Quinn tried to shift slightly so her blurry eyes could look around, but pain stabbed through her stomach, causing her to hiss. Darn, that hurt! She closed her eyes for a couple seconds as the world slowly stopped spinning, then focused on his words. "But if I am too.. hurt, they won't have anything to eat..." Quinn pressed her lips together in worry and pain, trembling slightly. She hated to be reminded of this, hated to be reminded of her wretched time in that village. Hated to be reminded how stupid she had been near Jack. How had she misjudged him so horribly? At his question, she dragged herself out of her miserable guilty thoughts. "Like I got stabbed." She whispered, smiling weakly. Her face darkened at his words, especially the second ones. She wanted Jack to die. However, the tiny part of her that was gentle and kind felt horribly. "Sage... I know you hate him, and I hate him, and you have a right to.. but... please just make it quick." She mumbled, not knowing how to put it. She felt emotions broiling in her stomach, but she was too tired to do anything. "I'm so sorry..." Quinn finally murmured, tears leaking out of her eyes from pain and regret and guilt and sorrow. She felt like she cried way more lately. Why was she so weak.

Sage winced slightly when he noticed the girl's wince and heard the hiss of air that had escaped her mouth. "Don't worry about that right now," he murmured. "You weren't hit anywhere major....you'll heal up soon. And they'll be fine," he hummed. "We have some milk stored for the next bit of time anyway," he pointed out gently. Her attempt at a joke really wasn't all that funny, but he offered her a tight smile anyway. "Maybe I should be more worried, you're making dad jokes now," he teased her gently, just tryign to cheer her up a bit. He was quiet for a bit, until she started crying and then he sort of just blinked downa t her, clearly shocked. "Sorry for what," he sort of yelped, moving to shake his head and lean over over to wipe her tears away, pressing kisses all over her face. He wrapped his arms around her, just nodding when she said to make it quick. Well, he wouldn't drag it on too long, he supposed...if that was what she wanted. For now though, he just...held her. Held her until she'd calmed down and drifted off again. It wasn't long after that that he heard jack stir outside, so he slid away from her quietly and mvoed to grab the other man and drag him off. He'd make this quick enough...mostly because he didn't want quinn to wake up and freak out if he wasn't there. Or if the babies needed something.

Quinn closed her eyes again, breathing out slowly. "It's my job to worry. I can't help but worry. It's in my DNA." She responded quietly, glad to hear she hadn't been hit anywhere super major. It felt like she had been, but then again, it just hurt. "Good." She whispered at the milk thing, glad - very glad - she would have to feed them for a little bit. She could tell he didn't find her words funny, so she shut up, especially since talking just seemed to make it worse. The pain, anyway. "You should be worried. Dad jokes aren't my specialty." She mumbled with a faint smile, but it was gone as soon as it came. Emotions just seemed to take over in her mind, and none of them were good. "Sorry for THIS. If it weren't for me, Jack would've gone back, and we never would've even learned his name. He wouldn't have come back. I wouldn't have left and hurt you. This is ALL my fault, and now you're going to have to take care of me until I can actually walk." She replied, squeezing her eyes shut tightly to try and stop the tears, her voice trembling. She opened her eyes to look at him as he leaned in, trying to remember to breathe. Her eyes slowly closed from exhaustion, then she passed out. When she finally awoke again, she was too drowsy to notice anything for a couple seconds. The first thing she did notice was that Sage wasn't there. Panic flared in her chest, and her breath caught, but she managed to calm herself down, reminding herself that Sage was a capable person who wasn't going to get hurt. He was going to be fine. She was going to be fine. Quinn wanted, so badly, to get up and go make sure Caspian and Frynn were okay, but her feeble attempts ended in failure.

Sage had chuckled softly in response to her comments, just focusing on calming the girl down as she babbled. "You were being nice," he murmured. "I probably would have killed him without a second thought, which would have been an issue if he wasn't such as asshole," he added. "None of this is your fault," he purred softly, just curling around her tightly, though not enough to hurt her of course. Though, he did get up rather quickly when he noticed Jack waking up, and just grabbed the man by an ankle, dragging him down along the forest slowly, not really caring that the other man was now wriggling around and yelping as he realized he was no longer on the grass. Once they got far enough away that he knew any screams wouldn't wake Quinn or anything, he tossed Jack a few feet away from him and then simply waited for the guy to scramble to his feet, knowing he'd be mad enough to try and fight. And he was very, very ready to get some decent hits in.

Jack struggled to get out of Sage's grasp, then bounced up as the guy let go. He immediately yelped in pain, hand flying to his jaw. "Hey! Get away from me!" He snapped, lunging towards Sage in anger. He grabbed at Sage's throat, no weapons left, just trying to get the upper hand before all was lost. - Quinn trembled slightly as she groped at the side of the bed to try and pull herself up. She blinked quickly, holding back a cry of pain as she dragged herself out of the bed, clutching at the wall. She staggered along, into the main room, where the babies were sleeping. Relief flitted across his expression for a second, but was immediately replaced by pain. She then collapsed on the couch, feeling like she had to hold in her insides. After she stopped feeling like she was going to throw up, she picked up Frynn, just cuddling with the still sleeping child. She just needed the comfort of knowing they were there. Sage wasn't. She wanted Sage to come back.

