He sighed without opening his eyes. "Whatever." He shook his head slightly. "I deserved it. I've deserved all of it." He wasn't just talking about her hitting him, he was talking about death and his parents too. He could tell she had been crying, and he had shed a few years himself, but now he had hardened his heart again, going back into the shell he was in when she met him. He didn't want to feel anything anymore. He just wanted to curl up somewhere, stop taking human energy, and fade quietly. Being non-existent would be better than this.

Maxine lowered her gaze before she (extra) gently took his cheeks in her hands directing his attention toward her "Look at me please..." she said removing her hands when he was looking at her "Sage... I really am sorry... I feel horrible i promised nobody would hurt you and I broke that promise..." she whimpered "I can't express how sorry I am..." she said choking on her words "You didn't deserve that... none of it..." she whimpered "I don't know what else to say except i'm sorry..." she whimpered "And that I love you..."

Sage looked at her for a second. She was honest, he could tell. She really was sorry, and she really did still love him. He looked down at the ground for a moment before sighing. "You gave me a second chance, so I'll give you one." He looked back up at her and smiled softly. "Don't beat yourself up about hitting me, alright? I was being a brat."

Maxine looked at him "Thank you." she said gently "I won't mess up this time..." she assured him with a nod "I promise..." she assured looking at him "I will believe me... I hate myself for that..." Maxine whimpered looking at him "I really am so sorry for that Sage... and for the things I said... but... just so you know that guy... is married to a man..." she pointed out gently.

He chuckled and shook his head. "I wasn't even mad about that...it just all built up and..." He sighed. "I guess I broke." He snorted. "Seems stupid that I broke now, for that of all things, after everything I've been through up until now." He closed his eyes again, trying to hold his years back. He was supposed to be the strong one, he couldn't cry. He wasn't supposed to. He was supposed to take it all and keep going strong, not sit down and cry. He needed to figure out what was going on and all that.

"I kinda broke too..." she said softly before kissing his forehead and giving him a hug "Its okay to break sometimes..." she told him "Its okay for you to lean on me too..." she told him "If you need to talk or need a shoulder to cry on... use mine." she begged "Please..."

Sage hugged her back lightly at first and then when she said that he grabbed her tighter and buried his head in the crook of her neck and let the tears fall, his shoulders shaking with silent sobs. He hated feeling powerless. Vulnerable. But he did trust Maxine, and he did need her.

Max sighed and adjusted so she was sitting a bit more comfortably humming as she gently combed her fingers through his hair, she couldn't imagine what he'd been through before they met or how long he'd held this in for so she just hummed in hopes to soothe him and let him cry it out.

He cried for a while before he pulled back and wiped his eyes and cheeks before leaning into her again. "Sorry," he muttered. He didn't really know why he was apologizing, but he still felt like he should be stronger than this. Her hands were soothing as they combed through his hair, and he closed his eyes wearily. Staying up all night last night was a bad idea, and he was feeling it now Edited at July 19, 2022 04:46 PM by NightClan

Maxine shook her head "Don't" she said gently "Don't apologize... How about we get room service and watch a movie before we go to sleep...?" she offered "You're exhausted..." she pointed out.
