Very much a WIP. ‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗ . BENJAMIN LUCAS SORINA ‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗‗ . Name meaning: Ben - "son" Lucas - "bringer of light" Sorina - "peace", "serenity", "sun" . Preffered name: Ben . Nicknames: B, Benny, Benja . Age: Twenty . Gender: Male . Appearance: Hardly any visible muscularity, mostly core strength. Dark brown eyes. Deeply tanned skin from long hours working in the sun. . Personality: Very quiet. Doesn't have any friends, but is friendly if you talk to him. He just won't start a conversation with you on his own. Ben is shy, but if there is a topic he is passionate about he will talk about it forever. Or as long as you let him. He is very obedient and respectful, and tries to keep everyone happy. He's a hard worker and will do his share, sometimes more, but demands respect in return. He is has a good head on his shoulders, and is very good at math. He loves numbers, especially having to do with money and fractions. . Family: Has two older brothers, both in college now. Parents got divorced, mother lives with her new husband in Vermont, and father is a daredevil. He goes skydiving once a week and otherwise leads hikes up mountains. . Backstory: Ben grew up in Oregon, working at a farm near his family's house. His parents got divorced when he was thirteen, and his mother moved away. Soon after that both his brothers went off to college. Ben and his father moved to Tennessee when Ben was fifteen, and when he was eighteen, his father sent him to live and learn at a boarding school a six-hour drive away from home. Ben lives with his father on the weekends and at the boarding school on weekdays. On weekends when he's at home and his father is supposed to be taking care of him, his father instead says hello to Ben, hugs him awkwardly, than announces that he has to go to work. Ben never sees his father when he's at home, and cooks and cleans himself. . More recent backstory: Ben once had a crush on a girl from boarding school named Jade, and they went out once. But Ben soon learned that all Jade cared about was kissing, makeup, and fashion. She hadn't done a day's work in her life, and had horrible grades at school. That flame died, and Ben vowed to never have a crush on a girl again, because they they weren't worth the effort and time. He's kept his vow, and now he's focusing so much on doing well in school that he is a straight A student. . Other: Ben applied to work at the ranch for the summer because though his father pays for boarding school, clothes, and food, Ben wants to get some experience in the world of business early, while he's still in college, so that he won't have nothing to start with when he graduates. He also misses the farm he used to work at in Oregon, and just loves getting his hands dirty. And some money would be nice. . |

It was a dreary day in March, a little warmer than expected, but drizzling on and off throughout the day. A dark grey truck rumbled along a gravel road, and pulled into a parking spot. A young man with jet black hair opened the door and stepped out into the cool afternoon air. He sported a plad button-up and jeans, which were tucked into green rubber boots. A baseball cap was on his head, and a phone in his back pocket. Benjamin Sorina closed the truck door and walked down a gravel path and up to an arch. He peered up and saw a sign that read: "Maple Ridge Farm". Ben continued down the path and came to a building with a sign that said "Main Office". He shrugged, walked up to the door, and knocked. Benjamin was a lot more nervous than he looked. Maple Ridge Farm was very well-known for its great products, workers, and business. His interview was going to be with the head of the ranch, who the manager had spoken very highly of. The email he had recieved that accepted his application had said that Ben was to come to the farm to be interviewed and then, if he passed, given a tour of the farm itself. Ben fiddled with his hands as he waited for the door to open, mustering his courage. |

Emma heard the truck along with the knock on the door. "C'mon in!" She called from her desk where she was inputting a new horse's registration for shows into her spreadsheet. "You Benjamin?" She asked, glancing up from her computer. She had a brown cow-print mousepad and a small cow figurine sitting beside the large computer. |

Ben gulped and pushed open the door, stepping inside the cozy room. He sat in the wooden chair in front of the woman's desk, removing his hat and putting it in his lap. "Yes, that's me." He said, nodding. She seemed friendly enough so far. And, he realized, looking at her closer, she was pretty too. Ben shook the thought from his mind. 'Remember, Benjamin, you promised not to do that,' he thought, and looked down at his hat in his hands. |

"Mhm..." She hummed, closing the tab on her computer and pulling up his resume he'd submitted. "How much have you worked with Quarter Horses?" She asked, turning to him |

Ben fiddled with his hands some more. Usually he wasn't nervous about anything. Clearly this was different. He didn't look up as he answered, scared to see her face again. "Not much, really. Mostly it was just unknown mixes and drafts, along with some ponies. But I love all horses." |

"Mhm..." She hummed once more, nodding slightly. "Well you're gonna get to know a whole lot about the gorgeous Quarter Horse while you're here. You'll be staying in the bunkhouse with our other two hands around the ranch--Jeremy and Brock. Brock can be a butthead sometimes, so just stay out of his way and don't touch his mare, Northern Blessing. He's quite possesive." She said, shaking her head with an amused smile. She stood, leading him to the bunkhouse as Jeremy rode past on a horse. "Still need that back field hayed and baled, J!" She called after him, the man calling a "Yes ma'am!" over his shoulder as he cantered away toward the barn. "That idiot can hardly stay on task so I give him a few things per day to do besides excersice our horses. Oh, yeah, I'm trusting you to break a colt we have. Good luck with him." She said, opening the bunkhouse's door |

Ben nodded politely and followed her. He stayed silent as she talked, not wanting to sound stupid or make her mad. When the woman said that he'd be breaking in a colt, Ben had to smile. He loved tricky horses, and his old manager had praised him a great deal on his breaking methods. "I love a good challenge," he commented as he followed her inside the bunkhouse. |
