Alessandro snapped the phone shut with a curt “Do it,” the call finally fucking over. Three minutes—too long, but business was business. He turned sharply, shoving the velvet drapery aside, already scanning for Sage’s dark hair and suit near the pillar where he’d left him.

The sight that hit him stopped his heart cold, then ignited it into a furnace of pure, blinding rage.

Volkov.

The Russian had Sage pinned against the pillar—hand fisted in his omega’s jacket, the other groping low and crude between his legs, body grinding forward like he had any right to touch what was Alessandro’s. Sage’s face was turned away, jaw clenched, but Alessandro saw the tension in his frame, the way he leaned back as far as the stone allowed, defiance and fear warring in every line.

Every drop of blood in Alessandro’s body turned molten.

He moved without sound, without thought—pure predator. The crowd blurred into irrelevance; the music, the laughter, the clink of glasses all vanished under the roar in his ears. Ten strides. Five. Volkov was too lost in his filthy groping to notice death coming up behind him.

Alessandro’s hand clamped around the back of Volkov’s neck like a steel vise, yanking him backward with enough force to rip the Russian off Sage and slam him face-first into the opposite pillar. The crack of skull against marble was sharp, satisfying. Volkov’s gasp of shock was cut short as Alessandro spun him again, fist driving into his gut hard enough to fold him in half, then an uppercut that snapped his head back and split his lip in a spray of red.

“You touched him,” Alessandro snarled, voice low and lethal, barely human. He grabbed Volkov by the throat, lifting him clean off his feet and slamming him against the wall, forearm crushing his windpipe. “You put your filthy fucking hands on my mate.”

Volkov clawed at his arm, choking, eyes bulging, but Alessandro only pressed harder, vision tunneling red. He could feel Sage behind him—close, breathing fast—but he didn’t look away from the man he was seconds from killing.

Neutral ground meant nothing. Rules meant nothing. The only thing that existed was the memory of Volkov’s hand between Sage’s legs, the way his omega had been forced to endure even a second of it.

“I warned you,” Alessandro hissed, face inches from Volkov’s bloodied one. “I told you what would happen if you looked at him again.”

His free hand drew the pistol from his shoulder holster in one fluid motion, pressing the cold barrel under Volkov’s chin. The click of the hammer was deafening in the sudden hush around them—guests finally noticing, backing away, whispers rising like smoke.

Alessandro didn’t care who saw. He wanted them to see.

He leaned in close, voice a deadly whisper only Volkov could hear.

“You will never touch him again. You will never look at him again. Because the next time I see your face, I will end you—slowly—and I will make sure every piece of you is found in a different fucking river.”

Only then did he glance back at Sage—eyes wild, chest heaving, searching his mate’s face for any sign of injury, any mark Volkov might have left. The rage flickered into something rawer, more desperate.

He released Volkov with a shove that sent the Russian sprawling to the marble floor, coughing and gasping. Alessandro’s soldiers were already there, hauling the bastard up by his arms, waiting for the order.

“Get him out of my sight,” Alessandro snapped at them, voice shaking with fury. “And make sure he understands the message.”

Then he turned fully to Sage, holstering the gun with trembling fingers, hands immediately cupping his omega’s face—gentle now, reverent, scanning every inch for harm.

“Amore,” he rasped, voice cracking. “Did he hurt you? Tell me—tell me exactly what he did.”

His thumbs stroked over Sage’s cheeks, grounding himself in the warmth of his skin, the fact that he was still here, still his.

“I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry I left you alone.” The words were torn out of him, raw and ragged. “We’re going home. Right now. And I swear on my life—no one will ever get that close to you again.”

He pulled Sage into his arms, crushing him against his chest, one hand tangled in his hair, the other locked around his waist like he could shield him from the entire world.

“I’ve got you,” he whispered fiercely against his temple. “I’ve got you. Always.”

