Josephine nodded and smiled, attempting to loosen up some. He seemed nice enough, but she couldn't help but be wary. "And you're Caleb?" She asked in return, wanting to confirm she remembered correctly.

Caleb nodded, glad she was comfortable. "You like it here, working with your family?" He asked, making small talk and trying to help her feel more comfortable around him

Josephine's smile faltered for a second before fixing itself. "It's a good place to work. I don't always want to be here, but I think thats just because I want space from my parents sometimes," she shrugged, not diving into the whole reason. Things weren't the same since Jillian had passed.

Caleb noticed her smile slip-up. "Everything okay?" He asked, concern flashing across his features

Josephine grimaced inwardly when he had noticed her slip-up. "Yeah. This place just has some pretty bad memories for me. It wasn't nothing my parents did, of course, they're amazing people, there's just been... A lot to happen," she explained, leaning back against the wall. "You don't need to worry though," she added, forcing a new smile to reassure him.

Caleb chuckled. "If you say so" He murmured, smiling at her once more. "How old are you?" He asked, curious

Josephine smiled, fighting off the urge to blush. She probably sounded nuts. "Turned 20 a few months ago. How about you?" She asked, having noticed he seemed pretty young. Their last ranch hand had been 26, and she knew he couldn't be quite that old.

"I'm 23. My mare and I traveled to rodeos for a while, but eventually she seemed to be bored. I looked for a change of pace, and ended up helping out here." He explained, leaning back on his hands

"Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for here. I'm sure it'll be good for y'all to settle in for a little while," she told him, running a hand through her hair before standing up off the wall. "I guess I should let you get settled instead of taking up your time. Is there anything you need before I leave you to it?" She asked, biting at her bottom lip lightly.

Caleb shook his head. "Thanks, though." He said, smiling at her. When she'd left, he stood and walked to put Splash away
