Anya tilted her head at him. He seemed so unfazed. He knew his father had killed his mom and yet, he was fine with it. Or, thats how it looked to her at least. "You say that like it doesn't bother you." She murmured with a breath, making her voice sound airy. "You talk about the both of them like you don't care, but that doesn't seem right," Anya blabbered out, "they're still your parents, awful or not." The girl looked at him with squinted eyes. She tried to convince herselt that was just how he was talking. She knew it had been hard for him over the years, and that having a drunken father and an absent mother hadn't helped, but surely he had some love for his deceased mother at least. Anya furrowed her brows at him, a smile tugging at her lips, "I just think that unless you're either the most hideous or gorgeous being in the world under there, covering up is going to make it seem like you're hiding something - other than your face, of course."

Sage thought for a minute. "Well, all I have of my dad is him hitting me and yelling, so no love there. At all. My mom... I don't know. I never respected her or really liked her because she irritated me to no end. And she was never really pleased to have a child, so I mostly did my own thing." He made a face. "Also I don't like to think about her because all I can see is her head splitting open when it hit the floor one too many times." Then he snorted. "My eyes are an odd color and I have a very noticeable scar down my eye and side of my face. If someone sees my face once they never forget it."

Anya winced as he spoke. Perhaps she had pryed a little too much. Her lips pursed into a line as she looked down. Had Sage been there when it happened? He said he saw it. Despite question brewing in her head, she forced herself to hold her tongue. She didn't need to know any more, and she suspected it wasn't a particularly pleasant time for the boy. She gurgled out a quiet appology in fear she had over stepped before looking at her lap, fiddling with her nails. It was an awful habit. She squinted her eyes at him, "really?" She asked with a tilted head. "You must have picked up enemies along the way for you to be hiding your face because of that." She grumbled, rolling her eyes at him teasingly. "Are you on the run or something?" She asked with a light chuckle.

Sage chuckled lightly and shook his head. "You don't have to apologize. If I told you something it's because i trust you enough to tell you. And it does help to talk about some of these things." He grinned. "I might be. You never know," he joked in a mysterious tone. He shrugged. "Technically everyone here except for Lizzie can be considered an enemy. Every one of them would probably kill me for food or warm clothes or something. If I hide my face, my noticeable or distinguishable features, fewer people recognize me. Which means less attention is drawn to me, which means I'm not the one that's often attacked." He got attacked often, but it was less than what it could be. "I'm not as big as a lot of people out there. In a fight, I rely heavily on surprise. If they recognize me that goes out the window. They know I can fight, and they know I can take a hit and stitch myself up...what then? They'll just bring more guys or do multiple rounds so I don't have time to fix injuries I might have gotten. Then I'm really dead," he explained.

Anya side eyes him slightly, "Sage, do I need to report you to someone?" She asked with a chuckle, "or are we still trying to keep up your Mr Mysterious act?" She asked with a tilted head, grinning at him. "And let me get this streight. You consider me and enemy?!" The girl squeaked in a mocking look of offence. She tried to understand what he was saying, but she just ended up looking like a lost dog. She just nodded along slowly, her brows furrowing. He said he would get in fights. Well, more of them if people could recognise him. She thought that at least was fair. "I suppose that makes sense." She shrugged, looking him up and down. He was right, Sage certainty wasn't as big as a lot of folks out here. If they had managed to attack him once and done well, then if they recognised him they would probably to the same. A small chucke arose from her throat as she looked at him, "you know, if I was out here I'd bet I would think of you as an easy target." She grinned thoughtfully, "how wrong id be." She noted with a soft chuckle.

Sage chuckled and nodded. "And that's why I keep myself un noticable." He grinned. "A lot of people think I'm small and starving so I'll be weak. They don't see my dagger and go for the attack, so when I attack back they never expect it." He tapped a finger against his lips, pretending to think. "Hmmm, do you have to send someone after me? I dunno, I doubt you see me as Mr. Mysterious by now," he responded in a playful tone. "you and Liz are the only two people I would trust to know what I look like with my hair back."

Anya wrinkled her nose at him playfully, "I said trying to keep up Mr. Mysterious." She pouted, "but you'd be right to think that. You've been pretty open with me." She shrugged thoughtfully. "I'll have to come up with another name for you then." She shrugged. She looked at him with a soft smile before ruffling his hair up. "You know, I don't think you should trust me." She noted thoughtfully, "I could just about be one of the most poweful people that you'll ever have a full conversation with, and you just spilled your guts to me." She teased with a grin.

Sage snickered. "Right. Absolutely. You could totally pull out that knife I gave you and stab me with it," he teased. He tried to take his mind off of the fact that her touch was gentle...Lizzie was the only one to touch him gently besides his mom, and his mom had been gone for a while. He had almost forgotten what it felt like. He was used to getting hit or kicked or even cut with a knife. He smiled at Anya and lifted a shoulder in a shrug. "Something in your eyes tells me I can trust you. Technically you are powerful, having one of the highest rankings, and you still treat Liz and I like people," he pointed out, and then blushed because sweet talk wasn't really his thing. Liz was right, he did get flustered really easy.

Anya looked at him with a wrinklwd nose, her chuckle filling the room, puttingna look of mockery on her face. "What, do you not think I have it in me?!" She crackled brightly, "I could so stab you." She hissed playfully. Well, that was another oddity to add to their list of the night. Seriously, it had been such a worlwind. She found herself dreading when she would have to leave. It really had been fun - the day in the castle would feel like a hell hole compared to this. Anya looked at him witg a soft smile. Was she expecred to be as rude and entitled as some other higherups around? She had dragged Sage into this, so the least she could do was treat him like a person. "Sage, thats awfully sweet of you, but I'm just being nice. I don't think you understand just how much it means to me that you're helping me out. I really cant thank you enough." Anya noted with a small smile, her cheeks heating up a little.

Sage grinned back at her. "And I could so fight back," he teased her. He shrugged awkwardly, not used to any form of praise. "Well, we're helping eachother out I guess. All I'm doing is showing you around town, whereas you've probably saved my life. And Lizzie's too." He could feel the blush in his cheeks growing steadily stronger as he spoke, and Lizzie watched them and giggled from the corner. "I'll give you two some privacy," she teased and went into the kitchen. Sage whipped his head around to protest, but she was already gone. "Sisters," he grumbled. Of course he still loves her, he wasn't mad or anything, but he could grumble all he wanted. She still annoyed him sometimes, even if it was slightly endearing.
