Flo took a few running steps then stopped, backing up when he rammed against the door. She gasped and was about to try to help when the lights cut out, making her stumble into a wall. She took a sharp breath then choaked on the dust before regaining her breath. By the time she could breath and see again, Sage was gone. "Sage?" she called, stumbling around in the dark. There wasn't much light because of the heavy black smoke still circulating outside. She could hear ragged breathing, so she followed the sounds until she stumbled upon a room. "Sage?" she breathed, her eyes straining to see who was making the noise. She saw Sages silhouette hunched over a figure on the bed. "Who is that" she asked, moving toward the patient. "oh!" she gripped the girls hand as her eyes adjusted to the light. It was Grace. of all the people in the hospital, he was trying to save her friend first. Florida told herself that it was just a coincidence. that he would help anyone that was in need of helping, but she knew that Grace's room was a few rooms down from the closet. There were atleast two patients he could've stopped at first but he didn't. Flo gulped and watched Grace's face

Sage glanced up at Florida when she stumbled into the room. He swallowed, trying to catch his breath enough to rasp "open the cabinet next to the big red cart. Pull out one of the tubes in the left hand drawer and the blue bag looking things," he instructed breathlessly, lungs burning. He was determined to do his best though, for at least one person. He might be able to help her. When the girl brought him the tube and bag, he shifted slightly. "Now do what I'm doing. This pace. As hard as you can," he instructed briefly, before moving to the girls head and sliding the tube in her throat. CPR was hard , but it only took around fifteen seconds for him to intubate the girl. "Now squeeze this bag, every three seconds," he said, going back to keep at the cpr for her. "It'll breath for her. Hopefully she'll wake up with the meds I pushed," he said added.

Florida did as she was told, grabbing the tube and bag and rushing back over to him. She handed him the items then put her hands on Grace's chest, pressing as hahrd as she could in the same intervals that Sage did. Her arms were shaking by the time Sage had taken her place and told her to squeeze the bag. "1,2,3" she squeezed then counted again "1,2,3" Her eyes were wide as she operated the bag. She glanced over at Sage as he pushed against Grace's chest.

Sage knew he sould be talking to the girl....reassuring her or explaining things or....something. But his mind was a whirl, and he could barely breathe, and right now he was just focused on his patient. "Does she have any family you could call," he rasped after a moment, glancing over at Florida from where she was standing. He didn't know if they'd be alive, or if they'd be able to get here or not, but they deserved to know if they were here. He wasn't sure what was going to happen, but either way having them here would be good, at least for them and the girl. But he was getting tired, and they couldn't keep this up forever.

She had kinda blocked out the world, focusing on the counting in her head. it took her a few seconds to process what he said and give a reply. "oh. yeah." She mentally reminded herself of their number. She was glad Grace had made her memorize it for a piece of candy years ago

Sage nodded breathlessly and sighed. "Call them while you do that," he told her. "I can at least keep her alive long enough so that they can say goodbye," he murmured. "But I won't be able to charge the defibrillator without electricity, which means as soon as I stop she'll die," he added softly. "It's been too long anyway....even if I got her heart going she'd be brain dead," he sighed. He'd wanted to save her...he'd tried really hard. Hell, he was still trying. His arms had gone numb by then though, and he could feel the beads of sweat running down his face and neck. And he couldn't breathe....and his arm was still bleeding, which was slightly concering. He may have been injured in other places, too. But right now, all he wanted to do was give someone a chance to say goodbye to their daughter. That's all that mattered right then.

She fumbled with her phone, calling Grace's parents as she squeezed the bag. She looked at Sage and sighed as the phone rang. She looked down at grace and held back tears. When her parents didn't anser she tried again. On the thid time, a voice rang over the speaker. "Mrs. Fullerton. I need you to come to the hospital by the school. Its Grace..." the breath of relief made tears well up in Florida's eyes. "please. Shes- shes not- just come quickly" She stayed on the phone for a moment until she heard crying on the other line. She hung up, letting her phone drop to the floor and gripping the bag. She couldn't cry. Not now. Grace was going to be okay

Sage nodded as someone finally picked up the phone, shoulders relaxing slightly. "They're coming," he asked softly, and nodded when he got a positive answer. "good," he added as he let out a breath. Breathing was getting harder by the minute, and now he was dizzy too...but he didn't care. Though, he blinked the sweat out of his eyes and looked over at the other girl. "it's ok to cry," he said gently. "You're losing a friend. This whole situation sucks." He couldnt say anything more, since he was coughing again by then, but eventually forced himself to stop despite the painful tightening of his chest.

Her bottom lip trembled when he spoke, but she fought the tears. She couldn't cry. Not when there was still a chance of her survival. She could tell he was struggling to just exist, so she thought of a way to switch. "you need a break. Ill do that and you squeeze." She offered

Sage glanced over at the girl when she spoke up again, nodding after a momyand giving her a thankful look. When she got tired he'd take over again, but he was grateful for the break, however small it might be. So he slid off the girl with a grunt and moved to squeeze the bag, switching places with Florida for a while. "how far away do her parents live," he asked. It was going to determine how long they had to do this.
