Void - there are definitely still places in medicine where the root cause is addressed. I was referring to for example, someone having a mental health issue (not one where they have a predisposed genetic factor of course, that requires medication) and rather than trying to figure out what’s causing them to have imbalances and addressing the underlying issue, band-aiding with something that masks over the issue itself and makes it feel as if it was gone, but later realizing the core problem still presides.

let me ask--are you thinking of going to college, and think you need to pick a specific specialty or study to be good at it? because it's completely valid and even a very good thing for many people not to immediately go into school, and to just learn to navigate the "real" world and see if you find something that speaks to you. yes it can make it more difficult to go to school in some cases, but it can also offer a lot more maturity and experience to bring to a schooling scenario when you know you really want to do something

zrek - that's certainly a risk, of course, but all the therapists I've worked with I've been very lucky to have ones who deeply, genuinely care for the wellbeing of their patients, and make the system better as much they can from the inside. without good people in the systems, the systems will only ever be "bad"

...Although, in some cases, fixing the symptoms is literally just a matter of yeeting medicine at someone's head lmao because no therapy in the world is going to correct neurotransmitter issues

O_o no? That definitely doesn't align with medical practice since to 'fix the symptoms' it requires going to the root cause. It's why cognitive behavior therapy is one of the most popular types

Eve - I’ve thought about therapy but then considered the way clinics operate. I feel like I wouldn’t be able to help people because I’d be operating under the systems of the masses - once again instructed to only fix the symptoms and only use specific knowledge. Maybe if it was my own clinic. I just feel like it has a lot of the same corruption as medicine.

zrek - (lol yeah not surprised); even if it's not fixing society, it means the world to the person whose world you touch. and those butterfly effect ripples make all the difference in the end, even if we can't see the impacts and results

Social work can be many different things. You could work for a shelter, such a case manager/social worker. Counseling, Resident Support. Or you could get more into the medical field. My sister is a psychologist at a hospital. She did social work before that. She has a masters in psychology.

Gladius - (autocorrect wants to call you Gladys) thank you, it’s difficult not to treat it as if I am committing to my life’s work - the intensity of it all seems to make it that way. Sometimes I feel like even when I’m trying to do good in the spheres I know I’m only fixing the symptoms of a broken society rather than fixing it at the source. It’s rather draining and makes things feel hopeless. I hope things can change for the better faster than I assume.

honestly the most important thing: do good in the spheres you're part of now, where you have power and control to. we aren't all going to make massive change, but together we can get there with multitudes of little changes

"Thanks." She smiled, talking a step closer to him and getting on her tiptoes to give him a light kiss. "Go get Monty tacked up, then we can leave." She said, pulling her hand away from him and quickly haltering Lucifer, pulling him out of his stall and giving him a quick groom, then throwing his tack on easily. She held his reins, waiting for Kennedy.

oooo love the new avatar and banner!)
He leaned over slightly so that Mercy could give him a kiss easier before smiling "Alright I'll be back in a few minutes" He said softly to her before turning around and heading further down the stable to where Monty was. He pulled Monty out of the stall, gave him a quick brush down, then tacked him up quickly but lightly to not hurt him. Kennedy put the bridle on Monty then lead him back down the stables to where Mercy was waiting "Are you ready?" He asked while walking up

Thanks!))
"Yep!" She grinned at him, leading Lucifer out of the barn. She held her reins and the front of her saddle in one hand, the back of the saddle in the other. She couldn't reach her foot to the stirrup from the ground, so she jumped, pulling herself up and catching her stirrup as she did so. She settled in her saddle, rolling her shoulders. "It never does get any easier." She ran a hand down Lucifer's neck, looking back at Kennedy. "I was thinking we could go for a stroll around the village, maybe do a bit of a run in some of the fields near there."

He followed at a distance, out of the barn with Mercy. He watched he mount first and held back a small chuckle at her struggle. When she finally got up he put one hand at the front and the other hand at the back of the saddle, along with a foot in the stirrup and easily lifted himself up and onto the saddle. He settled onto it while giving Monty a pat "Sounds like fun.." He said then paused while getting Monty beside Lucifer "Race you!" He beamed with a small smirk then suddenly urged Monty into a gallop

"Hey!" She giggled, urging Lucifer onward. The stallion lunged after Monty, taking a bit to catch up. She rode even with him until they got to the village, slowing Lucifer down to a walk, panting slightly.

He laughed at her shout as he heard Lucier catching up, when they got beside them he looked over and smiled at Mercy. He slowed Monty down to a walk as wel lonce they reached the village, Monty was already puffing out loud breaths of air but still had tons of energy left

"Well, that was an interesting way to start us off." She chuckled, looking around at the sparsely populated village. A few people waved at her, and she waved back. "I like this place. Its very... welcoming."

"It definitely was" He chuckled in reply to her as he urged Monty to stayby Lucifers side. Kennedy looked around the village smiling at the few people he knew before looking back at Mercy "Mhm it is, the people here are friendly.. for the most part"

"For the most part?" She raised her eyebrows at him, glancing over. "What does that mean?" She asked curiously, stroking Lucifer's neck again as he continued to make his way toward the village square. A few people were staring, maybe because they recognized her, maybe because of her striking horse, maybe because they thought she was pretty. But they were most definitely attracting attention.

Kennedy shrugged his shoulders slightly "A good handful of people here can be rude or snotty at times, but that's mostly shop keepers or men who think their better than everyone" He stated calmly while scanning the people who were obviously staring which he did not like at all. His face turned a bit sour looking as he looked out at the crowd it was mostly men or boys staring which got it blood boiling slightly
