until the lady had ran out of pebbles. He kept the same bored yet slightly annoyed face on despite the stinging pain in his shoulder and a spot on his side she had hit. "Are you done yet," he muttered. The woman flushed and apat on the ground, yelling "the rocks laying on the ground are too good for me to throw at you, rat" before stomping off. Sage watched her go, thinking. "Huh. Usually it's stinking eat. I think she's warming up to me," he half joked. "come on, we can walk and talk. I want to get out of here before someone else comes along and accidentally hits you with something." He put his hands in his pants pockets and started walking back the way they came, eyes moving around as he scanned the area even more than before. He was really on edge now, and while those rocks were small, there were others who would find bigger ones, ones that could easily break a rib or leg if they hit him right. Heck, they could kill him with some of the rocks that they threw if he was hit on the head or neck. He'd been given concussions before and wasn't eager to get himself hurt anymore than he was. The wounds on his torso were worse than he'd told Anya and Lizzie ... They would take a while to heal and while he didn't need to stitch his side up, it had come pretty close to it. Anya nodded quietly as she started walking. She felt awful for not being able to do anything for him. Even if she was brave enough to say something, it would most likely have just made matters worse. At the same time, Sage was a big boy and if he really needed to stop it, she was sure he would have. The girl sighed and turned to him, "She got you a few times, even with that awful aim. You're all good though?" She asked with a slightly tilted head. He made it sound like it was the same person who did this a lot. She just appeared out of the blue, almost like she was specifically looking for him. The thought amused Anya, to say the least. "I was thinking we go to these targets you were talking about, though, lets try not to shoot any guns while we're out though. I'm quite sure if my mother finds out she'll kill me. If we see something interesting on the way then I'm sure we could make a detour." She shrugged.

Sage giggled and nodded. "We can toss knives around like dumb teenagers," he joked. Then he scrunched his face up. "I'll be fine. It might make the bruises from last night worse but she kinda sucks at throwing stuff so she didn't hit hard. And the rocks were pretty small too." He walked along for a moment, thinking. It was still quite a long walk back to the town, then plus going through the forest. He turned slightly until they got to a small farm with a horse in a yard tied to a pole. "You ride? I borrow this girl from time to time. The owner doesn't care...she comes back once I tell her to go home and she grazes until I let her go so she's eating stuff he doesn't have to pay for " they were back in a more poor part of the higher up class. He kept good care of the horse, but wasn't rich. "Well have to ride double though," he muttered to her as he patted the horse on its neck and the tall bay turned and nuzzled him gently with a soft huff of air as a greeting.

Anya gave the boy a smirk, "Well, isn't that exactly what we are? Dumb teens?" She asked with a soft chuckle as she followed him curiously. When they turned a corner, she raised a brow. "Of course I ride," She murmured putting on a teasingly offended voice. She did, only the horses she was allowed to ride were somewhat... dopey is probably the best way to put it. Well-behaved beasts that would make anyone look like they could ride. She had never ridden double though. It would be an odd sensation, not being in control over where the mare was going. She gave him a shallow nod in agreement. If it meant getting there quicker, she was all for it. She trusted Sage enough to look after the both of them until they got yo th woodlands.

Sage laughed and gave her a crooked grin. "But of course we are. You're probably looking at the dumbest one out there too in terms of a few things." It was true, he did some dumb stuff. Like tormenting the higher up poor people towns just for the sake of it. He undid the horse's halter before letting it drop to the ground as he hopped up onto the tall stallion. He offered a hand out to Anya to give her a hand up - it was a tall horse after all, and she was in a skirt, which made it a bit more difficult. He wondered if she had ever ridden without tack before, as he normally did, and then shook off the thought. Probably not - she would have the good tack and most likely a well trained horse. The one they were riding now was already shifting his weight, prancing almost in place as he became eager to run. Sage kept him in control though, despite his obvious want to run since he was generally tied up all day, only able to go as far as the lead rope would allow.

