The flatwork Matt had planned out in his head seemed to be going rather well, or at least at first. Emira had calmed down once she was in the arena and walking around, only acting up a little when she spotted another horse walk past, or a crisp packet at that. Firstly, Matt had her walking round at ease, once in a while proceeding to an extended walk to ease her joints. After that, he would do the same with trot, though not being a dressage horse, the mare struggled to find a good extended trot without breaking into a canter, or tripping Third, he worked on her canter- the most important gate. When she was first being trained, Emira had a very very unsteady canter. She couldnt go in a straight line, she would bend too far on even the easiest of turns and was in generally very fancy. It was just as well Matt didnt take up hunter jumping, pretty much all his points would be deducted jjust for the fact he wouldnt stay balanced enough in the saddle. Lastly, he did a couple lead changes, a circle or two to smooth her out, and then brought her to a halt. Well, they were his plans. As Emira caught sight of a horse, clearly acting up she did the same, stopping in her tracks and shooting her head up. Matt had calmed her down enough to get her going again, when the rider yelled out a slightly inaudible apology, causing Emira to back herself up at the high pitched noise. Matt shot a look of pure disgust in their direction- only to realise it was the pair from earlier. The jockey with her red mare. "Control your horse" he said, not particularly caring if she heard ot not- He absolutely didnt have time for that. About ten or so minutes went by, and Matt finally decided a couple 20-40cm jumps put up would do good for the day. He rode towards the gate of the arena, hopping off to go and find Lucy, who essentially helped him with well..everything. The short brunette bounced over as soon as he explained, helping with a couple jumps, not really in a course. First, on the left, 20cm jump, followed by another 20cm. Turn a little in at C, diagonally, a 40cm jump. Another 40cm down the diagonal, turn again on the other lead, two 20cm. A simple 6 jump course. Once they were put up he hopped back on Emira, handing Lucy his phone to film as he always liked, and finally, got started.

Shona moved Dallas quietly into the starting gates, the mares ears perking up, knowing what was bound to happen. The lead trainer for the jockies was standing beside the gate, overseeing Dallas' training this morning. "Shona, quick start, quarter mile, bring her back. We need to get her moving quicker out of the gate." Jeremy announced. Shona just nodded. Dallas would never be a highstakes winner. It upset Shona to admit, but it was true. Her bloodlines weren't the best, but Shona had put a lot of work in to get her this far, and she wasn't going to give up. "Oh, also, theres a trailer due to arrive in a few days. Two colts. Ones a Secreteriat relative, the other is a colt out of Race Day." Shona's ears perked up at that name. Secreteriat was a great horse too, but knowing how Race Day's foals had gone, she wanted that one. "Colts huh? Have they been started?" She asked. "Under saddle, yes, racing, a little. Lots of training will need to go into them. They're both 4, raced once or twice, scored decently well..." Jeremy rambled. "Ugly grey looking thing, Demi is. Thats the Race foal." He added at the end. Shona shrugged again. Dallas stomped her front hooves, signalling she was ready, and getting impatient. Shona pat her shoulder, and asked Jeremy to get on the gates already. He chuckled, counted down, and the gates opened. Shona urged the mare forwards and they left the gates at a full gallop. She groaned as they sped towards the 1/4 mile line, knowing the mare was too slow. As they cantered back, Jeremy seemed dissapointed. "I know, I know. Lets go again." The mare was loaded back in, the steps repeated and this time they left at a more fitting time. Not too slow, could be faster, but Shona was happy with how they did. This time as they got back, Jeremy seemed somewhat happier, and they got loaded up once more. "She'll be getting tired, surely?" He asked, looking at the mare skeptical. "Nah she's still got plenty. This will be the last one before I take her for a lope though. I've got the two geldings to take around the track yet." She replied. She hated that. Horses that weren't even hers. They won money at the local races though, so she couldn't complain. Anything that would get their estate back. Dallas left the gate this time, flying through it. Faster than she had before. The mare seemed determined, and Shona was surprised. Race season was going to be a blast if the mare kept this up. Coming back to Jeremy, he looked flabbergasted. "Holy shit she flew!" He exclaimed. Shona giddily agreed. "She's never been that fast before." She replied out of breath. "Alright, well I'm off, have to go help Dianne with Xavier, apparently he's been giving her hell lately! I'll see you later." Jeremy said before walking off the track. Shona waved before turning Dallas around and taking her for a canter around the track to keep her fitness up.

