Iris nodded, and kicked a rock herself. "Cool. Oh haha, no pun intended." She added, then went silent again. The campus was large, and walking around it would take probably about an hour.

Caden laughed, the timing of her words having been perfect. "It's a nice little town though, you get enough to survive. Say....take that car there," He pointed at an old Nissan. "Bash it with a sledgehammer a few times and you'll have a lovely average one." The man mused, chuckling. "Sure wasn't pretty but, it was just different. Settled quickly, knew everybody, got homesick after a day since you just missed the place."

Iris smiled. She could almost imagine a home where someone wanted you, instead of sending you off to college the second they could. "Speaking of cars..." She said, looking at Caden curiously. "How'd you come by that one of yours? I haven't seen a car that expensive in a long time."

Caden stopped breathing for a second---she wanted to know, about it? "When I was 16 I started getting into stocks, blew up and started making a whole lot off of that. Lived with my mom and bought her all sorts of things, obviously. Then, she go diagnosed with cancer and I started burying myself in the money. She unfortuantely passed but, will forever live on. Afterwards I started doing petty things for gangs which got me even more money before I evetually started my own buisness, that alone racking in millions each year. Back home i've got McLarens, Bugatti's, anything you can think of I have." He explained, acting like it was casual to say.

Iris listened as he talked. She'd had no idea he was so... Well, rich. And what was this about his mother dying? And something about gangs? Caden wasn't turning out to be who she thought he was, and she didn't know what to do about it. Just act normal. That was the best thing to do. "I'm sorry about your mom." She was ashamed to think that she'd almost rather her own mother die than keep pestering her about getting a guy.

Caden nodded, glad to hear those words. "Glad I got out of the gangs, worst mistake i've made in many many years." He explained, rubbing his temple as a chill pricked his skin.

Iris breathed a visible sigh of relief at his remark, then said, "And what about your father?" She realized immediately that it could be a tender subject, but it was too late to take it back now. Edited at September 27, 2025 11:18 PM by Fantasy Horses

Caden froze for a slight second, gaze staring at the ground. "Abusive, lot of bad memories linked to him." He muttered, hoping she'd switch topics.

Iris regretted speaking. She stared at the ground, biting her lip. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked." She thought for a second before changing the subject. "What classes are you in? I haven't seen you around so we probably don't share any."

Caden nodded, flicking his gaze away as the memories flooded back in. "Math obviously, physics, and a few science classes." He informed, though his voice seemed distant.
