Aww Tyler is such a sweetie-pie!!))

Raine's heart thundered in her chest as she tried to propell herself forward. But her body still ached from her transformation and her falls over the rocks, and she was too weak. She hadn't been in the eater for even a full hour, and already she was failing on her mission. Completely lost, cold, alone, and scared out of her skin, Raine was about to cry out until she spotted another figure approaching. Her mind whirled in its frantic state. Something else ready to hunt her? Her throat burned in desperation, even as the voices registered. Her mind cleared enough for her to see the figure before her, a merman. He was big and dark, and marked with scars. She wondered what had happened in his life that he looked like that, a curiousness niggling at the back of her thoughts. The initial sight of him chilled her, before she realised that he was trying to ward the monster off her. He called her stupid, but she wasn't stupid, just lost.

Raine tried to still her movements, but her body shook. She watched the merman and what looked to be a tentacled sea monster exchange words, words about her. She didn't know whether to say something, but kept her mouth shut lest she say something to put herself in more danger. If she was eaten, the Queen would die without a hope, and she would be forever lost without her fae family knowing what had happened. As the monster and merman talked, she inched backwards, putting as much distance as she could between herself and them.

"So as I was saying, this... mermaid is probably just lost. Otherwise she wouldn't be here, right? I can get you some food if you're patient... in exchange for letting me and this mermaid live long enough for me to bring you food." Tyler said, his hands raised and his deep voice ringing through the water. The giant eyes blinked once, flashing in the dark. "Lost, you say? Mmm... food. Yes, I am hungry. If I let you and the lost mermaid live, you will bring me food? Fair enough bargain for me." The monster rumbled, sinking back into the depths and disappearing. Tyler immedietely relaxed... he hadn't exactly wanted to get eaten by Chaos. "Grumpy old Larchan." Tyler muttered under his breath, knowing the dragon thing didn't have very good hearing. He swam back up towards the mermaid, stopping when he was a little ways away. "I apologize for calling you stupid, but WHY were you trying to get eaten by Chaos?" Tyler asked, his husky voice filled with hostility, slight anger, and a little curiosity. As said before, he did not like other mermaids or mermen. He really did despise them, for killing plants and animals to build a city, and being such stuck up snobs. That's why Tyler ran away to go build his little hut with his giant gardens that he took care of daily. That's why he visisted volcanoes and rescued creatures that got stuck on the active ones. That's why he patrolled each day to see if there were any creatures in need of help, or any mermen then were getting too close to his hideout. The other small reason was because he was, as the humans called them... a veteran. Ah yes, a disabled veteran. Tyler had been physically wounded in a way that wouldn't heal, so the other mermen had no use for him, so they cast him out like a pile of rocks. Tyler couldn't help but glance down at his daggers, guessing he wouldn't have to use them... but being ready just in case. He flicked his tail, backing up a little to put even more distance between him and the mermaid. Tyler was wary... nothing about this made sense. Why was she all the way out here, hundreds of miles from the city? Why did she not know about Chaos? Why did she seem... lost?

I'm excited for this one!))

Raine had made it all of 12 yards before the merman approached. It seemed that he had struck some sort of agreement with the monster. She shrank back as he neared, the size and general appearance of him was manacing. She wondered if he was friend, or if was foe. The water chilled around her and bumps rose on her skin, her body unused to such a different environment. The tea had adapted her body somewhat, but nothing could make up for the fact that she was not originally made for the water.

Eyeing the merman's belt of knives, Raine bristled at the open hostility and hesitated to answer his question. "Obviously I was not 'trying' to get eated," she said, with an upwards tilt of her chin. She backed away a little more and peered into the darkness behind him, where the thing he'd called a Larchan dwelled. If she had to go through the same mind-tearing pain when she transformed back into fae form, maybe being eaten by the larchan wasn't so bad. Immediately, Raine banished the thought. If that happened, her Queen would never have a chance at being better again. "I didn't know he was there. I don't know where 'there', 'here', is. I don't even know which way North is right now. All I know is that that," she pointed a finger towards the surface, "is up, which would lead me in the opposide direction to where I need to go, which is down, I think." Raine frowned and planted her hands on what she supposed were her hips. And winced, because although the surface of her skin had healed with her transformation, everything ached inside, and she was tiring fast. "I am so lost," she admitted. "I know what I need to find, and where I need to go to rope someone into helping me find it, but I don't know where to go for either."