For the most part, the small six-jump course was easy, overly easy for Emira. She did it once round perfectly, got a bit excited the second and then, bored on the third. She jumped beautifully, clearing the 40cm with miles to spare, snapping her legs up and dipping her head down slightlyso her front legs nearly touched her nose. She managed to make it look fashionable, any other horse may have looked a bit odd, really. After the lesson was over, Matt brought Emira back to the cross ties, struggling a little as she stepped from side to side, shaking her head and grunting. It always seemed to be the case after every ride, she napped, she side stepped and she got increasingly agitated as soon as Matt was out the saddle- but everyone just put it down to her past. He washed her down gently, checking her over more than three times for any injuries, a slight worry growing deep inside his chest though there didnt seem to be a single problem. He sighed, pulled the sweat scraper down over her body lightly and patted her down, watching as she nuzzled his shirt. - bit short, busy :)

Shona finished the lap on Dallas, and dismounted, walking her back to the yard. Dallas seemed a little more tired, and Shona felt as if she had done good. The mares steps seemed a little slower, and Shona was basically pulling the mare along. Feeling sweaty, Shona tied her hair into a messy bun, and dropped the mares lead for a moment to take off her vest. She tied her vest to the mares stirrup before picking the lead back up and walking her back to the cross-ties. When Shona walked through the open doors, a wave of embarrassment hit the young woman. The man and his very white horse were standing in the stall next to the one she used. Lowering her head, she moved Dallas into the cross-ties and started taking the tack off, disregarding her vest over the side of the stall. Embarrassment gnawing at her, Shona decided to speak up. "Hey, about earlier? I'm really sorry, Dallas is never usually like that." Lies. But he doesn't need to know that. Her Australian accent was slightly more noticeable due to her almost mumbling.

Emira went from nuzzling and tugging slightly at Matt's shirt to looking over his shoulder as a voice echoed through. Her gaze seemed to have caught on the horse that was wth the person rather quickly, and she whinnied uneccessarily loudly, just to let her know her presence. Matt stood up from feeling her legs with a frown, looking up at the white mare. He mumbled something inaudible, then bent down to feel her hind legs- only then did he decide to answer whatever the person had said. As Matt turned round and caught sight of who had spoken to him, his face dropped from a light, faint but polite smile to a flat expression. He shrugged, his eyes scanning the red mare that was with her. "It's fine." He said bluntly, his tone almost a hiss. As he went back to doing what he was doing, his mind seemed o question his own words, and why he was being so rude. It was the first day, usually he wouldn't care, most people left after the first day. But, this time seemed a little different. Matt stood up properly and turned to face the girl, setting the hoof pick down on top of the wooden post next to him, shaking his hair out from his eyes. "You're a jockey, right?" Matt knew the answer before it was even spoken, her attire, horse and general sense screamed "racing over jumping," but he thought he might aswell try and make some sort of conversation. Judging by their schedules, they would be seeing a lot of each other in that barn. And perhaps doing general chores, when the barn managers had finally devised the proper schedules. Emira was beginning to get restless by this point, the lack of attention, movement and the sight of another horse that she hadn't seen before was taking its toll on her. She started pawing at the ground, snorting faintly. As Matt felt the light scrape of a hoof on the back of his ankle he let out a small sigh, turning and fiddling with the mare's forelock, which she seemed to enjoy. He then, turned to the girl. "I've gotta get her going. Sorry." he spoke, his words a slight mumble but in no way as much of a hiss as before. Then, he unclipped Emira from the cross tie and led her a little down the barn to her stall.

As Shona was finishing Dallas' grooming, she heard the man speak. His tone brushed over her, not letting him effect her. "Jockey, yes." She laughed a little. She was well aware how obvious it was. She brushed down the mare, picked her hooves, and felt her for possible injuries. None. She smiled to herself. Dallas happily played with the cross-ties. "Oh, no problem!" Shona replied to the boys leaving. After watching him walk further down the stalls, Shona and Dallas followed. Their footsteps echoed in the still empty barn as they made their way back to Dallas' stall. Shona grabbed the mares stable blanket and placed it over the mare, fixing it in place before taking off her halter. She stood for a moment, stroking the mares face, lost in thought.