Sage hadn't noticed alessandro come up behind them until he loomed over the man holding him down, yanking him off of him body with a fury sage hadn't seen before. He froze, eyes wide as he watched his mate slam the other man into the pillar beside them, legs sagging with relief.

He was here. He was safe now.

He was dimly aware of everyone else watching the scene, and didn't really appreciate at idea of everyone knowing what had happened, but they all seemed confused ....so maybe that was a good thing. At least Volkov had been discrete about it.

He'd watched confrontation with wide eyes, chest heaving, despite his wishes to control his body. To make it look like it hadn't gotten to him. But it had. Alessandro would know just how deeply the wound would hurt, too. He blinked when alessandro was there, cupping his face, pulling him out of his thoughts.

It took him a moment, but after a deep breath and a small swallow, he reached up to take one of Alessandros hand in his. "I'm alright," he noted softly. "He didn't hurt me. Just....a lot of words and a few touches," he added. He supposed he should be grateful it wasn't any worse. He'd gotten the sense that if alessandro hadn't shown up when he had, it would have happened exactly how Volkov had wanted it to.

"It's alright, love. He would have tried for me at some point whether you left or not," he added. His jaw hardened. "He was testing his luck. But he sealed his date when he touched me," he noted, voice low and dangerous, mind clearer now. "And I'm going to make sure he's here to watch his empire burn around him," he hissed. "I want him to watch it all be destroyed, with you taking control, and then I want him to rot in a dungeon far away from any fresh air or sunlight or aspect of freedom you can imagine."

His fury was back, raging white hot in his chest as he straightened, fear forgotten. His face softened slightly when alessandro said they were going home, nodding in agreement.

A small squeak escaped him when he was all but crushed in a hug, but moved to wrap his arms around his mate, taking a deep breath of his scent to calm down. Then, when he was finally released, he just moved to take hold of his arm again as they moved towards the car.

Alessandro felt the moment Sage’s hand closed around his, small but steady, and it was the only thing keeping him from turning back and finishing what he’d started. The Russian’s blood still smeared the marble pillar behind them, a dark streak that matched the fury still roaring through his veins. He didn’t care who was watching. Let them stare. Let them whisper. Let them understand that touching what belonged to Alessandro Moretti came with a death sentence.

Sage’s voice—soft, controlled, trying so hard to sound unaffected—cut through the haze of rage like cool water on burning skin. Alessandro’s jaw locked so hard he tasted blood. A few touches. He’d seen exactly where those hands had been, the way Volkov’s fingers had dug into Sage’s hip, groped between his legs like he had any right. The thought alone made his vision tunnel red again. He forced himself to breathe, forced his gaze to stay on Sage’s face—searching for any sign of pain, any bruise forming under that perfect skin.

“You’re not alright,” he said quietly, thumb stroking over Sage’s cheekbone. “And neither am I. But we’re going to be.” Sage’s next words—low, venomous, promising ruin—made something fierce and proud flare in Alessandro’s chest. His omega wasn’t crumbling. He was *burning*. The image of Volkov watching his empire collapse, chained in some lightless hole while Alessandro took everything he’d ever built… it was a beautiful, vicious picture. One Alessandro intended to paint in reality.
He leaned in, pressing his forehead to Sage’s for a single heartbeat, breathing him in—champagne, fear-sweat, and that warm, grounding scent that was pure Sage.

“You’ll have your vengeance,” he promised, voice rough. “We’ll have it together. He’ll see every brick of his little kingdom crumble. And when there’s nothing left, I’ll give him to you. You decide how long he rots.”
Then Sage was in his arms, small squeak muffled against his chest, and Alessandro held him like the world might try to rip him away again. One hand cradled the back of Sage’s head, the other locked around his waist, crushing him close until he could feel every rapid beat of his mate’s heart against his own.

When he finally eased back, Sage took his arm without hesitation, fingers curling around the crook of his elbow like he belonged there. Alessandro guided him through the parting crowd—heads turning, whispers trailing behind them like smoke. He didn’t look at anyone. His focus was singular: get Sage out, get him safe, get him home.

