Sage scrunched his face up and sat down next to Luther, though he was still fidgety...he was still keyed up from...well, everything. "I honestly have no idea. Anya figured out that a rebellion might be happening and got snappy, and I'm horrible with emotions so I may have pushed her too far. She needed some time alone to think so I came out here I guess. Feels more like home." He flipped the knife around while he talked absentmindedly, rolling it between his knuckles and such. He wasn't really hungry ..he'd just eaten a bit ago, and he still wasn't used to eating much. He didn't want to get too used to this kind of life....he'd have to leave soon. "To be completely honest, I needed to just get away from the whole castle environment." He stared over at the trees and lifted a shoulder in a shrug. "It's quite obvious I don't belong here. I'll probably leave soon."

Luther rummaged around his little basket, picking up a sandwich and biting into it, and munching away happily as he listened in. He paused for a moment, finishing his mouthful before squinting his eyes at him. "Really? You want to go back out there?" He scoffed slightly, shaking his head with an almost amused look on his face. It was an odd concept for him... why would you want to go back somewhere so awful? He had, well, everything here, and Luther knew that Anya was making sure of that. He still wasn't sure why the girl had brought Sage back, but he was glad she did. He was often alone when he came out here, and Anya hadn't been overly interested in him until a few months back. But he had another guy his age to mess around with now. He didn't want that to end. But, he wasn't wrong. Sage didn't belong here. Even if he looked the part, they all knew it. His eyes widened slightly as he realized what he had said. "Wait, a rebellion? No wonder she was upset." He murmured before looking back towards him. "You can't go, then. Not until everyone is calm about this rebellion thing, or else they'll think you've got something to do with it." He noted thoughtfully. That, and knew Anya liked him, at very least in a friendly way. Everyone in the castle did at this point, and they all knew that the girl would be distraught if he left at a time like this.

Sage made a face and shrugged. "No, it sucks out there, especially in the winter when there's less food than usual. But it's what I'm used to. I can be myself out there." He sighed and started sharpening his dagger with a rock out of habit...a dull weapon was a useless one. Most of his free time was generally spent sharpening weapons or trying to find food or water, or even shelter if he felt like it. "Anya's pretty upset, but I can't make her feel any better since she's shutting me out because she thinks I don't understand what she's feeling. Something about it being different than my case, though almost getting killed is kinda the same for everyone, no matter how much more I've had to deal with attackers." He looked over at Luther and cocked his head, scanning the boy. "You'll be king...have you ever been in a battle? Actually killed anyone?" As a king he'd have to...he'd have to be trained as a knight and receive battle experience before leading a kingdom. But the boy still looked soft... he didn't have any scars, and he didn't have that look in his eyes that all who had killed had, Sage included. He was good at picking that subtle sign up, and Luther looked like he hadn't seen a day of war in his life, at least on the battlefield or aftermath of a fight.

Luther pierced his lips slightly, thinking for a moment as he lent forward and put the basket on the ground. "I can't say I have." He murmured slightly before sitting back again. "I've been training - since I was ten or eleven, but that's about it. I'm afraid there haven't been any arising wars that lasted long enough for me to get out onto a battlefield. Why do you ask?" He shrugged slightly before shaking his head. Now, Luther was a big kid, really. He was fine admitting that, and everyone knew it anyway. At least, those who bothered to know him. Towards most of his servants, he was a pretty scary guy... not at all friendly. Loud, and rude. Which was why Anya had been so spiteful towards him a few months back. No one really ever questioned his experience in battle, they kind of just accepted he'd be king no matter what, so his experience on the field didn't matter. He hummed a thought for a moment. "Anya scares herself. It'll start small and then she'll get all in her head. And she's not nice when she's like that." He grumbled slightly, his eyes rolling as he spoke. "If she's convinced that the situation you're in isn't the same, then it'll stay that way, I'm afraid. Just be there for her," He shrugged before looking back towards the gates, where the guards were switching their shifts. They and the knights were swapping over with their training... of which was louder than it'd been before. "Hey, what did you do when you were out in the town? Were you like... a hit man or something?"

