Sage smiled when her hand moved to his hair, just sort of letting himself drift in and out of sleep for another hour or so before he started getting hungry enough to wake up a bit. Mari was still curled up, but she'd be getting hungry too, so he pressed a light kiss to her lips with a soft hum. "I'll be right back," he noted, slipping out of bed and quickly padding down to the kitchen, setting up a tray with some food he knew Mari would enjoy. Shed been doing so much work....he figured making some breakfast in bed for the two of them would be nice. He moved back upstairs after a bit, slipping and in the room with a soft "hey," and settled down on the bed with the tray between them

Mari groaned... something incoherant as he moved, though a slight smile did prick the corner of her lips when he kissed her. She kind of just curled up more into herself, trying to hold onto whatever warmth was left. She sort of dozed right back off again, only really shifting again at the sound of his voice. She bling wryly at him, her brows pinched together as she tried to pin point when exactly he'd left, and when exactly he'd come back and where on earth the amazing smell was coming from. Eventually, though, her eyes landed on the tray, then took a glance back up at Sage. "Hi," she hummed softly. "What's this about?"

Sage chuckled softly when she finally spoke up, sliding in next to her and setting the trash down carefully with a sort of hum. "Well, you've been doing everything while I was at the doctors and gone, so I figured breakfast in bed would be nice," he noted, pressing a light kiss to her temple. "Besides, gives us an excuse to lay around up here a bit longer," he added with a laugh and playful wink. He was still somewhat tired....and he'd missed her, so this would be nice.

Mari kind of just stared at him for a moment, then a bit of a smile crossed her face. "Sage, babe, we dont need a reason to lay in bet a bit longer, we just... can," she chuckled softly after a moment or two. She then sort of cocked her head at him as he pecked her temple, and her curious look turned into something of pure joy. "But, yes, breakfast in bed is always lovely. Thank you," she murmured, kind of moving to rest her head against his shoulder as she decided what she actually wanted to eat first.

Sage hummed softly in amusement as she spoke, nodding along with a sort of shrug, though was careful not to spill anything. "I know," he noted with a chuckle. "I'm glad you think so," he added when she mentioned is was lovely, just watching her face light up happily. It pulled a wide grin to his face too, just sort of settling down against the headboard, wrapping an arm around her waist and using the other to grab a few bits of fruit from the tray. It was nice to have a slow morning like this....he'd certainly missed it.

Mari rather quickly found her way to the stuff she liked best... fruits and toast and the likes. It was nice, and she was glad to have Sage back. She'd missed him, more than he'd ever know. The thought stuck with her for a few minutes, and she found herself absentmindedly watching him. He looked so relaxed. She'd thought, for a while there, she wouldn't get to see that again. She'd never get to see the way his eyes lit up around the horses, or watch him play with the kids, or see how that dumb grin across his cheeks every time she kissed him. There was a very real chance he wouldn't have made it back to them, and it made her chest tighten in a way she'd never liked.

Sage had settled in pretty quickly, sort of picking at the things Mari didn't immediately go for. He figured he'd let her have what she wanted....he liked it all, and it didn't really matter much. He felt her gaze settle on him after a few minutes though, and he sort of glanced over at her with a small chuckle. "What," he sort of mused, going back to picking at the fruit there. She didn't really need to answer ...he was content to just watch her plenty of times. Really, he was still just glad that she was looking at him like that and not anything else. Anything worse. And the best part was that he knew that look would never change.

Mari seemed to find herself just watching him for a moment, her brows pinched together and that knot in her stomach tightening when he engaged with her. It was so... odd. She didn't understand why herself, but it made everything feel so temporary. She reminded herself to breathe for a moment, and sort of bit her tongue until she found words. "Nothing - I just missed you," she mused. She'd said it a few times now. She'd told him she missed him, told him she cared, but she didn't think she'd ever be able to convey just how much. "I was just thinking about what life would actually be like if you weren't here and-" she paused, her nose wrinking when she realised that she actually would stary crying if she didn't stop there, and just offered a somber looking grin.

Sage sort of cocked his head when she spoke, humming softly with a nod. "I know," he murmured, sort of pausing for a moment. He'd missed her too....he knew what she was feeling and thinking well enough. When she started talking though, he let out a soft breath and just tugged her into his side, arm tightening around her as he pressed a kiss to her head. "But I am here," he noted softly. "And I'm not going anywhere. Never again."

Mari shook her head slightly when he continued to tell her he wouldn't be going anywhere. It still all just felt... wrong. Like it wasn't going to last forever, and it was making her feel so sick. She leaned into him a little when he tugged her on, and sort of shifted onto her side to wrap an arm around him. "I just realised how easy it would be to lose you. For the kids to lose you," she murmured, her brows pinching together after a moment. She pecked his collar lightly and let out a slow breath. "It all just feels so... temporary."
