The police officers spotted them and approached. "Evelyn. Good morning. Aren't you supposed to be at work today?" I huff a laugh at one of them looking at the vampire stood next to me. "The sergeant gave me a day off," I said cheerily, lying to their faces, looking at the vampire once more. His grip a firm and present reminder of what I was up against.

I noticed he squinted in the sunlight as it clipped the top of the row of shops. It was just enough time to swipe what I needed from one of the police officers. They nodded at me, taking in the vampire that stood next to me. "I didn't realise you had a man in your life Evelyn," They huffed, looking at him. I laughed with them. "Well, life works in mysterious ways huh, we best be off, he's taking me out on a date" A nervous lump worked into my throat as I stared between the three of them.

They looked the vampire up and down one last time before wishing us farewell. We didn't move, standing there, the awkward exchange soaking in. I let the vampire guide me back to the shadows. The prize in my possession. I let him lead the way. It wouldn't be long before I enact my plan.
