Elowyn raised her eyebrows at his glare, very tempted to remind him that she was his boss. Luckily, he continued before she could loosen her tongue for the remark. She followed him almost effortlessly up the stairs and into the house. She may as well have been walking in sneakers. "Right." She said simply, setting her bag in what seemed to be an out of the way place. She walked back out to him, lifting her sunglasses momentarily and sucking in a breath at the brightness. Her pale green irises stood out well in the sun, particularly with her wide-eyed expression and the frame of black lashes surrounding them. She tossed a spare look at him and dropped her sunglasses, back to the shady look she preferred. She peered in the direction he gestured, nodding lightly. "Noted. Where to next?" She asked quietly, looking up at him. Edited at January 21, 2024 05:10 PM by Widow Valley Farms

Dante turned for a minute to glance around at the open driveway, random machinery, trailers, trees and gates were filling the open space between the buildings. The dogs were barking and yowling over by the cows. He checked his shiny watch. The leather band was worn and old. A bale or two was probably being thrown out. And their pack of three cattle dogs were being as helpful as they knew to be. He wouldn't say he didn't expect her eyes, red hair green eyes was kind of a stereotype but it still kinda surprised him that he could tell what color they were when she stepped into the sun. He didn't linger more than long enough to take in what she looked like without the glasses on. Back down the steps he went. "To the stables." He announced and walked toward the second most furnished looking building, the Arena took first place. In his attempt to stop judging her, he put up a more approachable façade, not that it would actually work, it did make him feel better that he at least tried a little. "We have about uh forty horses. The retired and pregnant ones are usually out to far pasture. We have thirty-two ablebodied, some are working and some are pastured between whatever work there is. Usually making sure the fences are good, running the cattle or doing lessons." He'd been using his hands to gesture about the subject of his words. He wasn't talking too fast but it was definitely a crude explanation.

Elowyn followed him quietly, again walking with an almost disturbingly smooth gait. She was sure that seeing animals would make her feel better about- everything. They were her soft spot and then some. She walked lightly after him, rolling up her sleeves to the elbows in anticipation. She continued after him, taking in his explanation silently as they made their way into what seemed to be a major part of the ranch. It looked well kept enough, and she picked up her pace as she walked down the aisle. "I see." She nodded faintly, but she had stopped listening to him after the horse statistics. She walked right up to a stall, holding her hand palm out to the large bay mare in front of her. Since the horse didn't seem aggresive, she started to stroke it lightly. Her lips curled up softly at the edges as she looked up, gently running her fingers through the mare's forelock and pulling out a stray piece of hay. She ran her fingers gently down the white blaze splitting the mare's face as the horse nudged her, snorting on her blouse. After, she forced her attention away from the animal and back to Dante, her face falling back to the neutral expression as she dropped her hands.

Dante peeked at her, he was starting to decide she scared him a little with her stoic looks and stature. She definitely looked like she owned the place but she didn't even watch where she was stepping. Even he was worried about her well kept heels. He turned into an observer as they entered the barn's hay strewn halll, watching her B-line for the first horse she saw. Head tilted for a moment at her ease with the horse. He turned around instead of staring, he'd rather her see him working than watching. Gazing at the stall behind him, a chestnut gelding, skimming not being a pony. He was nearly out of hay. He grabbed a hay-net from the nearby rack and tossed it on a near haybale and pulled said hay closer to the stall. He'd see it later. He looked up as she turned around, the faint smile was reassuring but how quickly it faded was concerning. He awkwardly looked around, trying to remember where the hell he was. "Oh! Ah- yes to the cow shed." He gestured to the other entrance on the other side of the barn. He glanced up at the hayloft in the roof as they walked. Elowyn caught the tail end of Dante tugging hay closer to a stall, tilting her head faintly. She glanced at the gelding behind him, nodding as he started on toward the cowshed. She paused and planted a light kiss on the mare's head before she followed him, heels crunching quietly over the gravel as they started outside again. She glanced around somewhat curiously, absentmindedly tugging a tendril of hair to cover one of the sparrows on her collarbone.

Dante and I share an attention span "she smiled :O ..what was I doing ..where am I?")) He quieted down til they made it closer to the shed, you could hear the catttle moving around at this point. The shed was actually pretty big but it was pretty close to just a shed even if they milked in there. "We have a few thousand head at most every year, not including the ones we sell. Mostly angus but we have some random holsteins of varying uh genders and some jersey cows." He gave it a simple explanation this time since she seemed to lose track of his voice. The barn doors were open, gates separated them from the cows who were enjoying the shade in the barn. It was roomy, and open always.

Pffft Meanwhile Elowyn is just melting over every living animal She sees)) Elowyn listened intently to the sound of hooves shuffling about, glancing at him as he began to explain. This time, there wasn't anything covered in fur to distract her from his explanation. Until she saw through the barn doors and multiple furry things settled inside. She brightened a little bit, and if he weren't there, she probably would have been finding a way to pet them. Instead, she forced her attention back to him and nodded. "Alright." She said quietly, waiting for him to continue.

I'm a mix of the two HEHE "-GASP- animal -after an hour of petting- ...how did I get here?")) Dante grinned slightly, enjoying watching her for the time that she was staring at the cows. He glanced over the cattle for a moment, surveying while he was here. He turned on his heel and walked back into the sun. "The big building back there is the barn where trailers and tractors go. Most important is probably to remember, west is to the horses, east is to the cows, south is to leave and north is toward the woods." He concluded. "Thats all you need to know to get around, the specifics you'll figure out along the way."

Elowyn followed him quietly as he began moving, looking over her shoulder with a longing glance at the cows. One day, she was going to pet them. It was the first thing on her to do list. She turned her attention back to him. She noted what he said, trying to take what he said into account. "Alright. I think I can live with that." She shrugged, starting up toward the main house and hesitating. "I'm assuming I'm to get settled in now?" She asked lightly.

Dante turned to her slightly, with those glasses on he was starting to wonder if she had ever actually made eye contact with him. He slowed down at her question, coming to a stop since the tour was over and there were people in the main house who would know too. "yeah. There should be someone who can show you around the house, if you need help, its everywhere. And if you happen to want me I'll be in the stable." He smiled slightly, nodding. Pulling his gloves over his hands.