Sage had grinned when Jack lept at him, chuckling slightly in resposne to his comment and loosing a hard punch in the center of his chest, easily knocking the other man away. "I told you to do that, you know. To stay away from me and my family," he mused, voice low and dangerous. "You didn't listen," he added, now advancing on the man, lips twisting into a snarl. "This was the third time you've not listened and done something to us," he snarled, eyes glittering as he hit Jack again, sending him sprawling. "Three strikes, you're out," he hissed. "Isn't that a game you humans play," he sort of crooned, now just toying with jack as he pushed him around, landing decently hard punches here and there until he simply crouched down so he was eye to eye with him, having thoroughly terrified him beyond imagine. "You did this to yourself, jack," he mused. "Don't ever kick a wolf, and don't ever mess with his family. We protect them with a passion you would never be able to know or understand," he growled, an arm shooting out to grab his throat, reaching all the way around his neck easily, watching the terror shoot through Jack's eyes as he cut off his oxygen. "Count yourself lucky I'm killing you quickly," he added in a low growl before snapping the man's neck and dumping him in the river they were next to. He let out a heavy breath and watch the body turn the corner before moving to wach the blood off his hands and get back to the cabin. He panicked when Quinn wasn't where he left her, though he could smell and hear her with the babies in the other room. He scrambled over there, at her side immediately. "what the hell are you doing," he squeaked, frantically checking her over. "You could've bleed out or something. hurt yourself," he added worridly. He obviously wasn't mad...it had just scared him a bit. She'd just been stabbed....she wasn't supposed to be up and around. "If you want to go soemwhere let me carry you. At least for a couple days," he sighed, grabbign Caspian and curling up next to her, calming down a bit now that he was sure she was alright.

Jack tried to grip at Sage, and tried to fight back, but it was too late. He knew he was going to lose. Terror overcame his gaze, and then... it was all over. No more Jack! - Quinn closed her eyes and focused on breathing, her stomach feeling like it was exploding in pain. Sharp jabs just radiated through her side every couple of seconds, and it made her want to puke, but she had a feeling that would hurt even worse. She was so thankful Frynn was asleep, and she just had something to.. clutch onto, really. Panic and fear flared in her vision as she heard footsteps, then a door, as her first thought was that Jack had somehow managed to escape. She knew it was... impossible, really, but it still scared her nevertheless. When she saw Sage, she immediately let out a relieved breath, wincing in pain. "I'm... sitting." She answered quietly, closing her eyes for a couple seconds again, dizziness filtering into her mind. "I just didn't want the kids to be alone... I didn't want to be alone." She mumbled, glancing at him as she spoke again. "Carrying me may just hurt even more. I can't just do nothing...'" Quinn pleaded, shaking her head. "There's so much to get done, and now I'm just stuck." She half hissed, burying her face into her arm and focusing on Frynn's fluttery heartbeat.

Sage had sighed in response to Quinn's comment, knowing she'd want to do things for herself. She was an independent person....and that was ok, but he didn't want her to get hurt while he was gone. "Quinn, you just helped me get around for over a week," he snorted. "Let me help for a while," he added gently, though he nodded when she said she hadn't wanted to be alone. "I won't be leaving your side for a while," he promised. "But I do need to cook those rabbits from earlier," he added, pursing his lips as he thought. "Do you want to stay inside or come out? I can bring out a chair and get you settled if you want," he murmured, head cocking slightly. "that way you can help but still stay sitting down," he added.

Quinn glanced at him with a small sigh of her own. "That's my JOB. Plus I love you." She huffed. "I'm not trying to be rude, but your garden skills need some help.." She paused, a flicker of a smile coming upon her face. "And you shouldn't be trapped in here to tidy up and clean forever. I like doing that, and it's necessary, but I have a feeling you won't enjoy it as much as me. Add all the making of food on top of that, taking care of the babies, hunting, and doing whatever else you do." She chuckled weakly, but the movement was painful, and she decided not to do it again. Wincing, she continued. "I just feel bad that I get to sit here on my butt and do nothing while you're working away." She finished a bit gloomily, her gaze flitting down. It'd probably hurt her more than it would him, but that wasn't the point. "Thank you." She mumbled, as an answer to his statement about not leaving her. She then shook her head. "Outside. I can go outside. I'm not staying in here." Quinn replied hurriedly, the thought of possibly being able to help a little lightening her mood. Slightly. The dull throb in her stomach still sucked, especially when she moved, as it sharpened to a stab. Edited at July 13, 2024 07:47 PM by Wild West Warmbloods

Sage had chuckled softly in resposne to her comment. "Well it's my job to help you and the kids," he mused. Then he gave her a grin. 'Wolves usually have a whole litter...I think I can handle the two of them and an adult for a while until you don't hurt so much and won't bleed out everywhere if you slip or something," he noted, pressing a quick kiss to her lips. "I sat on my butt for the past week," he msued. "take some time to relax, There's nothing to feel bad about." He nodded when she said she wanted outside, so he settled Caspian down, as the boy was already falling asleep in his arms, and set him in his bed before doing the same to Frynn and then reaching over to gently scoop Quinn up and wander out the door with her, settling her in one of the lawn chairs he'd constructed from tree stumps and such a while back. He set up the fire, then let Quinn put herbs and such on them, and cook like she normally did.