The private exit was only steps away. Matteo already had the car idling at the curb, rear door open. Alessandro steered Sage inside first, sliding in after him and pulling the door shut with a decisive click. The partition was already up; the world outside was gone.

Only then did he let himself exhale, ragged and unsteady. He turned to Sage, hands gentle now as they framed his face again, thumbs brushing under his eyes. “Look at me,” he murmured. “Tell me the truth. Did he leave any marks? Anywhere?” His voice cracked on the last word, the terror he’d shoved down during the confrontation rising sharp and bitter. “I need to know. I need to see.” He didn’t wait for an answer before his hands moved—careful, reverent—sliding the suit jacket off Sage’s shoulders, loosening the tie, fingers brushing the high collar that hid his claiming mark. Every inch he uncovered he checked, searching for fingerprints, redness, anything that would tell him how badly he’d failed to protect what was most precious.
When he found nothing visible, relief hit him so hard it almost hurt. “Grazie a Dio,” he breathed, pulling Sage into his lap without asking, arms wrapping around him tight enough to feel every breath.

“I’m not letting you out of my sight again tonight,” he said against Sage’s hair. “Not for a second. When we get home, I’m running you a bath. I’m going to wash every trace of him off you. Then I’m going to hold you until you stop shaking, until you forget what his hands felt like. And tomorrow…” His voice hardened. “Tomorrow we start dismantling everything he has. Piece by piece. Until he has nothing left but the memory of the night he tried to take what’s mine.”

He pressed a slow, fierce kiss to Sage’s temple. “You’re safe now, amore. And I swear on my life—no one will ever touch you again without dying for it.”

Sage had nodded once, tensely, when he promised he'd have his vengeance. Good. He'd known alessandro would be mad enough to do it, and they had the power to. The men, the guns, the minds. And now Volkov was scared. Running away, chased out by alessandro himself.

And then they were moving, through the hall, outside, and safely locked away in the car. It wasn't home, not yet, but it was close. He felt his shoulders sag - relief and exhaustion hitting him all at once. Emotions swelling in his chest and closing his throat.

When alessandro turned to him, he swallowed, trying to force the emotions down. He wouldn't cry....he wouldn't. Not here. He met Alessandros gaze, breaths moving rapidly again as he shook his head. "I....I don't know," he admitted, voice wavering slightly. "There could be bruises, I guess..." He aort of trailed off, still not entirely sure the damage that had been caused himself.

He let alessandro reach for him though, checking his body and letting himself slump against him in relief when no marks were found. Good. That made him feel better.

He didn't respond to Alessandros comments, just nodding along tiredly when he mentioned the bath. "That sounds good," he murmured after a moment. His gaze hardened slightly when he mentioned dismantling his empire. "I want it to be slow. I want it to hurt," he noted quietly, voice laced with venom.

Alessandro kept Sage cradled in his lap the entire drive, one hand splayed possessively over the omega’s lower back, the other stroking slow, grounding paths through his hair. The city lights streaked past the tinted windows, but he barely saw them. All his focus was on the man in his arms—the faint tremor he could feel in Sage’s thighs, the way his breaths came too quick, the quiet, lethal venom in his voice when he spoke of Volkov’s ruin.

I want it to be slow. I want it to hurt.

Alessandro’s chest swelled with something fierce and dark. His beautiful, unbreakable mate—shaken, yes, but already sharpening his grief into a weapon. He pressed a kiss to Sage’s temple, lingering there, breathing him in.

“It will be,” he promised, voice low and deadly calm. “Slow enough that he feels every piece of his life slip away. His money first—accounts frozen, assets seized. Then his men—offers they can’t refuse, loyalties bought or broken. His suppliers will vanish. His routes will burn. And every time he thinks he’s found a lifeline, I’ll cut it. He’ll watch it all crumble, day after day, until he’s on his knees begging for a mercy I won’t give.”

He tilted Sage’s chin up gently, forcing their eyes to meet in the dim, passing light.