Matt didnt even give so much as a nod after he walked back past the girl and her mare, as if they hadnt just spoken to each other. Instead, he dipped into the barn office, hopefully without the now increasing amount of people walking around. Larry, the racing barn manager, wasnt in there yet and luckily, gave Matt some space, and time. He scanned his finger over the jockeys and their assigned horses, going over who he knew. Amelia with Skyline, he knew. Sienna with Falcon, he knew. Danny with Aurora, he knew. His eyes scanned every single name until finally, his eyes caught onto someone he didnt, whether they were new or he just hadnt paid attention to them. Shona and Dallas. Brilliant, that beats having to ask her name. Before he left his gaze flitted over a couple details, most of which were about Shona being quite a good jockey, which only made him feel more frustrated, before slipping out the office, rubbing down his breeches. - As the day went on a little, Matt was oing his basic chores. Muck out horses, get the feed ready for the showjupers, clean the barn down. Every now and often he went into the racing barn to see and check Emira, until finally, the day was drawing to unch. Most people were in the riders lounge, all arguing, gossiping or crying over various things. Matt made his way in and sat down on a stool by the bar, talking to a couple fellow showjumpers. For the most part he was fine, though his mind only had one thought at the back- Shona and Dallas.

Shona finished up with one of the geldings she was assigned to today, and was finishing his grooming. A quick chime from her phone made her realise the time. "Ah crap. Nearly didn't eat today." She let out a small laugh as she walked the dark bay back to his stall. Shona checked her messages as she walked to the riders lounge, replying to the few she deemed worthy of, checked the racing world briefly, then switched it off. Shona pushed open the doors, and groaned quietly as she realised how busy it was. Moving through the crowded space, she found herself at the bench. Making herself a coffee and pinching a biscuit, she then moved to an empty seat. Shona placed her nose back into her phone as she sipped from her coffee. She had finished the biscuits, and was simply enjoying getting lost in the endless scrolling she was taking part in. A few updates on her favourite racing studs came through, and she quickly found her way to the colts page she was due to receive soon. He was a stunning dapple, and not at all like the "ugly grey" Jeremy had mentioned. One of her friends sat down next to her. "Had fun on Dallas this morning?" Dianne asked. "Saw you two on the track. Impressive starts." She giggled. Shona rolled her eyes. "Yeah, she did fine." She shrugged. "Xavier been giving you hell, huh?" Shona remarked. "A stud in a stable full of mares, naturally." They quickly got lost in conversation, Shona's coffee quickly finished and her phone disregarded.

Most of the lunch break that Matt had was passing by incredibly slowly. Lucy was waffling on about her mare, Zeva, and Matt was listeneing. That was pretty much it. As a fair amount of people left the riders lounge as lunch drew to a close, he could hear varous other peoples conversations. Including, Shona and some other girl she was talking to. Something about "impressive starts." Matt looked over at the two, surpressing a slight laugh, almost mocking them as he did so. Not because there was anything wrong with her, the mare or the person she was talking to, but just because he found it funny. Now, Matt was a person of high morale and respect- when it came to the showjumpers. If it came to the jockeys saying anythng about their profession, how well they thought they would be doing, how impressed they were with their horses, he would judge. Sure, their thoroughbreds could run incredibly fast, had a hell of a lot of stamina, and in the end be worth millions. But he didnt care about that. In his opinion, a good horse was a horse that could jump. One that had a perfect bascule, the ability to turn on a dime and clear over a meter high jumps without problem. Not one that could win flat races. He told Lucy about his little "adventure" earlier, watching the girl catch on to what he was saying rather fast, and then proceeded to make his way ot the riders lounge, staring down at both Shona and the girl she was talking to with what could only be described as a look of disgust. Lucy, in her excitable, unhelpful state mentioned a little thing about Dallas as they walked past, dipping out the lounge with Matt briefly after.

Shona and Dianne kept chatting excitedly about all of the things they were doing with their horses, upcoming races they were taking part in, and the trailer of colts coming that they were sharing. "Mines Demi, Race Days son." Shona happily shared. "The one you're getting is a colt with Secreteriat blood in him." Dianne nodded along. "Jeremy told me." Dianne replied. Shona smiled. That was until she heard that mans voice from across the room and stiffened. Her annoyance was increased as she felt him walk behind her, disgust radiating off of him. Shona rolled her eyes and filled Dianne in on what had happened this morning. She just giggled. "Oh, that would be Matt." She scoffed. "Matt?" Shona asked. "Yes, he's quite a prick really. Thinks us jockies are below him simply because our horses don't jump." Shona rolled her eyes. "Let me guess, born rich and with a silver spoon, force fed nice horses?" She remarked, her voice laced with venom. "I wouldn't go that far..." Dianne trailed off. "I don't care!" Shona announced, standing up abruptly. She was now very aggravated. "Well, I have another horse to lope. I'll see you when we do our chores." Shona sighed. Walking out of the lounge, she walked back to the racing barn and pulled out the other gelding, groomed and tacked him up before walking him out to the track. Shona was beyond pissed. No one had the right to disregard her profession, or look down their nose at her. If she saw Matt again today, she was destined to give him a piece of her mind.
