Sage slept with Charlotte for quite some time, waking up hours later. He blinked groggily and looked around with a slight yawn. He noticed the teddy bear, so Anya must have dropped it off. He looked down at Charlotte and smiled softly, not bothering to say anything to the doctor in the corner of the room. He shifted so he could lay comfortably with the little girl and decided to let her stay with him for as long as she wanted. He wondered where her parents were....if they were even still alive. "Hey...what happened to her," he asked the doctor quietly, so as not to wake the girl.

The doctor was busy scribbling away in the corner, quick notes, and keeping track of whoever had made an appearance that day... which was pretty much everyone. He had noticed the two patients curled up, but if it helped them rest then he wasn't going to bother them at all. Though, he was a little surprised when he heard the boy's voice from the corner. He was flat-out asleep the last time he'd checked, not likely to wake up until the next day. Still, he grunted and flipped back through his little notebook. "Poor thing took a bit of a beating." The man hummed before glancing up. "I'd reckon she's lucky this is the extent of her injuries. Apparently she was jumped by two guys - good thing Luther found her when he did. A few broken ribs and a fractured wrist, a stab wound on her shoulder. Knocked her head pretty bad too - keeps on throwing up. I was a bit worried about that when she first came in, but a bit of rest will do her good." The man gave a slight nod before going back to his little notes.

Sage frowned and nodded, concerned for the girl. Why had two grown men decided to jump a small girl when they were here for other reasons? "Nothing else? They didn't have her long enough to do...other things, right?" It wasn't unusual for that to happen in the slums, as smaller children could be taken advantage of relatively easily. And he had to admit, he was worrying himself silly that that had happened to Charlotte....that kind of thing would haunt her, if this hadn't already. Though, she seemed to be sleeping peacefully for now, which was a good sign. He doubted they would have tried anything, since it took some time, but he wanted to make sure. And if the doctor hadn't checked that aspect out, he needed to. He'd been through similar things himself, and he knew from experience it could really mess you up physically too. And if the doctor couldn't tell that from the edge in his voice, then he was dumber than sage would like. Edited at November 3, 2022 06:36 PM by NightClan

The man glanced up with slightly furrowed brows before shaking his head. Nothing else from what he man could gather had happened to the girl... but she was small, even for her age, and she was already in a pretty bad state. If Luther hadn't come alone when he did, and they managed to drag her off and play out whatever they had going on in their heads, he had no doubt it would have finished her off. "I think they got to get in time. Both men were dead before anything like that could happen." He assured briefly before shaking his head again. They were still trying to find the girls parents, where ever they'd gotten off to as well. They weren't dead. They couldn't be, there were no bodies to prove it... they'd probably ran off somewhere until the coast was clear, hoping their daughter had stayed put... which, the girl quite obviously didn't do.

Sage let out a breath of relief when the doctor assured him nothing else had happened to the girl. He didn't want her to be in any more danger than she already had been in. But she would, hopefully, be fine. He knew well how much it could hurt to have broken ribs...in all honesty he probably had some broken ribs himself, though with the painkiller cream or whatever was on his wounds, he couldn't judge what exactly had happened to him. All he knew was that he'd been shot multiple times. But the doctor had patched him up, so he wasn't overly worried. He ran his fingers through the girl's hair gently, watching her sleep peacefully for a while before drifting back off into a deep sleep himself once again. He briefly wondered what Anya was doing and how she and Luther, and even the queen, were holding up, but he was asleep before he put much thought into it.

