Sage shrugged. "We can stay within the castle grounds." Then he chuckled. "And don't worry, if something crazy does happen, I'll just chuck a knife at them and we'll be fine." He didn't really think anything would happen, especially not inside the castle grounds, but he would be aware. And if it really came to it, Luther could be of some help in a fight, he supposed. Though, he'd much rather take care of it himself with no risk to the other two.

Anya nodded gently before making a uturn towards the stables. There'd be hands down there to get the horses tacked up and if they're not going to be out for long no one would miss them. Besides, it wasn't like they were doing anything wrong... a ride around the castle gardens would be nice, and if they were wrapped up enough they could enjoy the winter scenery. "Alright then." She supposed it could be a little but boring... especially if they were staying around the castle. Anya and Luther had been around here more times than they could count, and Sage probably would have found his way about by now. She was still a bit nervous to leave the castle, but if Sage and Luther wanted to go for a wander without her later, then that'd be fine.

Sage nodded and walked at a pretty leisurely pace as they made their way toward the barns. Surely Anya and Luther would know what horse they liked most, just as he did, and if they didn't then they'd be fine with whichever one they got. When they got to the barns, sage slipped off to the back of the barn where he grabbed the horse he'd enjoyed being with from the pasture out back behind the stalls. They had pretty similar personalities, at least he thought so. The big black stallion even looked a bit like sage ...they were skinny but strong, and they both tended to look grumpy 24/7. The horse pranced around as sage led him back into the barn. Well, he said led, but he wasn't using tack, he just held into the mane and the horse pranced right next to him. No doubt Luther and Anya would be using tack...sage normally didn't, as he found it more comfortable to go bareback...it was how he learned. Or, taught himself. Well, he could wait. Maybe jog the horse around a bit...he had plenty of energy. He didn't know the horses name...none of the knights used him and no one really worked with him. But sage had found him and enjoyed his company.

Anya waddled along to the stables, politely asking a stable boy to tack up her own gelding, Rolo. She wandered to the door, where the gelding was munching away happily... he wasn't anything special temperament wise, but he was bold and safe, and would carry Anya through anything. He had been a gift from a few kingdoms over... and had apparently carried their king through war. But he was settled here, and enjoyed the occasional hack or journey with the girl. Like a nanny to the more spritely horses. He was pretty as far as horses went. Liver chestnut, with four white socks and an incredibly thick blaze. He was lean, like a thoroughbred, tackled with muscle, stood at about 15.3hh, and had a few scars on his hind legs from his hunting days. In the stable next door was Luther mare, who went by the exiting name of 'Mare', or girl, or whatever thrilling thing he willing to call her at the time. She was bigger, standing at roughly 17.2hh. Bred for the prince himself. Being irish bred, she was built like a tank, but it rather suited the boy. Steely grey dapples covered her grey coat, making her look like she was made of iron. She was pretty chilled out too... though, was dancing around a little when they were brought out into the courtyard or the young royals, all tacked up and ready for them. Anya skipped out and was closely followed by Luther, who was dragging his feet. At some point, Anya had assigned him to chief of leg-ups... which meant she had basically forced him to chuck her on the horse whenever she asked. He boosted the girl up onto the saddle before taking the reins of his own mare. "Sage, you ready?" he called, swinging a leg onto his own mount.

Sage heard Luther call out, and apparently the stallion he was on did to, because his head shot up and he snorted, prancing to the side in a type of defensive way. Sage grunted and poked the horses neck with a grumble of "chill out, dude," before leading the horse out near the others. He hopped up onto the tall horse easily and grinned at Luther. "I've been ready," he chuckled. 'i didn't have to tack up." He didn't mind waiting though, although the horse might have disagreed....he was half trotting in circles, much like a racehorse might before a race started...energized and ready to run. He looked similar to an Arabian...tall, slim, and the chisled face showed fine breeding, though crossed. Edited at October 7, 2022 02:04 PM by NightClan

Luther grunted a type of laugh as he watched Sage mess with the horse a little before pushing his mare on to walk. It seemed like they just needed to get moving until this horse chilled out. Come to think of it, Luther had never seen the horse before. It was odd that Sage had gone and picked it up, especially when they had a tonne of well backed horses in the stables. But whatever, he seemed happy with it. He glanced over at Anya, who was just giggling. "You know, that thing probably has tack somewhere... might make it easier to ride," she chuckled softly, gently patting her own gelding as his ears pricked up. The chances were that the horse Sage was on was going to set the other two off a little, but that would just make it fun. "Where did you even find him? Out in the paddock?" The horses in the paddock were normally ones they'd sell off... either because they weren't sound enough to be apart of the cavalry, or because they were just too much blood.

Sage chuckled and patted the stallions neck softly. "Actually I first found him wandering around in the apple orchard a ways out of his paddock," he chuckled. "He has a good sense of humor." Then he shrugged. "But yeah, he was out in a back paddock somewhere." He didn't really know or care why, but the horse deserved a bit of excersize....not to just wander in a paddock all day when he had so much energy. It was no wonder he'd gotten out somehow....he was probably bored. Sage made a face at Anyas comment about being hard to ride without tack. "It's more comfortable this way. I learned without tack so it's just easier."

Anya wrinkled her nose slightly when he mentioned bareback was more comfortable... she simply couldn't agree there. Horses backs without muscle... well, they were razor blades. Luther though, his face went pale just thinking about it. "It's hard to agree with you there," he murmured with a choke of a laugh. Anya was kind of just trying to figure out how he could stay so balanced, especially considering his horse was kind of being a pratt. "I'm pretty sure I heard my mother talking about this one... he's being sold I'm pretty sure. His buyer is over seas, going to be used as a stud from what I can gather." She shrugged, glancing at the horse with a slight huff. "Looking at him, I'm not sure I'd want to see what kind of monsters he'd produce." She noted with a chuckle, leaning forwards and fiddling with her own geldings mane.

Sage chuckled and gave Luther a knowing look....bareback was only comfortable if he sat in a certain position, he could admit that. As a guy, he could agree, it had to potential to be incredibly painful if he landed wrong. Though, as long as he sat back enough he was fine. He grinned down at the stallion. "Looks like you and me are in for the same future then, bud," he chuckled, making a kind of light joke about his work at the tavern. He was at the point where he didn't mind a joking about it...he didn't enjoy it, of course, but that was something he could do. At least, when he wasn't actually working. But hey, he could make a joke to the horse. He wasn't going overseas like the horse, but he could make light of the situation he supposed. Edited at October 7, 2022 04:41 PM by NightClan

Anya gave a slight chuckle at his little joke, though it wasn't overly funny on her part. She wanted him to let her stop the whole tavern thing, but that wasn't going to happen. "Yeah, well, people are going to pay a hell of a lot for him... both his buyer and their clients," She hummed slightly, making a turn towards the woodlands just behind the castle. It was still within the walls, but there was plenty of room to mess around. Rolo was getting a little bit bouncy, letting out small snorts as they went further and further along the track. It was a straight track, one that had been pretty turned up from the cavalry horses working their fitness. He was a chill horse, he really was, but his hot blood still gave him some... kick. Which, of course, he would be boring without.
