"I love you too, baby"

Lorelei smiled, drifting off.

He did too

Lorelei slept soundly. Over the next few weeks, they kept trying, and she kept taking tests, but they all came back as negative. That morning, she had taken another one. She was waiting in the bathroom, door closed. When the timer went off, she took a deep breath, checking the test again. Negative. Lorelei deflated, so discouraged.

Kai had been sitting on the bed anxiously, waiting. When she didn't come out yet, he knocked on the door. "Babygirl? Can I come in, love?" He asked

Lorelei got up, tears welled in her eyes. She tossed the negative test into the trash with the rest of the negative tests, and opened the door. She shook her head, tears spilling over.

"we'll figure it out, baby, we will. I promise. I'm so, so sorry, Lorelei" he said, crushing her in a hug. Tears welled in his own eyes, scared. He had been thinking of seeing a doctor to see if he was fertile a few times and now was worried it would confirm his biggest fear

Lorelei slowly cried in his arms. "Why can't I get pregnant?" she sniffled.

"I'm gonna go and see if it's my fault. I'm so sorry, darling" he promised

Lorelei nodded, sniffling. She just wanted a baby. They could adopt, but it wasn't going to be the same as carrying her own child.