Sage grunted and shrugged. "You'll have to kill once you become king." Then he rolled his eyes. "Anya can be a pretty stobborn kid. If she's set her mind on that far be it for me to argue with her," he chuckled lightly. Then he shrugged. "She's not getting rid of me quite yet I suppose." He found it amusing when Luther asked if he was a hit man. He chuckled again and gave the boy a look. "If I were a hit man I wouldn't be starving on a daily basis," he pointed out. "I work at a tavern. I just kinda do whatever it is that the tavern owner tells me to. Sometimes it's cleaning, serving, cooking, rooms, all of it." He left the topic of rooms open...if Luther wanted to talk about it more they could, and he could think it was just cleaning rooms. It was up to him...and Sage was up to talking with him, since they'd gotten along and Luther seemed like a sincere guy.

Luther nodded slightly, propping his chin up on his arm after reaching for another sandwich. He didn't know what happened out on the streets, and really, he couldn't care less about it. But Sage was... his friend? Maybe? and he wanted to understand where he was coming from. He didn't get what he was saying, but kind of nodded along before scrunching his face up in a confused manner. "Rooms? I had no idea that taverns had a bed and breakfast. So you go around cleaning up after people, I assume? fun." He noted in a slightly more sarcastic tone. He scrunched his face up again before letting out a short breath. "I suppose you're right, about killing. But I'm going to hold off on that the best I can. I'd like to... err... keep my innocence, if you could say that." He chuckled jokingly, munching away on his snack.

Sage chuckled and shrugged. 'well then I suppose if someone attacks you I'd better be there to keep you hands clean," he half joked spinning the knife around. He made a sour face. "I'm not a very good cleaner. Ita not fun working for three days straight nonstop when all I'm doing is practically working myself to death for practically no pay." He shrugged. "rooms are...more than cleaning," he admitted softly. "I suppose you should know that if you're gonna be...somewhat nice to me."

Luther cocked his head slightly as he ran through what he said, quite obviously a little confused before his eyes widened a little. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, but just kind of grunted a little. Well, what was he meant to say to that? It wasn't like he could brush over it. He sat himself upright again before looking over at him with a slightly raised brow. "I don't imagine any kind of cleaning is fun." He murmured, still thinking of how to reply. He tried for a moment to think of what Anya would have said - she probably know - most likely something reassuring. His lip curled after a few moments of silence before finally managing to speak. "Damn," was all he could manage for a moment. "If you do whatever the owner says then I assume you don't get much of a choice then?" He noted, his tone a little more curious. If Sage wasn't comfortable talking about it... well, he assumed he wouldn't have brought it up in the first place.

Sage noted the slight curiosity in Luther's voice when he finally spoke again. He glanced over at the guy again and shook his head no. 'i just get dragged around," he said in a slightly amused voice. That was one way to put it. Dragged around, pinned down, hurt, whatever...It counted as getting dragged around. "I get out of it when I can by cleaning...but I can't just never sleep. Thats the only way I might get a few hours of sleep." He shrugged and looked back out over the garden, still playing with the life in his hands. "I don't like it, but that's the way it goes if I want to eat." He scrunched his face up slightly. "Not that it does much," he admitted. "It helped when I had to care for Liz." Then it occured to him Luther probably had no idea who that was. "My little sister," he explained. He didn't say she was dead, that was still a touchy subject for him, but he was willing to talk with Luther about it if he asked.

Luther nodded slowly, his brows slightly furrowed as he did so. He didn't understand why someone would keep a job like that, but he supposed if it was the only way to put food on the table, then so be it. He pouted a little when he mentioned his sister, trying to run through it again. It was all a little strange for him. Why couldn't they pick his sister up when they grabbed Sage? Especially if she was on the younger side of things. This wasn't Luther's kingdom, but he knew well enough it wasn't exactly a nice place. And that was just from the times he had ridden through it while traveling. "Is she still out there? I'm sure it's not a nice place for a child to be - assuming she's not alone, of course." He murmured looking towards the walls quietly. "And I don't understand why you'd have a job like that... being 'dragged around by whoevers willing to pay. Why don't you just, I dont know, quit? Find another job?" If Sage was willing to talk, then he was more than open. Anya had told him barely anything about the boy, so he could never figure out a way to start up a converstion. But the more they spoke the easier it'd be to chill out around eachother... or, that's what he hoped, at least.
