Luther looked almost attacked when the doctor jumped on him for his help. He just squinted his eyes at the man as he slowly processed what he was saying before nodding and wandering over to the smaller boy and paced his hands on his shoulders. He hadn't realised how small he actually was the night before... Anya was right, he definitely wasn't in a good way. Luther was a pretty big guy, but he didn't think Anya was even as small as Sage was right now. He looked at the doctor for a couple of moments and all the tubes he had, before deciding they were scary looking and rested his head on the edge of the bed. "Why do you need me of all people," he complained with a bit of a groan. He wasn't planning on saying very much, but he had hoped that the boy would be awake so that he could apologise to him kicking him out... though, the boy had done it to himself. Luther might have been a bit over dramatic about it all, but it shouldn't have been happening anyway.

The doctor chuckled slightly and held up all the tubes with a slight grin at Luther's uneasiness. "Because I need to get something in his stomach and you're the person who can keep him still. He'll squirm but I can't put him under." He shrugged and started putting all the equipment together, and added "Anya might be too hesitant and Att's hardly a good candidate." By then the tubes were all put together, so the doctor wandered over to get into a position where he could easily guide the tube down Sage's throat. "Don't let him move his head or torso at all," he instructed. "I don't need him to tear any organs up right now, and goodness knows the boy will fight to his last breath," he grumbled. It was mostly to let Luther know how important keeping Sage still was, and partly because it was just the truth. He was right too, because as soon as the tube entered his body, sage jerked away from the touch, though the doctor steadied him and continued to do what needed to be done. The boy's raspy breath and attempts to move were normal, and he knew it was very unpleasant to have a tube shoved into his body, but they boy needed food, and he wasn't able to eat himself as of right then.

Luther just gave a bit of a nod of understanding before placing just a little of his weight on the boys shoulders to keep him steady once he started to struggle. He'd only really barely registered what the man had said, but he'd heard something to do with tearing his organs up and that was more than enough for him to get his job done. He couldn't watch though... it certainly wasn't a nice sight to see. He wondered what Sage was thinking as of then, or if it was just his instincts taking over. It was kind of scary to watch. Though, he supposed if it'd help them get some food into the boy it had to be a good thing. God knows that it was impossible to get the boy to eat when he was healthy... so it would be difficult to feed him while he was like... this, with or without the tube.

It really didn't take very long to get the job done, as shrunken ad Sage's stomach was. It did seem a bit more difficult for Luther than the doctor had intended...he hadn't expected the boy to get grossed out by some tubes. But he supposed it wasn't exactly nice to watch someone shove something into your friend either, especially when said friend was whipping themselves into a frenzy and making pained noises. Once the tubes were out, it was like a flip switched and sage went limp again, though his heart and breathing was still speeding. The doctor clapped Luther on the shoulder with a chuckle. "Good man. I hope you're ready to do this again in a few hours, for as many days as he's like this," he half chuckled before picking up the tubes and wandering away.

Luther held onto the boy for a couple moments after he went limp, kind of nervy that he'd start lashing around again. He gave the doctor a bit of a glare when he mentioned doing it a more later on. "Days? That long?" He groaned before shaking his head. "I was hoping to talk to him. I felt bad for chasing him out," he hummed before standing upright again. "I've got Att tomorrow so you might have to find someone else to hold him down," he noted with a bit of a chuckle. He was still a little confused as to why he agreed to take the boy back to the castle. Anya was just meant to go sit with him for a while, and now he was back in the castle. Whatever, the boy would only end up leaving again. He always did, and it wasn't like there was much space left in the castle for the likes of him.

The doctor poked his head back into the room once he'd put the tubes away and raised an eyebrow. "Chased him out? So that's what happened," he muttered. Then he shrugged. "Well, I can't guarantee he'll be up anytime soon, but I suppose if he does wake up, I'll send someone for ya," he told the boy, rubbing his hand along the scruffle on his chin. "I'm sure someone else will watch Att for a few minutes," he chirped to the boy, pretty much demanding his help before slipping away again to clean the tubes up for later.

Luther just stared blankly at the doctor, trying to think of a way to get out of helping him. It didn't take very long, but he didn't exactly enjoy watching him shove tubes down another person. "Fine," he sighed, "just as long as it doesn't take all too long. I have things to do," he complained with a huff. He wrinkled his nose after a bit before letting out a type of regretful sigh. "Yeah, pretty much." He hadn't meant to come across so horribly when he'd seen the two of them... but it was kind of just instinct. He felt like he had to protect Anya, and he'd felt like she was safe with Sage up until that moment. Like he had nothing to worry about. She didn't look at all scared though. Maybe the smile on her face had upset him that day more than anything. The smile that they'd both had. So genuine and joyful... he almost felt a little bit betrayed by Anya, and by Sage for not at least telling him.

The doctor grunted from where he was standing over by the sink, scrubbing tubes out. "Well, did the two of you try to talk it out, or did you hot-headed buffoons start yelling right away," he asked the boy, knowing it was probably the latter of the two options. "Now, I'm no psychologist but I do know that neither of you have very many good friends, except for each other." He grunted as he lifted the bucket full of now clean tubes. "I wouldn't let that get ruined," he told Luther before heading out the small door that separated the rooms from his office. Hopefully, Sage would wake up soon....Luther did need to apologize at some point, to at least get it off his chest. He sighed wearily, wishing he could do more for the boy than force feed him here and there and hope for the best.

Luther gave a slight sigh as he thought about what the doctor was saying. He did have a point, he supposed. They had been rather close beforehand... and it did seem strange for that all just to stop. But it had been so long, and really, he didn't have a clue if Sage would be willing to forgive him. He glanced back at the limp boy, the only signs of life that were still left being the rise and fall of his chest. Hell, he was in this position because of him. If it wasn't for Luther, he might still be healthy and well, and not in such awful condition. He decided to stay for a little while. It was quiet in the ward, and his head still hurt, and that was better than having Att shouting in his ear every chance he could get. And, if Sage woke up at any point, he could make a quick apology before leaving again, until he was at least ready to face everyone. Even if the boy didn't wake up yet, it was still peaceful here.

The doctor was more than fine to let Luther stay there for a bit. If anything, it was helpful. Luther would alert him if anything changes with Sage's condition, so he could do other things without worrying about the boy so much. He did find it odd, though...last time the boy had been sick, Anya was here all the time with no sign of Luther. Now, the roles seemed to be reversed. He felt a bit bad for the boy...Anya had moved on, and whether it was willingly or not, Sage wasn't really a part of her life. The boy tended to cling to anyone who liked him...with good reason, but he wished things would have been able to work out between the teens. He'd never seen Anya so happy than when she could run around with the boy. He sighed, hoping he could see the boy run around again, hoping he could hear the boys familiar huff of complaint. For the first time, he wondered what it may have been like to have children. He shrugged...his children having days were long over, so there was no use thinking about it. (What if the doctor ends up kind of adopting Sage and Sage kinda helps out in the ward? Might keep him near Anya and whatnot longer once he'd better lol)