A hand drifted up to the necklace and she self-consciously fingured one of the black pearls. They were all different shapes, the texture satisfying beneath her fingers. The royal crest lay on a pendent in the middle. When Raine had first put it on, the fleeting thought that it somewhat resembled a collar crossed her mind, but she'd quickly squashed it. The King and Queen were the closest thing she had to parents, and they had been good to her. The King was desperate to save his wife, and he had probably overlooked the dangers of the undersea because of that desperation. But Raine was prepared to face any danger for her Queen, and this plant was the only hope left. She would find it, or she would die trying.

Raine squared her shoulders and lifted her chin. "If you can just point me in a general direction, that would be more helpful than what anyone else has given me so far. I'll be on my way and you can be on yours."

As Tyler studied the mermaid further, he really could see she looked lost, and a little afraid. He had a feeling that only a small portion of that fear was for Chaos, and that most of it was directed towards him. -Am I really that scary? Okay, bigger than normal with black haur, beard, and daggers... just might be the tiniest bit scary- Tyler thought, resisting to make a face. He crossed his arms over his chest and waited for her explanation, because at this point... he was more confused then hostile. He decided not to comment on *not trying to get eaten* mostly because he had about 40 bad remarks that would either make her more scared of him or angry at him. As the girl went on about how she literally knew... nothing about the underwater world, Tyler grew even less hostile. He didn't look angry anymore, just guarded, a little confused, and a little curious.
-
When she was done he gave a little tilt of his head, obviously thinking. Tyler's arms dropped to his sides and he pulled out a dagger, fiddling with it for a moment before remembering that might terrify some mermaids. "I'm not going to spear you, I'm thinking." He said wryly, his voice low. Tyler finally looked up and watched the mermaid for a second. "So what you are saying is... you are completely lost and have never been in the underwater world before." Tyler started. "You have been shivering this whole time, you didn't know about Chaos, you looked way more scared of me then any normal stuck up mermaid, and you just want to know where to go? Nothing else?" He arched an eyebrow. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have the slightest feeling you... aren't a mermaid. Or, you weren't one." Tyler finished, sheathing the dagger and crossing his arms again. He didn't know if he was right, but most of the facts pointed to that. The things Tyler really didn't know... what was she before she turned into a mermaid, how did she turn into a mermaid, and what made her want to become a mermaid? Because Tyler would give just about anything to leave this wretched place. The only thing for him down here was his seaweed garden and some animals.
-
Tyler got almost lost in thought thinking about why she would want to come here, and his face softened slightly. He really didn't mean to be rude... he just had bad experiences with other mermen and mermaids. This, however, would be different... because this girl had obviously not been a mermaid for long. Tyler could tell she was sore and cold, and mermaids NEVER get sore or cold. Of course, Tyler got sore frequently but that was because of his silly battle wound that *disabled* him and caused the other mermen to kick him out for the rest of his life. Yay? Not.
-
"I can point you in the right direction... after you explain to me some things, and maybe just possibly get some... help for yourself? For one, a guide might be nice. If you didn't know Chaos was there it will surprise you how many giant creatures are lurking in the depths, ready to eat you. For two, if you just turned into a mermaid, a couple hours of rest might do you good. To acclimate. So I'm afriad the only thing I can point you to at the moment is the city, and that's literally hundreds of miles away." Tyler said gruffly, though his voice was not mean. -Why did she have to enter the sea here, of all places?- He thought, his eyebrows dropping slightly

(Writing inspo)

Raine sized the merman up with a more calculating gaze. So far, he seemed more friend than foe, but that could change at the drop of a hat. She gestured towards the royal crest pendent at the hollow of her throat. "No, I'm not really a mermaid. I was born fae. I come from Codare," she admitted. The small movements of her tail began to slow. "I was sent to find something. My Queen is sick and the Oprianna's Seaberry is her only hope, according to the herbalist. I was told that they're so rare, the texts estimate that there are only three or four plants on all the oceans, but only one plant is known to fae-kind. They showed me a sketch of the plant and a map, but of course I could bring neither. I tried to memorise the map, but I didn't have a lot of time, and it looks so different in real like than on a sketch, if the sketch is even accurate and it's probably not."

Rain rubbed her temples. Her head hurt and her throat burned with the overwhelming need to cry. But she wouldn't. Crying would get her nowhere. She needed to think, and the merman was right. She needed help, and maybe he was willing to give it to her. "Pointing me towards the city could be very much appreciated," she nodded, giving her tail a stronger flick when she began to sink. The action sent her mind reeling and dark stars danced in her vision. She clenched her teeth as the new and over-used muscles below her waiste seized and spasmed. "But you have to do so now so I can be on my way to get there sooner rather than later." If it was hundreds of miles away, it would take her hours to make the journey. Maybe even the whole day.

