Regan watched as flames slowly crept towards them, but they never jumped the river... they were safe. But, then the sickening feeling that they might have jumped to her cabin washed over her... Tyler had tried to save it with the little trench, but it might not save her home. Everything she owned was there. Sher felt her lip start to wobble as a lump formed in her throat, but tried to swallow it back... it didn't work amazingly. She then looked to Tyler, who was on the floor, just trying to breathe. She wasn't going to let him see her cry. She refused to... not after everything she'd said to him. He'd taunt her mercilessly for it. She sat down next to him and slipped a hand under his chin, gently pushing it back so that he could open his airways a bit. She'd have him put his arms above his head too, but his rib was fractured... it'd probably hurt like hell.

Tyler murmured something under his breath. He knew Regan was trying to help... but he also knew he needed to go back. He took a shallow breath and stood shakily, staggering back in and starting to dig the trench deeper. He would do anything he could to save Regan's home... mostly because he knew this fire would have demolished his. Even after he couldn't really breath anymore he kept digging, then filled it up with water. It was now wide enough it should stop a fire, but there was no way he could get enough water in in time to fill it. Unless... Tyler ran, coughing to the river, starting to dig a trench. It wasn't that far away, so if he dug a tunnel from the river to the trench around the house it would fill the trench up. So he did just that, not stopping till water washed over the hot earth, pouring into the trench. His shirt was soaked in sweat, his hair laying damp across his blurry eyes, and his ribs hurt so bad with every cough he was sure he was going to break them... but he kept on going till he was 99 percent sure the Fire couldn't get through. It wasn't a giant forest fire or anything, just an underbrush one... so hopefully it would be okay. After this Tyler stumbled back across the river, falling against a tree and sliding down it, his chest heaving as he tried to get clean air

When Tyler shot off again, the girl yelled after him but ran along behind him... if he passed out, he'd have to drag him back to the river... although he was a lot bigger than she was, she couldn't have left him there... she'd hate herself for that. Once they were back on the other side of the river, she let out another breath... the fire could still jump the trench, but they'd done something. It might just save her home, but it didn't stop tears from rolling down her face when they finally stopped. She sat next to Tyler, swiping her hand through his hair as she tried to cool him down a bit. "You're so fucking dumb," she whispered to him, though she didn't sound angry... she was just worried for him. He said he was asthmatic, which meant the smoke would have been just awful for him... and she couldn't wrap her head around why he'd decided to try and save her home. She kept on playing with his hair as he tried to catch his breath... just wanting to be some form of comfort to him. Edited at April 13, 2023 03:57 PM by Belle

Tyler smiled weakly, whispering, "I hope I saved your home..." before the lack of air got to him and he passed out, his eyes rolling up in his head as he slumped The rest of the way down to the ground. There was blackness... and nothing more. His breathing was shallow, his chest barely rising and falling... but when you black out you need less air. It might help him... if he wakes up.

Refan couldn't help her panic when she saw the man's eyes roll into the back of his head... but his heart rate slowed a little, and his breathing was a bit slower... but he was still breathing. That was a comfort to her... but she couldn't leave him there... so she just sat with him, gently moving him a little bit so that his head was on her lap... it'd be easier for him to breathe that way. Her hand was still running through his hair gently as she glanced up to the fire... smoke was still crawling out of the woodlands, but they were safe here. She'd sit with him for as long as she needed to.

The fire hit the dug out trench and the water and roared around it, trying to get over for a couple second before dying down. Once it was all gone and the smoke was drifting away in the breeze, Tyler took a sharp intake of breath. He opened his eyes slightly then .. more or less, leaped into the air and pretty much landed in a heap as his legs gave way. He staggered back up, glancing around wildly and trying to control his panicked breathing. Once he saw the cabin was still there, the fire was gone... and the air was clearer, he let out a shuddering breath. It was obvious he was in a lot of pain but he tried not to let it show

Regan sighed when he jumped up... he was pretty jumpy, she'd noticed that. She just sighed and closed her eyes... she patted the ground next to her, inviting him to sit next to her... he was in pain, and she could see that. "Tyler, just sit down for a moment," she whispered, more than happy that he was with her at all... he'd risked his life, and he was still so jumpy... he just needed to chill out. She didn't want to go back to the cabin, which was amidst the smoke... the air still had to clear up a bit.

He was almost shaking with exhaustion and pain by now.. and for once he listened and sat down next to her, leaning his head against the tree. "..sorry." He said after a minute, the answer short lived as he calmed his breathing. He could tell that if he stopped moving, his ribs would heal rather fast. He just kept... breaking them, pretty much. He rubbed his face with his hands, letting out a small groan. "Is your cabin okay..?" He asked quietly, trying to force air down to his lungs

Regan glanced out in the direction of her cabin before sighing. "I don't know," she whispered as she leaned over to rest her head on his shoulder, a bit of a heavy breath escaping her. "But you're alright, no? That's more important," she eventually hummed quietly. She hoped her cabin was alright... she did, but Tyler had become more important. She wanted him to be... well, alive at least. She felt him shaking and glanced up at him for a split second. "You're shaking," she observed a little worriedly before wrapping an arm around his side, trying to keep him a little bit more stable.

Tyler looked in the direction of the cabin. He decided a little smoke wouldn't hurt him now.. so he stood up slowly. "Let's go back and check then..." he said quietly, limping along as fast as he dared. He didn't care if he was shaking, what he was worried about right now was Regan. His mind flitted back to when he pretty much stabbed her in the side... and it was all his fault. He shouldn't have dropped her so quickly, should have realized the traps caught humans too.. he should have been smarter but nooo. Tyler was always stupid and hitheaded. He looked at the cabin, surveying the damage. There were minor scorch marks along the side... but other than that I think looked fine.
