Happy new year!) Lance gave a small laugh "I wouldn't wanna argue with her now... when she was a kid yeah but now? He'll to the no..." he chuckled "Mary would try but me? I'm too damn old to worry about petty fights like that." He nodded raising his brows curiously "Wow really? All by yourself? That's impressive..." he admitted "Is it true you built Charlie a nursery too? And another spare bedroom?" He asked in amazement "That's impressive... why aren't you working as a carpenter or in construction if you can do all that?" He asked curiously.

Sage chuckled at Lances reluctance to argue with Max and nodded. "She can argue pretty darn well," he hummed in a sort of amused voice. He shrugged modestly when Lance told him he was impressed and then grunted. "Street eat, remember? I don't exactly have the record that makes someone want to hire me," he hummed. "And I'm not using the money we have to go to college and try to get one." He continued leafing through the mail, setting the junk aside, and went to take another sip of water when he saw Roxie's note, along with a more official looking document and he set his cup down, brows furrowing slightly. He skimmed the letter and document then cursed under his breath and glanced over at where Max was working. Well this was wonderful...he'd have to leave tomorrow morning..what kind of heads up was that?

Lance shrugged "I could call in a favor if you really wanted me to... just saying." He shrugged before he headed off to see his daughter whilst Charlie chewed on her bunny. When the 3 of them came back in Max noticed Sage's face "What's wrong hun?" She asked curiously handing Charlie off to her father and going over to him. Whilst Lance held Charlie and started playing with her Charlie's eyes changed from a bright blue to a joyous yellowish orange color leaving Lance stunned... Then the little bunny in her hands grew several inches as if she'd just wished for it her eyes turning a brighter yellow "Uh... sorry to interrupt but uh..." he said turning Charlie toward them to reveal her eyes and her toy that was obviously bigger then before "What is going on with my granddaughter!?" He yelped. Max looked up to see the toy and her daughters eyes and a small wave of panic broke over her as she frantically tried to think of an explanation "What's wrong dad?" She asked raising a brow as she looked between him and Charlie trying to manipulate her eye color back to normal before her dad got another look at her.

Sage chuckled and nodded, but gave Lance a sort of apologetic smile. "I don't think I'd be very good at working with other people, but I do appreciate the offer," he hummed. He glanced over at Max when she came in and gave her a think smile before wincing slightly as Charlie decided she wanted a bigger toy. Max was able to control her eye color quickly, thank goodness, and he cocked his head at Lance, trying his best to look a bit confused. "She looks fine to me," he told the man with a shrug, leaning into Max slightly from where she was behind him before sighing and reaching up to hand her the note. "I leave tomorrow morning," he groaned, really more irritated that it was so soon than anything.

When he turned Charlie around again he narrowed his eyes curiously at his granddaughter suspiciously. Whilst Max manipulated her eye color she read the note from Roxie "Damn really?" She groaned looking up at him "Alright... I understand..." She said softly. Lance looked at the two of them "What's going on?" He asked.

Sage huffed out a breath and stood up, patting Max on the shoulder slightly, almost in an apologetic sort of manner. He hated to leave her again, especially as suddenly as this, but he did suppose hed rather this happen than the town be attacked and no one defending it. "I'm being deployed," he called to Lance as he slipped into the bedroom and grabbed a backpack, which he started throwing clothes and things in. "Apparently, they're worried about an attack on some important building or whatever," he huffed. "Though they could have given me more of a heads up about when they want me to go stab people," he snorted, furiously throwing things into his backpack from the dresser. Maybe he was being a bit blunt, and maybe it was a bit concerning he was so fine with stabbing people, as he'd said, but right then, he was just really annoyed that he hadn't really been given any warning.

Max gave a small sigh and looked at her father who frowned "Oh..." he replied following him into the bedroom "When do you think you'll be back?" He asked as he listened to Sage before chuckling "Yeah they could have given you more of a heads up..." he agreed before giving a small sigh "I'll look after Max and Charlie when you're gone." He assured with a nod "Hopefully you're back before Charlie's first birthday." He chuckled.

Sage pursed his lips slightly and shook his head. "Hopefully soon...I'm not the guy who finds out about attacks or whatever, I'm just the one who deals with it," he sighed, taking his dagger and sheath and tossing it on the bed. He did relax slightly when lance said he'd watch his family, though, and nodded. "Last time was hard on Max," he admitted softly. Then he scowled. "Oh, I'll be here. They can't keep me away from that," he snorted. Then he reached over to scoop the weapon up once he saw Charlie coming down the hallway. The dagger, like his earring, was pretty and shiny, but was also...well...sharp. And about as large as the girl. So he definitely didn't want her to grab it and hurt anyone. It was a rather wicked looking device, he had to admit, but it got the job done well. "Hopefully this will be done in a week or so." The next few hours passed rather quickly, but he was done packing by dinner. They invited Lance to stay and eat, and Sage was fine with it, but he did know he and Max would want some time to talk before he left, too. He also texted Travis, asking if Max needed help that he and Hailey might be willing to do so while he was gone.

Lance nodded "I can imagine..." he admitted watching him pack as his granddaughter came crawling in babbling happily Lance chuckled "Alright well we will see you long before that hopefully." He assured scooping Charlie up into his arms. After dinner Max was sitting on the couch with Sage while Charlie was on the floor happily chewing on her bunny's ear "At least I'm hopefully not pregnant this time..." She chuckled "I don't think I am... I don't feel it quite literally in my gut like I did last time..." She chuckled as she rested her head on his shoulder. Travis of course was happy to help as was Hailey despite the two of them in the midst of getting ready for their newest addition to their family themselves.

Sage chuckled and nodded, wrapping his arms around the girl next to him and then sighed. "I think you'd know if you were pregnant," he hummed in a rather amused tone of voice. "Though, I think giving Charlie a brother might be nice." He was glad for the time they had, though he was worried about Max and Charlie, and really everyone else he knew and loved, too. The night went by much too quickly, and in the morning the goodbyes were painful, even if he would (hopefully) see them all soon. He leaned over to press a kiss to Max's cheek, since it was early, and whispered "stay safe" to her quietly.