Anya gave a tilted head when she neglected to bring tack out. Not even a bridle. Was he planning to ride all the way with just his legs and a head collar? Surely not. Though, she was proved quite wrong when he hopped on without any of such. Sage better be a damn good rider, otherwise, she'd use the tail of them both going flying to torment him... maybe forever. She took his hand and swung a leg up, trying to get a comfy side saddle before swinging the other one over and riding normally. She had only ever been taught side saddle, but she felt like it would be easier to hold on if things went wrong normally. The girl gently grabbed the back of his shirt for stability before replying to him, "Yeah, you seem dumb in more than a few ways," she teased quietly. She had never been nervous to ride before. This was a horse she had just met, hopped on in a pair, and to add to that it was bareback. Not only that, but she wasn't sure if Sage had been taught to ride - she would just have to have faith. Well, as much faith as one could have, "Justs so you know," She grumbled into his ear, "If either of us come off... You're never living it down," She teased lightly.

Sage laughed lightly and looked over his shoulder at her. "Oh, don't worry. Jupiter here is fine once he gets going. He's smart." He chuckled and patted the horse. "Maybe he's the one who stole all my common sense," he joked as he nudged the horse forward with his feet slightly. All it took was a small nudge and the horse sprang forward eagerly and dropped into a smooth but relatively fast paced canter that was actually incredably comfortable. Sage hadn't technically been taught to ride, but he did know how. Mainly because he had figured out what worked and what got him bucked off over time. But he had worked with Jupiter for over three years and they had developed quite a bond over that time as the stallion's owner was elderly and didn't do much with him. Sage suddenly felt tiny compared to Anya. He may have been taller, but the difference in the actual size of their torsos seemed...almost extreme. Everyone he was near in town was just as skinny and bony as he was, but Anya was well fed and of average build. And yet his waist was almost half the size of hers and while his shoulders were wider than hers, it still seemed as though she was much sturdier than him, even though he knew he was plenty strong himself. The only reason he didn't look starved was because of the layers of muscle over his bones he had gained working at the tavern and fighting.

Anya jerked forward a little when the horse took a leap into a canter, bashing her head against Sage's back. She cursed herself and mumbled an apology before relaxing a little and wrapping a single arm halfway around him to keep herself steady encase of another needless burst of speed. Anya had never really noticed how thin the boy was. Her own frame was on the slightly smaller side, and yet he seemed so fragile to her. Given, that he was covered in muscle, and his scars proved he was quite the opposite, Anya couldn't help but feel awful. Next to the other village folks, the boy looked completely normal. Was it like this all over? Was money really so tight? And to think the castle was wasting it all on balls for the rich and fancy gowns for the royals. They wasted so much of everything when they really should be putting it towards the people they were meant to be looking after. What was a kingdom without its people? If the king couldn't look after the largest population of his people - the ones in the slums - then there really wasn't too much hope. Anya didn't particularly like being a royal - but she could make a difference when the time came. To make a change though, she actually needed a kingdom with people who put their trust and respect in their leader. None really did respect the king, and they weren't particularly impressed that some spoilt princess they had barely ever seen would be taking over once he went. A lot of people weren't happy that there wasn't a prince in the first place, so her coming into power was likely to spark up quite a few debates - well, there were most likely to be full-on fights against the throne. Anya slipped the other arm around the boy as they went back to a trot, finding the large paces of the stallion a pain to sit to. (Sorry, this one is kinda babbly. I need to get myself to bed soon lol) Edited at August 4, 2022 08:02 PM by Belle

(lol me too, it's about time to sleep XDD) Sage chuckled slightly when she apologized, as she didn't really need to. He didn't mind when she wrapped her arms around him...it was actually kind of nice since it was just a friendly touch. A kind of touch that was gentle and not at all hurtful or threatening....something he wasn't used to. The stallion's large, bouncy strides were a bit uncomfortable at the trot so he slowed the horse down to a walk, which was easier to ride bareback and they could talk if Anya wanted to - the wind was no longer blowing through their ears. He patted Jupiter on the neck lightly and murmured a few soft words of praise to the horse, who tossed his head and let out a snort as if to say 'I know I'm a good boy, tiny human'. Sage smiled softly down at the horse, quite familiar with his antics. He looked up at the stars and the rest of the night sky. It was peaceful out here, with Anya, and that wasn't something he could often say. He found the slight tightness in his neck and shoulders that he always kept, as he always had to be on edge, on the lookout for dangers, slide away. He didn't know why he trusted Anya so much, they barely knew each other. But he felt he could trust her with his life, which technically is what was at risk if they got caught.
