Dakota finished competing in the top spot before being dropped down to second because of a 0.02 second difference. She looked at the scoreboard and cussed under her breath. She walked Secret back over to her trailer, untacked the sow, and turned her loose into the trailer until they'd go home. Dakota couldn't keep her eyes off Nate, mesmerized and wondering if he would ever want her as she wanted him. He didn't seem to right now, but maybe he would in the future

Nate watched Dakota compete and then got Jackie out of the trailer, tacking her up and mounting the sow. He walked Jackie down to the little warm-up arena and passed Dakota. He smiled at her, "Hey, second place ain't too bad, you did good out there," he said as he walked by on his horse.