A pang of anguish hit her square in the chest before she mentally scrunched it into a ball and threw it as far as she could. There was no room for those feelings here or nothing would get done. She had fourteen days to get out of the water to get her legs and wings back, and the Queen would not likely last that long.

Her wings... She hadn't even thought about them with all the agony. She tried to spin to see if they were still there, but she knew they weren't. She hadn't felt them as she swam. They'd probably torn when she fell on the rocks, and then dissolved in the water. What would happen to her when she changed back? Would she have to re-grow them? She probably would. And they probably wouldn't be the same, either. The thought clawed at her. She loved her wings. Rain clutched the royal pendant in her fist, her knuckles whitening. The metal bit into her palm and the feeling grounded her. She didn't lose her wings for no reason. There was a job to be done. "Tell me the way, I don't have much time."

Tyler waited silently as the mermaid observed him. It was slightly unnerving, to say the least. He listened to what she said, his black eyebrows raising again as she spoke. Tyler decided not to comment until she was entirely done, just staying still with the occasional flick of his tail to stay in place. As the mermaid/fae explained his face got less emotionless and he understood more. Soon Tyler dind't look angry, annoyed, confused, or curious. His face was just... rather stony. He could tell that the girl was very exhausted, and Tyler knew there was absoultely no way she could ever make it to the city. From what he could see, after a couple miles she would sink to the bottom and not move for a couple days.
-
"Well that explains a lot... and the Fae were right about one thing, that plant is very rare. In fact, there are only two... ever since the big war a couple years ago. It third got destroyed." Tyler's voice held slight sadness, like that was bringing up old memories. He quickly cleared it, knowing the mermaid would probably put 2 and 2 together. All his scars... and the sadness as he talked about the war.
-
"Scratch what I said before, I understand you are on a timed schedule but you are not going to make it. I'm sure you were a very strong Fae when you were above water, but right now you look more like a floppy sunfish." Tyler said quietly. He really didn't like others... but he couldn't let this mermaid go to her doom. For one she would never find the two remaining plants. For two she was totally going to drop. Tyler knew he would hate this, and he knew the mermaid would resist, but he wasn't prepared to let her die. If she would just rest for a day, he could find someone to show her where the flowers were. -But that wouldn't work... there is probably only four mermen in the world that know where the second flower is. The first flower is heavily guarded by the city people... so that's not an option. I'm one of those four men... but it is all the way on the other side of the sea. If she really is as desperate as she says, then Tyler couldn't spend time finding a guide. He... he would have to do it, if she would accept help- Tyler's brain raced as he tried to figure out a solution.
-
He finally looked at the mermaid, his dark eyes like black pools. "I'm sorry... but I can't show you where the city is. The best way for you to find the flower is rest a day, then find someone who can lead you to the only flower you can get to." Tyler said slowly. He didn't mention that he would be one of the only mermen to tell her where it was. In between the flower and where they were was the place all the mermen called... the danger zone. No one came back alive except for Tyler. As far as he knew... he was the only merman or mermaid that ever passed through alive. "Please allow me to help-" Tyler sounded like he was going to say something else but he changed his mind and said that only.

If she wasn't so exhaused, Raine would have cracked up laughing at the 'floppy sunfish' comment. But she was more than exhausted and didn't have the energy for humour. She could picture it though. The sight of her must be quite alarming for such a comment from such a merman.

"I admit, I feel horrible." She was truly suffering, and it obviously showed. Just as it showed in him. Indeed, she'd noticed. The deep scars, the cold expression but sad eyes, she'd seen men like him before. He was a soldier, or had been at some point. The whole demeanour screamed 'suffering', in one way or another. Maybe he had in the past, or maybe he still was. Raine got the feeling that it was the second option. Everything about him seemed hard, like he'd built up walls that would not be easily broken. Her extemely empathetic heart cried for what he might have been through.

Raine let her gaze lock with his, and what she saw there, his resolve softening, compelled her to accept whatever he was offering. She knew nothing of him; not his past, nor personality, nor the motivatons behind his words. And yet, his appearance failed to frighten her. She held his gaze and slowly nodded. "I accept your offer of help. And I think you're right. I won't make it two miles to the city..." Like he said- if she tried to make it now, she very well might wake up on the bottom of the seabed days later... or not at all. The thought was not a pleasant one. She cocked her head and narrowed her eyes. "You won't show me the way to the city now, or you won't show me at all? I need help, I don't know where I'm going... And where am I to go for rest, exactly? Is there a small community nearby?"