Anya, as expected, darted right back toward the queen once she'd dropped the toy off. She was expected to have something to talk about, and the woman did. She talked for hours about how this kind of thing could have been prevented, trying to flip the blame around on the commanding guards. Anya interjected once or twice, stating that the queen has the overall authority to make decisions, but that just earned her a glare from the woman and a sheepish smile from the knights, thankful, but sheepish. After, the girl got a talking to from the woman, saying not to embarrass her like that. Well, Anya didn't exactly see it as embarrassing for the woman, but she took it that way. Man, it'd already been a few hours and they were already having little spats. It was stupid. The girl then went to have a quick talk with Luther, make sure he was alright before wandering off again to her room. The peace of her room would have been nice... well if it hadn't been turned upside down by the rebels. All the nice things were gone, but the bed was still untouched in the middle of the room, so the girl ignored everything and wandered over and flopped down.

Sage only woke up once the rest of the day, and a quick glance around the doctor's office told him that the man was still working away in the corner. Charlotte was still asleep, and doing alright, which was good ....she needed the rest to be able to heal. He looked down at the girl softly and sighed quietly. Her parents should have been found by now...he wondered what had become of them. They were bound to be frantically looking for their daughter, and everyone knew Charlotte was in the doctor's office, so they should know where to go to find the girl. But he'd keep an eye on her and do whatever he needed to do to keep the little girl alive and healthy. He wrapped himself around the girl gently, as best he could, and closed his eyes again. Whatever the doctor had put on the bullet wounds had started to wear off by then, so falling asleep took quite some time but eventually he managed to slip back into a sort of fitful sleep, never really able to get very comfortable.

Anya found herself drifting straight off into sleep. It was strange, especially after everything she'd just seen, but even though it was all very... overwhelming, she found it pretty easy to relax. She trusted that no one was in the castle... well, kind of. She'd half expected to see someone jump out of one of her cupboards, or maybe even from under her bed, and grab her. There was still a bit of blood on the floor but only dribbles... and if she was on her bed, with her eyes closed, she wouldn't be able to see any of it, which was good enough for her. She wasn't really scared of being attacked or anything, they wouldn't kill her... well, that scared her more than anything. She wasn't likely to be killed, but whatever else would happen was bound to be worse, she was sure. After a couple of hours, the girl woke up from a not-so-great dream before deciding to check back in on Sage and Charlotte. The doctor was there, she knew that, but even if they were asleep she was happy to sit there and read for a while... where there were other people around, where is was safe.

Sage woke up again not long after he'd fallen back asleep, and sighed, knowing he probably wasn't going to get any more sleep that night. At least, not much more anyway. He looked down at Charlotte, who was still sleeping peacefully next to him and smiled softly. At least one of them was getting the rest they needed. He closed his eyes, knowing that there wasn't much to do but lay there...he could at least try to get some rest, even if he didn't sleep. It would help the time pass quicker at the very least. The doctor had gone into his office and fallen asleep at some point...Sage could hear the slight snoring of the guy. He seemed to be a deep sleeper, so maybe he could get Anya to come visit at night at some point. He shrugged the thought off - the girl would come when she had time and felt up for it. He was sure her family needed her, and he knew there was a lot to talk about. She'd do what she could, when she could. He trusted her to do what was best for herself...he didn't want her any more stressed or worried than she already was. WHat was worrying him was the little girl's parents...if they didn't show up by tomorrow, they were most likely dead.

The girl walked slow... groggily as she made her way back towards the ward. She was tired, a bit stressed and everything seemed wrong. Everyone who wasn't clearing up bodies was trying to find the little girls parents. Anya was much closer to Charlotte and her parents than the rest of her cousins, which was mostly because the girls father was her uncle. Anya did think that they would have made better rulers than her own parents, they were a lot firmer than her own, but some of the least vain out of the rest of the family. They were a lot easier to get along with than her own parents, at least she thought so. Anya almost closed her eyes as she walked along, only looking up again when she was in the white of the doctors ward. It was cleaner, and safer, and so much quieter than the business of, well, everything. The only noise really was the sound of the doctors snoring. Anya slipped in quietly and got comfortable on a bed across from the two, a book clutched in her hands as she glanced over at them before flicking through to find her page. It really was adorable, and she couldn't help the grin that came to her face at the sight.
