Emery simply sat there, wiping his tears away. She didn't want to touch him in fear that she'd hurt him, and it tore her to sit there, useless.

Noah sobbed harder, crying violently as she made no advance to comfort him. Her thumb wiping away his tears certainly wasn't enough.

Emery didn't care anymore, didn't care if he hurt when she moved in to hug him and pull him to her. She was feeling useless if she simply just sat there, and she made a move, now she hoped she didn't injure him worse.