Okay thanks! I'll look into that haha))

Tyler kept an eye on the mermaid, though he glanced around warily. You always had to be on the lookout when hanging around just talking at the entrance to the biggest trench in the ocean holding the biggest monster in the ocean. He could see, though, that the mermaid seemed to be... lightening up. Or, drooping down if you wanted to be exact. In any case, it seemed like she might agree to what he had proposed. Tyler could also tell that she wasn't an idiot, so she would most likely agree because she knew she couldn't get more than a couple miles.

Tyler cocked his head very slightly as he saw her takke a deep breath to reply. At the mermaids words he didn't show any reaction, but he really was relieved. Not that he wanted to help in any way... his whole life after the war had been taking care of sea creatures, planting gardens, making sure the urchins didn't eat too much, making sure the otters got enough. Tyler felt like he should help this mermaid, also. Hopefully. -I mean, what's the worst that could happen?- Tyler thought wryly. They would have to go through the danger zone, or place of no return. They would have to survive each other, which would be hard because of Tyler's ... hardness. Stubborness. Coldness. They might find the flower... but they would have to survive getting it. Tyler knew it was heavily *booby-trapped* as the people above said. Even if they survived that much, there was a good chance Tyler would get killed trying to swim back to his hut. -Yipee- He thought about as dull as a brain could think.

Tyler stiffened a tiny bit when the mermaid locked gazes with him. He just wasn't used to that... he was used to being treated like the bottom of the food chain. The underdog, as the people above said. When she said she would accept his offer of help -Mind me, which was very harshly given- Tyler thought grumpily, though he cleared those thoughts from his mind. "That answer can go two ways. If you want to find the flower as fast as possibe, I won't show you at all. If you want to take quite a while finding another guide in the city to bring you to the flower, then I won't show you right now." Tyler said simply, though he knew his answer seemed complicated. When the mermaid asked where she was going to rest Tyler didn't move, but he thought for a moment. -Nobody out here is brave... or stupid... enough to make their home this close to where Chaos dwells. That means... technically... the best option...- Tyler knew he was stalling in his mind. "I know a hut, over there. Maybe only a mile." Tyler said quietly, deciding not to announce it might possibly be his because he was very unhappy about this.

Raine nodded again, taking in his words. He was adamant not to show her to the city, but whether that was because he hated the city, didn't care enough to tell her where it was, or both, she didn't know. Either way, he wasn't going to show her at all, so she'd have to find another way to get there or find accompaniment. But would she find someone willing to help her get to the plant? The merman's demeanour suggested that it was a dangerous trip, and maybe not one worth taking in his opinion. If he was reluctant, others would be.

"I think I can make a mile, thank you," she said, the edges of her mouth twitching up in a hesitant smile. She would be better off with some rest. Her body and mind needed it for would could possibly be a journey to the edge of death itself. The thought clutched her mind in a vice grip and she shuddered.

"How dangerous is the way to Oprianna's Seaberry, exactly?" Raine had a feeling that he knew, but whether he would tell her or not was the real question.

Tyler thought about what he was comitting to at the moment. -So technically I'm okay with dying? Well it might be better than the life I have at the moment- He thought sourly, but then focused on what would happen if he did help this mermaid and show her the way to the berry. -I would have to show her the whole way there, help her get the berry, then come all the way back. Sounds easy- Tyler thought to shine some hope on the hopeless situation. He actually felt slightly bad for the Fae's... having a Queen die would be something you needed to prevent. At all costs. -Maybe they are nicer than the mermaids and mermen- Tyler thought

He then focused his attention on the mermaid. "You're quite welcome." Tyler said rather gruffly, still thinking about what was going to happen if this worked out perfectly... and what would happen if it didn't work out at all. When the girl asked the dreaded question, Tyler tipped his head with a slight sigh. "The lie... we'll be perfectly fine and get there in a couple days." Tyler arched an eyebrow. "The truth? It's hell underwater." Was what he finished with. "First you would encounter the underwater volcanoes, which are deadly. Then the underwater hot fountains, which are deadly. Then the trenches and caves, which are deadly. And last the valley of monsters, where hundreds of animals like the one you just met live. Also deadly." Tyler explained the best he could, while putting it nicely. "The whole land is called different things... Danger Zone, No Man's Water, Place of No Return..." Tyler trailed off with a slight huff of air.

"You're other option is to go to the city. They have a heavily guarded berry there. You can plead for help for the next three months, just to have them say no." Tyler offered unhelpfully, knowing that sounded easier than the other way... but it wasn't. "Sadly if you choose that path, you're queen will be dead before you even see the mermen's king." Tyler said sourly, looking slightly anrgy. Not at the mermaid, though. He left out the part that he had gotten through the Danger Zone before... mostly because she hadn't asked and Tyler wasn't going to just say something like that.
