It felt awkward standing there, so, still holding her reassuringly, he slowly lowered them both to the ground. He rocked her a little, and started humming a tune he made up on the spot. It was a sad melody, but infused with hope.

Ben kept rocking her, humming and looking down at her tear-streaked face. He brushed away a lock of stray hair from her cheek without thinking. His eyes widened a little at his own action, but didn't stop humming. He looked at her face. Ben realized how pretty she was, and his heart gave a little stutter. Then, the truth that had been there, hiding under all his awkwardness and anxiety, dawned on him. Ignoring the rule he'd made and kept for all those years, he leaned down and pressed a kiss to Emma's forehead, lingering for a moment before pulling away again. He continued his humming, this time with a smile. The melody turned happy.

A small, very small, smile broke through Emma's thoughts. She looked up at him, eyes sparkling with wonder

Ben smiled down at her, eyes warm and bright, brighter than they'd been in a long time. He ended the song, eyes locked on hers. Then he felt a pang in his leg. He was sitting in an uncomfortable position, and he chuckled a little, helping Emma up and standing up himself. "Oof, sorry. Bad position."

Ben smiled. "Yeah, they're not the softest. Thanks! I'll move my stuff later. For now, I'm feeling like a movie would end the day perfectly." He said, looking towards the living room.
