Backstory:
(Courtesy of ChatGPT and I because I'm lazy)
The boy grew up in a small, rundown apartment on the outskirts of a city, where life was a constant struggle. His mother was his world—a kind and loving woman who did her best to shield him from the harsh realities of their life. She worked long hours at a dead-end job, often coming home exhausted but still managing to smile for him. His father, on the other hand, was absent more often than not, disappearing for days or weeks at a time. When he was around, he was either drunk, angry, or indifferent, leaving the boy to fend for himself.
When the boy was twelve, his mother fell ill with a disease that drained her strength and hope. With no money for proper treatment, he watched helplessly as she deteriorated. The boy prayed, begged, and made deals with any higher power that would listen, but nothing changed. She died in a hospital bed, holding his hand, whispering that she loved him. That moment broke something inside him.
After her death, his father’s neglect turned into abuse, as if he blamed the boy for everything that had gone wrong. The boy quickly learned to rely on himself, growing distant and distrustful. School became a battleground, where he fought off bullies and teachers alike, refusing to let anyone see how much he was hurting.
The trauma of losing his mother and the cruelty of his father led him to reject any notion of a loving god. He couldn’t reconcile the idea of a benevolent deity with the pain and suffering he endured daily. His cynicism grew, and he found comfort in questioning everything, refusing to accept the easy answers people tried to offer.
Now as a young adult, he lives in a state of guarded isolation. He spends most of his time alone, avoiding others and their well-meaning but empty words. His only solace comes from the things he can control—his thoughts, his music, and his art. Though he keeps people at arm’s length, there’s a part of him that still aches for the connection he once had with his mother, even if he no longer believes in anything beyond what he can see and touch.
