Sage chuckled softly in response to her comment, sort of tilting his head back to give her a grin. "I think I've gone through every almost dying scenario there is already, so it's certainly not on my bucket list," he noted in a slight tone of amusement. He simply chuckled when she mentioned not forgiving him for it, letting her wash him off. She was being gentle he knew, even if he couldn't tell how bad the wounds were. When she mentioned how bad they were he just hummed in thought with a sort of nod, glancing down at his chest. "I suppose it should be used to it," he mused. "The whip at least." He wrinkled his nose. "Hopefully we can avoid anything else like this though," he noted softly. He was tired of having to go through shit just to keep their family happy and safe.

Mari nodded in agreement, his grin bringing a little smile across her face. At least he wasn't feeling too sorry for himself... he was still smiling and cracking jokes, and that was all she could ask for. He was still Sage, to the best of his abilities. "I think you steal lives off Amber sometimes," she mused. He'd certainly been through enough to have died ten times over. She supposed she could just be glad he was still alive. "We need to start looking after you a bit better, huh?" Yep. She was gonna wrap him up in bubble wrap after this. It had been far, far too lose. She shook her head quickly after a moment. No... this wasn't something he needed to get used to. It wasn't something anyone should be used to in any way. She gave him a bit of a look, her fingers sort of moving to his shoulders to start clearing him up. "It's not something you get used to, Sage. It's not something you need to get used to," she breathed softly after a moment or two. She knew what had happened in his past... and she couldn't take it away from him, but she did want to make sure the future had as little pain in if for Sage as she could. She nodded. "Nothing like this again," she whispered. "I'm sorry this happened, Sage," she admitted, pecking his cheek again before sort of opening the towel up for him.

Sage couldn't help but chuckle at Maris comment about the cat, cocking his head slightly. "Has she had her kittens yet," he asked curiously. She'd been ready to pop for a little while now, so if he was gone for a few days it was quite possible. "I suppose that does sound like a good plan, huh," he snickered softly, honestly just glad that he was still able to make Mari smile. He hummed softly in response to her last few comments, climbing out of the tub and into the towel with her help, slowly drying off and getting rebandaged and then slipping clothes on again. "It's wasn't your fault," he pointed out. "You did everything in your power to help." He offered her a small smile, pecking her lips lightly. "I missed you," he noted quietly, sort of just letting his head rest against her chest. He was sitting down on the edge of the tub by then, so he stayed like that for a moment before he yawned and leaned back again, reaching his hands out for her to help him up. He did feel much better now....but by the time he'd gotten back to bed and Mari had tied his hair back, he'd pretty much passed out again.

Mari shook her head at the question, humming softly. "Not yet. Not that I've heard anyway," she sighed. She did wonder, though... she sort of wanted Sage to be there when it happened. It was something he was excited for. Though, Sage was in no state to leave, and the Cat was far to pregnant to be moved around. She just hoped she could hold on for maybe another week so that Sage could be there for it. And the kids too, actually. She nodded after a second, sort of ruffling his hair up before helping him out the bath carefully. She was worried about him... she knew what he was like when he got stuck in places like this. He needed something to do. She'd figured she'd have to find something, but for now his only job was to get healed. She helped bandage him back up again, going incredibly slowly. She didn't want to hurt him at all... she knew he was drugged up, but the skin looked inflamed from the bath. Soon enough, though, they'd settled him down in bed and she couldn't help but watch him. She sort of took his hand gently in his, her thumb rubbing over the back of it. He did look peaceful when he slept. She supposed that wouldn't ever change. She did want to get thinking, though. See if there was anything she could do to make the house a safer place for them... at least to make it feel safer for now, anyway.