“And you’ll be there for every step you want to see,” he said. “In my office when I make the calls. Beside me when we take what’s his. And when he’s finally nothing—just a broken man in a cell with no light, no hope, no name—you’ll decide if he ever sees the sun again.”

His thumb traced Sage’s lower lip, tender despite the violence in his words.

“But tonight is for you.”

The car turned onto their private drive, gates closing behind them with a soft clang. Alessandro didn’t wait for the driver—he opened the door himself, lifting Sage out and carrying him straight through the front doors, past the guards who knew better than to speak. Up the stairs, down the hall, into their bedroom suite.

He set Sage down only long enough to start the bath—hot water thundering into the deep marble tub, steam rising thick and scented with the calming oils he knew Sage liked. Then he was back, hands careful as he undressed his omega: jacket peeled away, shirt unbuttoned slowly, trousers slid down strong legs. Every inch of exposed skin was inspected under the soft light—no bruises, thank Christ, but Alessandro kissed each place Volkov had dared to touch anyway, slow and reverent, overwriting the memory with his own.

When Sage was bare, Alessandro stripped himself just as efficiently and guided him into the water, settling behind him so Sage could lean back against his chest. The heat enveloped them both, loosening muscles, quieting the adrenaline.

He reached for the cloth, soaping it before gliding it over Sage’s shoulders, down his arms, across his chest—slow, methodical, worshipful.

“No one will ever lay a hand on you again,” he murmured against the damp skin of Sage’s neck, lips brushing the claiming mark. “I’ll burn the world down first.”

His arms tightened around Sage’s waist, holding him close beneath the water.

“You were so strong tonight,” he whispered. “Standing there, defiant even when you were scared. Threatening him with that fire in your eyes. I’m proud of you, piccolo. So fucking proud.”

He let the silence settle for a long moment, just the sound of water and their breathing.

“Tell me what you need,” he said finally, voice soft but absolute. “Anything. Tonight, tomorrow, every day after. Tell me, and it’s yours.”

He pressed another kiss to the mark, then rested his chin on Sage’s shoulder, surrounding him completely.

“I’ve got you, amore. Always.”

Sage hadn't expected Alessandro to pick him up and carry him inside. Then again, that was probably to be expected, so he just let it happen after the initial squeak of surprise.

In the bathroom, he moved to wipe the makeup off his face and undo all the pins and ties in his hair while Alessandro fiddled with the water. That way he could just wash up and then get to bed. He really was exhausted by now. He did run the brush through his hair just to loosen it up a bit and make washing it easier .. he had a lot so any tangles just made shampoo harder to deal with.

He let alessandro help him undress, knowing it would make him feel better. Besides, the care did make sage feel a bit better too. At least alessandro wasn't upset he hadn't done anything.

He relaxed against him with a soft sigh, shaking his head slightly. "Should've done something more," he mumbled softly. "The hair pin was fashioned into a weapon....I could've done.... something." He didn't really have much use of his hands in the moment, and tossing the champagne glass to the side would have sparked more unwanted attention from others around them, but....he couldn't help but feel like he could have done something more.

But alessandro had understood. Was proud? He didn't understand it all, but mostly he was just relieved his mate wasn't upset with him. Didn't think any less of him because of the incident.

When he spoke up again, asking what he needed, he just chuckled softly. "Well....I do want to see what shiney things we managed to haul home with us," he noted. Seeing them up close, where he could pick them up and such was much different than seeing them on stage, so he did want to get a peek at them. "Then.... probably just bed," he admitted. "I'm rather tired," he added with a small shake of his head.

It had been a long day....in more ways than one, of course, and he was definitely ready to crash. He wanted to look at all their new toys first though. "I had a good day, ale," he murmured, shifting to peer up at him. "Despite him, I had a good time." He didn't want him to feel bad for bringing him, or showing him off, or anything like that. He wanted to go to things still, to experience his life. This shouldn't ruin it for them.
