The knights didn't part for her, kind've just backing slightly yet staying. Gale shot them a glare that said everything without any words, the group's faces paling slightly as they shoved eachother inside before his face softened again and he looked back at Selene. His hand intertwined in hers, something that was semi-automatic for him now. The man slowly nodded, flicking his gaze back out at the busy streets of the kingdom below them. Market stalls were set up at every wall, offering livestock, fabrics, yarns, weapons, food, seasonings, anything under the sun was available, with traders on every corner, and thieves scurrying their way between the crowds. "Yeah, doing better than I was, anyways." He chuckled lightly, pulse having dropped to a regular BPM and his breathing had steadied. "I will be better, though, now that your here. Speaking of, you okay? Look really mad.." Gale noted, cupping her face lightly and brushing her reddened cheek with his thumb before his hand slid back onto the cool, metal rail.

Selene had been unfazed by the guards, too irritated and worried to care about much else than his well being at the time. Besides, more often than not people never bothered to part ways for her. She had grown used to it, but she was more than thankful when Gale leveled a look that made them all leave. His hand locking with hers elicited a soft, calmer sigh from her, her gaze finding that of the city below as well. "Good.. I was really worried and then... then I couldn't get to you," she shook her head, just happy that he wasn't upset and that her presence soothed him just as his soothed her. Selene leaned her cheek into his touch for those brief moments and she shrugged a little before nudging against his side, getting close before answering. "I am mad.." she admitted, her eyes closing as she savored his scent and the soft sound of his breathing. "It was just a yelling match with my father about respect and such.. he's rather angry with me considering I left mid fight and shoved Celeste, but the only thing I could think about while in there with him was getting back to you," she explained, sounding more calm as time passed.

As she nudged against him, his arm relocated from the railing to around her waist, keeping her close as he listened, huffing a laugh at her explanation of why she was mad. "Now that's just nonsense, he treats you with no respect and expects you to give him respect? Crazy but I mean, can't really be saying anything. Don't even know who my father even is so, honestly kind've jealous of you." Gale chuckled, noting how much more calm she seemed. The daily hustle and bustle only rose in volume as a man darted through the streets, eight guards all chasing him. The knight watched the man, reckognizing who it was. "Jaden Ortiz, he's still a bandit? Thought we arrested him but, that was years ago." He murmured.

Selene nodded and chuckled, knowing how ridiculous it all sounded, but it was just years of tension and hate between them. "I'm used to it, I just don't like it when someone else is pulled into the mix. He got worse on his power trip after you left," she sighed, almost feeling bad for squandering her relationship with her father. She had tried for a while, he just made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with her unless they were arguing. Opening her eyes to watch the city again, she followed the path of the man with the guards chasing him, humming slightly. "It would seem so.. he finished out his sentence not too long ago, but I guess he's yet to learn his lesson. She remembered the name and when the man had first been arrested, and she was honestly surprised he had even been let out with all the trouble he caused before. "Do you miss chasing after hooligans like that?" She asked in a soft tease, titling her head up to look at him.

Gale half payed attention to what she was saying, while he was gazing down at her in awe as he studied her features and realized how grateful he was to be alive. He was caught off guard when she looked up at him and met his gaze, the man smiling slightly before casting his gaze back out, thinking of what she said. "Kinda, always fun at first but then after a while you get tired and it just sucks. But then you go and arrest them and remember you did something goo do, always pays out well mentally." He mused, tugging her just a smidge closer as he continued talking. "But then again, anything other than war is better so, yes, I definitely do miss it. Simple, easy, stress free, trauma free, and usually pain free. And~~you get to be close to your lover, instead of hundreds of miles and numerous kingdoms away."

Selene smiled a little wider when she caught that he'd been staring, her heart doing that weird beat skipping thing as it became her turn to study his features again. He had so many new scars, making him appear all the more rugged and handsome in her eyes. She chuckled softly in response to his words, nodding in understanding. "I get that.. Things were so much simpler then," she hummed, pressing into him further at his little tug. He could pull her however close that he wanted and she wouldn't even complain. She listened to him speak, a more bashful smile curving her lips as he mentioned getting to remain close to one's lover and such. "Well.. I certainly can't argue with that. There's nothing I'd prefer more than having the comfort of my most favorite person at my side each and every day.. and night. And now that you're home, perhaps you'll never have to leave again," she murmured, ever so hopeful that she'd be right. The war had lessened, yes, but it wasn't yet won, and that very fact still scared her even if her was stationed there rather than on the war front.

Gale listened to her words, but they faded as he felt her press against him. A smile crept onto his face, a joy gleeming in his eyes as he looked back out. "Hopefully, war's just about over. We have only four more invasions we've planned that should win it, though, still worried none of them will and it'll rage on for another ten years." He admitted, staring off into the distance before busying himself as to not leave his mind unoccupied. Recently the man had learned long as he was talking or fidgeting or even just talking nonsense in his head, the screams which came after a while faded easier and came less often, leaving him at peace for once.

Selene nodded, remaining silent as she thought about what that could mean for them. If they won those invasions, Gale could be safe at her side for years to come. If they failed? There was a chance he might not survive war a second time, and that soured on her stomach, inciting panic in her veins. She chewed at her bottom lip, staring out over the city as she fought not to over think things. The battle was going so good. They'd be fine. They'd be perfectly fine, they had to be. "I'm sure it'll all be fine.. You don't get to leave me a second time," she mused quietly before yawning, her sleeplessness slowly catching up to her as the morning went on.

Gale was worried sick about the invasions. What if the enemies killed too many men? What if he was one of the men who got killed? Then what? Selene would be left alone and forgotten, most likely married off to some random heir from another kingdom, just for the alliances. He noticed her yawn, him yawning as well. "Tired?" The man asked, smiling ever so slightly as it meant he'd most likely get to rest as well. Last night he hadn't slept very well, only because his dreams were riddled with the battlefield as though he'd never left, yet all the thoughts about the battles and fights and worries all somehow dissapeared once he saw Selene.

Selene wasn't sure what would happen to her is Gale died. Truthfully, she'd probably be shipped off far away to the highest bidder, doomed to live just as miserably without Gale as she would have at home. He was the only one for her, and she was certain she'd never be able to love or care for another like she did for him. Noticing his yawn, she smiled and nodded, wondering if he'd gotten anymore rest than she had. "Mmhm.. I don't really sleep anymore at night. I.. well.. it's been too hard to rest all alone.. Are you tired?," she admitted, not wanting to tell him that his possible death had plagued her dreams ever since he left. It helped to know he was home, but that fear still lingered with her with a mean grip on her soul. Edited at November 16, 2025 11:46 PM by Peachy Keen