Sage had fallen into a deep sleep fairly quickly, sort of just resting lightly on his side. It would hurt less that way....and even though he couldn't feel too much right then, he knew from experience that laying on his side would be best. That side would be most sore, so he picked the one with less gashes on it. That way, his back and other side would heal better. He knew Mari was right there, which seemed to help with dreams. Or maybe that was the drugs...he wasn't entirely sure. The doctor had come to check up on him after a bit, and seemed happy with it all, giving Mari a quick hug before moving on to other patients. Sage woke up a while later...around dinner time he guessed, since he could smell the all too familiar gruel that patients who'd been malnourished were normally given. He wrinkled his nose, grumbling "please tell me I don't need to eat that shit again," before he'd even opened his eyes. Mari was still holding his hand....or maybe it was Edith. One of them, since he could feel the outline of the ring on their finger and it was definitely a woman's.

Mari found herself sitting next to him for hours, just sort of watching him. She hadn't realised how bad it had all been. She'd tried to play it all down for him, make it seem better than it was, but this was pretty bad. The state of his back was pretty horrific, and he had other wounds she really couldn't put her finger on. She didn't fully understand what he was saying about the slave traders needing adults, but she was slowlt starting to put peices together. It wasn't good, and if she was right in her thinking, what Sage had been though made her sick to her stomach. She knew he was brave... but this was inasne. How could he seem so normal after all of this? She hadn't even been back to their home... it seemed far too scary. It scared her... what if people were waiting for them when they got home? It wasn't good. It wasn't safe. She sort of glanced down to him, trying a gentle smile after a moment when he spoke. She sort of squeezed his hand, lifting it to press a light kiss to his knuckles before wiping his hair from his face. "Sorry, babe. You don't have a choice," she mused. When the maid came around, she took the plate and placed it carefully on the side table. "You know I'm gonna make you eat, right?" She mused.

Sage scowled when Mari apologized, opening his eyes when he felt her fingers on his face, giving her a sort of pout. "I always have a choice," he huffed. Although, he knew she was right, and he sighed after a moment and moved to shift so he could sit up, eyeing the bowl of goop warily. "Unfortunately," he grumbled. "Why does it have to be this," he grumbled, sort of crossing his arms over his chest, though he was careful to avoid the bullet wound. "There isn't anything else out there to eat in the whole damn castle?" He was grumbly, but of course wasn't upset with her at all or anything. He was just being onrey and stubborn, which wasn't too out of character at times like this he supposed.

Mari rolled her eyes, picking the bowl up and putting it on his lap, sort of waving the spoon in his face. "Nu-uh, you don't" she mused. She didn't know what it had in it really... just a shit tonne of stuff that had been blended up into something that wasn't a choaking hazard and would make the malnourished patients put a bit of condition back on them. Sage included for the time being. "There's lots to eat in the castle, but you've had a tough few days," she breathed softly. "It'll make you feel better. Besides, it's not... that bad," she hummed lighly, sort of looking down at the bowl of gloop. She wrinkled her nose and scooped a little bit up of it, holding it up to his face. "Now you're gonna eat yourself or I'm gonna force feed you," she teased. She'd have to make something else for tomorrow... at least for Sage. Maybe some sort of soup that was a bit more edible.

Sage sort of just scowled at the spoon she was waving in his face. Of course, when she set the bowl in his lap, he had to grab it to keep it level. He figured the only thing worse than eating the stuff was getting it all over him after he'd just gone through all that work to get washed up. He scoffed at maris comment about it not being so bad, giving her a look. "You don't even believe that," he snorted, scowling when she mentioned force feeding him. "Go ahead and try," he sort of grumbled, plopping the bowl back in her lap stubbornly.

Camery rolled her eyes after a few moments. "I know, I know, but it's sooo good for you!" she mused. She just huffed at the challenge, picking up the bowl and sort of shifting to sit on the side of the bed. Of course, she tried not to move too much to make sure she didn't hurt Sage in any way, but she very clearly wasn't leaving. "Aww, Sage don't be a babyyy," she teased, picking a little spoonful up of the slip and holding it up to him. "If you're gonna be a baby i'm gonna have to feed you like one," she chuckled, somewhat trying to get a bit of a laugh out of the rather grumpy Sage.
