Anya squeaked as she was brought into a little dance. She went with it though, a childish giggle escaping her. They had spun a few times before her sight started spinning and she lost her balance, causing her to stumble a few steps back. She tripped on a chair leg and landed on her back with a thump. She looked a little shell-shocked before letting a grin over take her cheeks and hopping back to her feet before perching on a table as she waited for the world to stop spinning.

Lizzie bounded over to her and brushed some dirt off of Anya's shirt before running over to Sage and grabbing his hand and spinning him around. Sage yelped and spun around for a few minutes before falling backwards onto a chair near Anya. "Geez, Liz, do you not get dizzy," he groaned. She giggled and shook her head before grabbing a broom and spinning around with it

The girl rubbed her forehead quietly as she watched Lizzie. "God, watching her is making me dizzy." She chuckled quietly, turning her gaze towards the table so she had something to focus on. She had to admit she was a little envious of the little girl's energy. "And what an imagination." Anya sighed before looking toward Sage with a mocking look on her face, "She may look like you, but I doubt you were anything like that."

Sage laughed and shook his head. "You got that right. I never got a chance to act like that. I always had to work, and by her age mom was murdered and dad was a crazy alcoholic. I had to run the family and care for Lizzie, who at the time was a little over a year old." He let out a huge breath and shook his head to clear the dizziness away. "I don't know how she has so much energy though. I have energy just not like that, I'm quieter than she is." It was true, Lizzie had a happy energy, but Sage had more of a calm energy - you could tell he had plenty of it, even if he barely slept or ate. And even though he seemed calm, something was always moving, whether it was a finger or a foot or even a leg. You could tell that while he seemed calm and collected, his mind was working a mile a minute and he could become a dangerous weapon at any time, and he wasn't afraid to do so. He may be quiet, but he was the one you had to look out for...he wasn't the big buff guy who acted mad but was all bark and no bite. He had a bite, and it could very well be a deadly one.

Anya tilted her head at him with furrowed brows. "I'm sorry," She murmured quietly, "About your mom. You couldn't have been very old yourself. It must have been hard, no?" Anya noted quietly. She doubted they had found out who did it. He had said the guards didn't care about his people - the lower ranks very much. If such a thing happened in her world, say, if the queen had been murdered, the searching would never stop. Hundreds of people would have lost their heads even if they were a little suspicious. Her mother would have deserved no less. No one deserved to be forgotten - no matter their ranks. Hell, she'd hate to know what would happen if she herself went missing. The queen was one thing, but the heir... That was another thing. A kingdom didn't need a king and a queen. They could survive with one of the two. But without an heir, it would cause all sorts of issues. She glanced between Sage and Lizzie before smiling. "I can kind of see that. You seem like you could pop at any moment, whereas Lizzie..." She paused, looking at the girl with a chuckle, "Is always buzzing." Anya noted with a chuckle.

Sage shrugged. "People get murdered all the time, and the way she was I half expected to come home every day and find her corpse in the lawn somewhere." He sighed. "Everything here is hard...it just made my dad sink lower, really. I never got along well with my mom, but she wasn't mean. I just...I dunno. It's hard to form a relationship when you never know whether they'll be alive when you get home or not every day." He chuckled and nodded. "We look alike, but personality wise we're pretty different. She's always happy, always so carefree. I'm the exact opposite."

"What do you mean by the way she was?" She asked, lowering her voice a little so he knew it was optional. Sage had already spilled half his guts to her, so she didn't want to pry... Well, she did want to pry, but she would much rather have him relaxed with her. The more time she spent with the two of them, the more she felt like she was learning about her kingdom. Knowing about the lords of the land was one thing, but knowing about what happened in the slums... what really happened down there, was a completely different thing. She looked over at the boy, a small smile painted onto her face, "well, supposedly you look alike. All I can barely see your face most of the time." She chuckled, pointing to his dark mop of hair.

Sage chuckled and shrugged. "She had a temper. Probably where I got it from. But she never carried anything out. She'd yell, and piss people of, including higher ups because she wasn't the Brightest, but then once they turned on her she'd do the whole 'oh I'm so sorry I didn't realize' bullshit. All bark and no bite." He made a face. "no one really liked her. She drove my dad mad. They weren't married, they just lived together because I came along. Then there was one more mouth to feed, how lovely." He shrugged. "We both look a lot like her. I see her features in Liz all the time." He smiled softly and shrugged. "I hide behind my hair. I don't like to stand out in a crowd "

Anya shook her head slightly, giving a weary smile, "yeah, people like that annoy us," she grumbled, refuring to the higher ranks. "People tend to think we're stupid. Entitled, if you will, but we know when people are being dicks just because they can be." She wrinkled her nose, almost in disgust. She had had it happen a fair few times. Mainly when she was younger. People would talk all kind if crap until she was around; then they would be on their hands and knees for her. Though, it wasn't so bad after her mother took her out of the public eye. "But having a bark isnt bad thing per say. You need to be able to stand up for yourself without getting into fights - physical ones, at least. Anya scanned him for a moment, letting out a soft snicker, "You could argue its making you more noticable." Anya murmured, giving him a warm smile. Edited at August 1, 2022 06:16 PM by Belle

Sage shrugged and nodded. "She drove everyone crazy. If you're going to start a fight, you'd better be able to finish it. She couldn't do that." He made a face. "Ironically enough it was my dad who ended up killing her," he muttered. He looked at her and raised an eyebrow, though she couldn't really see it. "More noticable, you say? If you haven't seen my face how would you know," he teased. He didn't care if she saw his face, since he obviously trusted her, but the people in town didn't like him. The feeling was mutual, and if people visiting didn't notice anything particular about him, they wouldn't remember him. And that was how he wanted it. No one noticed or remembered him, no one could hurt him. People were always surprised he was as strong as he was since he was tall and thin. They didn't expect him to be so good at swordplay. Especially the higher ups, who assumed that because he never went to a school he was dumber than the pigs out back. Edited at August 1, 2022 06:29 PM by NightClan
