Sage had moved to wrap his arms around her when she curled in, humming softly in response to her comment. "I love you too," he noted quietly, feeling the steady pull of sleep tugging at him. He just nestled his nose in her hair, settling into a comfortable position and just letting himself slowly drift off. It was nice, to just fall asleep slowly with her. Often times he was already passed out by the time she finished getting ready for bed so this was certainly nice.

Mari smiled softly at his comment. She knew he loved her - even if their life had settled down, she knew she was loved. She hoped he knew just how loved he was, too. She settled down after a little bit, though, and eventually drifted off to sleep. She slept through the night, until she heard a loud pounding on the door at about four the next morning. She groaned and poked Sage, although when he didn't wake up she went to put her dressing gown on and wandered down the stairs groggily. The pounding on the door just got worse, until she called down that she was coming. She opened the door, just to be face with a very red faced and teary Anya. Mari groaned and looked at the clock on the wall. "Do you know what time it is?" She asked, still half asleep. The woman just started crying harder, though. "My mother-" the woman paused for a moment, and Mari just nodded softly and invited her in to sit on the couch as she went to go and get some tea on, and quickly ran up to get Sage.

Sage had just settled down after a while, staying awake for a hwile just to soak in the peace that had enveloped them, though soon enough did fall asleep. He slept pretty well, until Mari woke him the next morning and he sort of peered up at her, admittedly rather confused. "Why the hell are you up," he sort of mumbled with a yawn, though when she explained what was going on, he quickly gathere his thoughts and threw on some clothes, heading downstairs to sit down next to Anya, who'd just flopped into him with a sob. He let out a sort of wish as he moved to hug her, rubbing a hand in circles on her back, throwing Mari a look. He hated to see Anya like this...and he knew it was hard for her. Losing someone you love was like nothing you could ever express. He knew that. He just hoped he'd know what to do, how to help her.

Mari wandered quickly down the stairs just behind Sage, admittedly a little bewildered as to what was going on. They'd just got a letter about the king... and now Anya was here of all places? She supposed it could make sense. She knew the woman relied on Sage, just as he'd relied on her years ago. They needed eachother, she supposed. She furrowed her brows slightly when she caught Sages look, though, and put the cup of tea down infront of the woman. She didn't know what to do, or what to say. They'd all known this was coming, one way or another. She sighed softly and went to sit on a chair across the coffee table.

Sage didn't really know what to say....or if he should just stay quiet and let Anya cry. He opted for that after a bit of time trying to decide what to do, and just held her tightly until she calmed down...whenever that would be. It was upsetting, he knew that. And he was more than happy to just hold her, help in any way he could. If that meant just sitting here with her for a few hours, that's what he'd do.

Anya just sat there for what seemed like hours, although was maybe only another thirty minutes before she started to settle down. There was so much going through her mind - as of then, the most prominent thought being that she was just so alone. Her parents were both gone. There was no one waiting for her in the castle, and she'd had to come out here for any form of comfort, from people she hadn't really spoken to in ages. She stared at the coffee table, her head on Sages shoulder as she tried to find something to say. "I'm sorry," she eventually came out with, although she didn't move at all. Mari shook her head at the woman quickly, offering a smile that she hoped to be of a comfort. "No, don't worry at all," she murmured quickly to the woman. She stood up and patted Sage on the shoulder. She didn't need to be there - she'd be of no help. She didn't know the woman. "I'm gonna head back to bed. You'll be alright?" She asked quietly.

Sage didn't mind sitting there with her, just being there in a silent support for the woman. He did hate to see her like this, and he wished he could relate a bit more. He'd lost family, but a parent might be different. He just ...didn't know. When she finally spoke up, he shook his head quickly, though Mari spoke up first. "It's alright," he murmured after her, giving his wife a quick nod. He likely wouldn't head back to bed anytime soon, and she'd know that. "Get some rest," he noted softly, pecking her cheek lightly as she bent over, before she padded back upstairs and he just hugged Anya tighter. He did suppose he was thankful Mari didn't get jealous or nervous anything would happen. He could support Anya without any drama within his family.

Anya sat quietly, rather zoned out. She didn't know what to do with herself, and probably wouldn't until... well, she didn't know. When Sage hugged her tighter, though, she had to bite her cheek to stop herself breaking down again. She looked over to him after a moment, and soon buried her nose into his shoulder. "I'm so sorry," she repreated quietly. She hated that she'd had to come out here - had to disturb them.

Sage just shook her s head again with a sigh when all she did was apologize again. "No...no I really don't mind," he murmured softly. "I'd rather you come here and seek out me than just sit alone and scared in the corner of your room," he added, sort of just rubbing his hand in a slow circle around her back, hoping he could bring her a little bit of comfort. He truly didn't mind ...he was glad she'd come to seek him out when she needed help. It was a good sign. And it meant he could actually help her. Edited at February 7, 2025 05:07 PM by NightClan

Anya just nodded softly, closing her eyes quietly after a moment. She felt awful. What was she meant to do now? Why was she here of all places? It was so odd. She didn't know where else to go. Where she could go. The doctor had pretty much turned a cold shoulder to her. He'd practically raised her mother, and he was busy grieving too. She apologised again under her breath, not sure what to do with herself. "What do I do now?" She whispered, holding her breath in an attempt not to break down.
